I loved the style of Karen Hawkins writing. I laughed out loud at multiple points in the book because the characters had an excellent sense of humor! Basically, the story begins with "Black Jack" being dragged to a marriage alter...unconscious! Brilliant and hilarious. The female lead, Fiona, has made up her mind that the only way to stop the feud between her family and Jack's family (and prevent more deaths. My first Karen Hawkins read and I am so glad!! Loved the book. From the moment I started reading until, almost the end, it was perfect. I absolutely loved the adjustment after their marriage, their quarrel, their fight to gain control. Fiona, (I wonder, why she had to have this name. I did not read the books in order and you really do not need to in order to follow the story, but it is helpful in the later books because they do reference characters.
This book had humor and was a fun light read. Black Jack Kincaid and Fiona MacLean are the main characters. Though Jack is a scoundrel and a bit naughty, he is a very likable scoundrel. Fiona is witty, smart and independent. They are charming together and they have instant chemistry.

The cover of this book was a bit misleading. The title is How to Abduct a Highland Lord but the gentleman in question was quite English for all intents and purposes. The book took place in London, not the Highlands and while the cover shows the heroine sporting a kilt/dress, she was very English herself. paranormalnya hanya kutukan yg melekat dg keluarga maclean, dmana mereka semua bisa mempengaruhi cuaca, jika mood mereka lg jelek. kebayang dg pasangan mereka masing2, jangan ampe bwt maclean marah. hujan di tempat, pdhl cuaca lg cerah bakal kejadian tuh.

2.5 stars. Jack Kincaid is a scoundrel who gets kidnapped and literally dragged to the alter dead drunk to wed Fiona McLean. The two come from feuding families and Fiona reckons a marriage between the families would bring about peace especially since her youngest brother was murdered by Jack's step brother. This book is even better the second time. I read this book years ago and after reading another book in the series decided to read it again. It is full of laughter. Especially if you can imagine having 4 huge Scottish brothers to protect you. I love how they can control the weather and when she is mad it rains and smells like lilac's. How to abduct a Highlander was an entertaining read. It was also a really quick read, so quick I read it in just a few hours. I thought the idea of a bride taking control of her family was great. I always like to read about strong women. I also like reading books where family is key, and I liked how Fiona's brothers where there for her (not always in the best way but they tried) and wanted to make sure she was happy. So far I've only read 6 chapters. That usually isn't a good sign that I'm enjoying a book. If a book is really, really good, I can't stop reading until I'm done but this book is not that. It's slow pace, I don't see the chemistry between the two main characters, the title implies that the whole story revolves around it but it only covers the first chapter or so. I think I read this in the past. The characters, plot, and dialogue felt vaguely familiar. But alas, most Romances are forgettable and I was not an avid GoodReads user prior to mid-2011. This was a super quick read, only 190 pages in the ebook. More of 2.5 stars but I'll bump it up to 3 because it didn't really irritate me too much. The heroine Fiona is headstrong (which I liked) but she does get kinda whiny at times. And her reasoning was all over the place! But the romance was still cute enoug...more

I can't help but compare every stolen husband/bride book to Julie Garwoods classic and well loved The Bride.
HTAAHL was just okay the plot was very weak and the chemistry between the h/h was all physical and never enough emotion. The characters just didn't have any depth. They could have been great but just weren't.
I'm still wondering about the back story when they originally met and fell in love it was just really glazed over. I wanted to love them and know more about each but unfortunately not...more

I'm really uncomfortable with the name Fiona just because I have an ogre in my head. Anyway, I fell in love with another Jack! Goodness, this book is very witty. You'll love the sharp retorts they exchange. Fiona is one challenging Scot. You'll also love her brothers!
