When I was in high school I was surrounded by readers and they enjoyed reading Sidney Sheldon's books. Seriously, every recess or break time one of those Sidney Sheldon readers will sit beside you or in the corner and shouting and screaming. So I always curious of his works, and I tried one of his novel and it was good. Well, I was still young that time but I never been hooked reading Sheldon books.

If I have time, I go to bookstores or online bookstores to buy some Sidney Sheldon's b More...

Wow what a book! Tami Hoag uses misdirection upon misdirection upon misdirection to confuse the shit out of you. Man, the story leads you in one direction, to one killer and then WHAM it's not him! And then there's another likely suspect and it's not him. again and again and again. I just love it. A Thin Dark Line really keeps you guessing right up until the final chapter. Again just WOW!

Deputy Annie Broussard gets entangled in the murder of Pam Bission since she is the one who More...

A THIN DARK LINE - VG
Hoag, Tami - standalone

Set in Bayou, the novel centres around a mission to nail a killer who walked free because of a technicality. On his trail, the cop whose mistake cost him the case, and his deputy, Annie Broussard, leading Nick Fourcade into an obsessive search for justice and truth, and Annie in to a dilemma where she must defend or accuse him.

I always enjoy Hoag and particularly like her books set in Bayou country. She writes great sexy More...

It's a murder mystery with a psycho-analyst protagonist. Freudian psycho-analysis has been largely discredited in the world of psychology, but even if it hadn't been, I'm sure that Sheldon has butchered a number of the concepts behind it. The book is generally trash, with silly one-dimensional characters. It does keep you guessing about who the killer is, but it's not the totally suspenseful thrill-ride that it's cover promises. I think it was Sheldon's first novel. Maybe his others are bet More...

Wow!! Is all I could say when I read the first chapter of The Naked Face. This book captures your attention in the first chapter. I picked the book up at the library mainly to get a feel for the author Sidney Sheldon. I own a few of his books and wasn't sure about reading them. After reading The Naked Face I know that I will be reading his other books too.

The Naked Face starts out with a man happy because he is going to be going home to his wife and letting her know that what happ More...

I decided to re-read the Sidney Sheldon canon when some friends and I chanced upon a second hand bookstore I used to patronize in high school. Look, I'm not much for the general fiction genre these days. But then, I thought Sheldon was a maestro - he taught me everything I needed to know about world geography, history, politics, gastronomy, and sex. He was the Hitchcock of wordsmithing cliffhangers - without special effects or red herrings, he wrote compelling fiction so thrilling I had to hold More...

Thought-provoking...

I wish that I had read this book during my High School days. If I only had, then I would have used my lunch money to buy more Sidney Sheldon books.

The reason why I did not read the book is because back then, I thought that “Sidney Sheldon” was a female author. Man, I hate female authors when I was a teenager. I thought they were just good for fairy tales and chic novels! But of course, this has already changed. As I grew, I was able to let go of my ind More...

As a novelist, I strive for the talent Tami Hoag displays in this book. She tells the story so skill-fully that you cannot put the book down from beginning to end. The characters are complex and multi-dimentional, and I loved both of them for their strengths and their weaknesses. The ending is carried through to fulfilment, and I just love this book. It is my favourite. Tami Hoag is my favourite author. She is wonderful.

This is such a page turner and I just simply cannot put down this book. This book is brilliantly crafted by Sidney Sheldon and no doubt that he is one of the master of story telling. The naked Face is a fast pace psychological action thriller with the twists here and there. The story begins when two police detectives, McGreavy and Angeli came over to Dr. Stevens' clinic to investigate the murder of one of his patients. He was interrogated as if he is the murder and this made Dr. Stevens a bit te More...

Judd Stevens is a psychoanalyst who is faced with the most critical case of his life. Two people closely involved with him have been killed; a patient and his secretary. If he doesn't penetrate the mind of a murderer he will find himself being arrested for murder or being murdered himself.

This is one of the weakest and most predictable books written by Sidney Sheldon. I guess it was an okay read, but not very excited and certainly not gripping. It's an ordinary mystery book, nothing sp More...

The only thing that lets down this easy read paperback is the age - but even that isn't a problem if you consider as a novel of the time and treat it accordingly. There are turns of phrase or attitudes alien to the modern reader but these work for more enjoyment, if you are reading it as a social history, too.

Sheldon crafted a plot that is a little slow to start but once in full flow, develops into a real page turner. We are taken on a rollercoaster ride of suspicion identifying suspect after su More...

Other reviewers will give you the plot line, but needless to say it has a few twists and turns. It is gruesome in parts and I shuddered quite a lot when reading some of the details.

I thought this was a very well written book. I liked the relationship between Annie Broussard and Nick Fourcade because it developed over time and both were troubled in their own way. I'd love to see more of them. Yes, I felt sorry for AJ, but sometimes that happens in life. The nice guy doesn't always ge More...

This was one of Sidney Sheldon's first novels (if not THE first). It came out in 1971, and it has not aged well at all. Psychoanalyst Judd Stephens finds himself in the middle of a murder mystery and as the web tightens around him, he struggles to use his knowledge of human behavior in order to out-think the killer or killers.

However, the out-moded, idiotic beliefs regarding sexuality and the uber-70s dialogue "let's rap," "he was groovy," just makes the whole More...

Thrilling complex plot marred by ugliness, brutality, & hate...

This was our first crime thriller by Tami Hoag, but we can see why she is a successful author with over a dozen novels and a loyal fan base to her credit. Assuming "Thin Dark Line", set in Cajun Louisiana, is representative of her work, she crafts a complex, intriguing story that manages to hold one's interest until a suspenseful, twisty climax! In this tale, cops and potential perpetrators exchange roles so oft More...

Ahhh, just as I remembered! "A Thin Dark Line" claims to be the fourth (and last) part of the Doucet series, Tami Hoag's little Cajun-country romp into the swamps and streams of the bayou in south Louisiana. Hoag goes so far as to provide a nice Cajun dictionary in the back of the book with the phrases and meanings of what her characters are saying. (I wish a pronunciation guide was included, but I have imagination enough to help me out.)

I think "A Thin Dark Line" More...

Wow, talk about a 'chilling' novel!! Justice, revenge and your own presumptions of guilt and innocence make this novel a masterpiece.

From back cover:

"Terror stalks the streets of Bayou Breaux, Louisianna. A suspected murderer is free on a technicality, and the cop accused of planting evidence against him is ordered off the case. But Detective Nick Fourcade refuses to walk away. He's stepped over the line before. This case threatens to push him over the edge.

I had read all the sidney sheldon novels years ago. Somehow a book or two of his slipped by. So i picked them up with the same nail biting enthusiasm and curiosity as i had felt then. But to my horror, i could barely manage to let my fingers turn over to the next page. The Naked Face is an immense disappointment for all sidney sheldon lovers. It just does not manage to enthuse the slightest inquisitiveness for the alleged suspense he tried to built around this hideous plot.

Mungkin kalo kamu belum baca buku-buku Sheldon yang laen The Naked Face bakal kerasa menegangkan atau apa. Tapi aku udah baca beberapa karya Sheldon sebelum baca ini, dan The Naked Face jadi gampang ditebak akhirnya. I mean, come on... Aren't Sidney Sheldon books supposed to be thrilling and unpredictable?? Mungkin setelah terbiasa dengan karya-karya Sidney Sheldon, kamu bakal bisa dengan gampang nebak jalan ceritanya. Supposed to be unpredictable or not. ('-_-)a

My step mother recommended this to me once she'd finished reading it and told me there was 'a good twist' in it. I won't disagree with her, this was an excellent book. Despite being slightly predictable at some points, there is definitely an unexpected twist to it.
Overall, I gave this a four, because of the twist and the fact that it was a book I was unable to put down.

I was impressed with this book. The main character Judd is likeable, and the ending has a twist that actually works.

Sheldon has outdone himself this time. This is one of the most entertaining crime novels I've ever read. It moves along at a good pace but is not rushed.

McGreavy is a tough character who almost turns out to be a hero at the end.

I received this book as a gift and it's not my usual fare to say the least, but I thought, what the hell, I'll see what it's like.

This book most reminded me of the standard Hollywood-flavor-of-the-week-lowest-common-denominator thriller. You know the type I'm sure. Those movies that people watch just for the sake of something to watch when they don't feel like watching a romantic comedy starring Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock.

That's about the kindest thing I can think of More...

This is my first Sidney Sheldon novel. This book ,once started, can not be put down. It leaves the readers with curiosity and excitement to know what happens next and how the mystery will be solved. But at the end, I didn't find the plot very interesting or amazing. The plot was very simple and nothing special. 2 stars from me !

Though Sheldon manages to retain the suspense for a good part of the book (however, you get to the bottom of it before the hero does!), the climax is a big let down - makes you feel like watching one of those awful 1950s movies - with several yards of yarn to tie the story together.

Sidney Sheldon wrote a thriller via this novel. I was hooked that i finished 3/4 with just half a day. It was entertaining but below my expectations. The ending was more disappointing.

This is so far, from the books I read authored by Sheldon, his lowest point. I was not fascinated by the twists and turns as well as the use of psychonanalysis to uncover the greatest mystery. It was a bit mediocre but nonetheless not bad to read.
