A very comprehensive commentary of the Song by a very conservative hand, with much critical methodological sensitivity. While I admire the author's attempt to harmonize the contemporary critical study of the Song with the pre-critical interpretations (I seek to do the same thing), I don't think his attempt is very successful. I get the impression that many conservative conclusions (such as the insistence of Solomonic authorship) are based on superimposed interpretation of critical data. I can't ...more
