Iris Sellin, a brilliant composer and pianist discovers she has multiple sclerosis. Driven by her art and with no time in her life for the uncertainty of love, she contacts an expert in artificial reproduction and becomes the mother of the world’s first viable human clone, Siri Sellin. Siri tells the story of how her Iris raised her as both daughter, twin sister, and extension of her self—a way to have her artistic skills live on after her own death.

More an extended philosophical essay than a gr

This being said: I had to read it for school.
I'm not that much into science fiction or cloning but I liked the musical aspects since I am a piano player myself.
What really confused me were the discrepancies. First Siri talks about Iris in one way, then in the other way, disagreeing with herself without seeming to realize it. Luckily we'll be talking about this aspect in school in detail.
Or maybe the problem is that I more or less rushed through the book since I was a bit behind schedule with

Iris Sellin, a successful pianist and composer, after discovering she has multiple sclerosis, lets herself be cloned to make sure her talent lives on, but Siri, the clone, has other ideas for herself.

Now, being a piano player myself, I liked the musical aspects, but that's about it. From all the characters, the only one with some depth is Siri herself, and that being her contradictory and repetitive soliloquies, which stand in for live commentary during the whole book. Which is fortunately only

This was by far the worst most unenjoyable book I've ever read! The plot is just weird and as far as I remember this book was written rather poorly.. I have to say some years have passed since I read this but I just remember it being painfully boring to read. This is definetly nothing school should make their students read (which was the reason I read it in the first place). The Topic is really interesting. It's about ethnical issues of cloning and what problems one could face if you clone yours ...more

THebook is all about cloning. Iris and Siri (Iris read backwards) are mother and daughter and also twins at the same time.
(i ofc, didn't read it in German language, i read it it Slovene language)

Recommends it for: Everybody

I remember that I had to read this book for school. I was about 16 years old. I wasn't really open minded about it; a German book with a boring title I didn't understand, how stupid could it be?
Well, I loved it. I cried about it. Damn, it was so good.
I'm going to read this book again as soon as holidays start. Can't wait!

This was a really interesting book on a touchy subject, with a quite different style of writing that I had to get used to first. The author switches from reality to past and main character to the other main character all the time, but after a while it's simple to recognize. I really like it.

Finally trying to slog through this thing. Yes, yes, I know, it's brief. German aside, I think it's a bit tedious. Still, I'm finding a fairly easy read (finally) so odds are good that I'll get to the end of it.

Ugh, that was ... awful at some points, but at the beginning still interesting and readable. I have to say that I had to read it for school, but I never finished the last 50 fifty pages ._.'

An interesting book by a German author about a girl who is a clone, and her search for identity and rights. It reminds me of Jodi Picoult's My Sister's Keeper.

Was advised to start reading Teenager's novels after completing my German courses. 4 stars for making me feel I can read anything in German!
