The third and final installment of the core Elyon trilogy offers a very satisfying continuation to the series. Perhaps the best yet, book 3 reveals many mystical truths about the Land of Elyon. Alexa's destiny begins to unfold as she fights to rid the world of Abaddon, the source of all evil. She isn't alone is this pursuit, although. With the help of of her friends aboard the ship, Warwick Beacon, the forces of good may triumph.

Another book in The Land Of Elyon series is here, and it's The Tenth City. Alexa yet again finds herself in the tangled wen of Abbadon. Her friend Yipes has been kidnapped by Victor Grindall, the man Abbadon controls. Alexa is stuck on the Warwick Beacon with Warvold, Roland, Oddessa the wolf, Armon the giant, and Murphy the squirrel. They travel through tunnels, climb hills, search through forests, and ride down the River Roland to find Yipes. They try to wipe out the last of the ogres and Gri...more
This book is a lot of fun to read, due particularly to its quick pace and wealth of character variety. The problem, however, is that despite the entertaining diversity of people and animals helping Alexa solve the mystery of Elyon, there is very little strong character development. Feelings are mended too easily and past relationships - especially that of Alexa and her former enemy, Pervis Kotcher - are ignored entirely, as though nothing ever really occurred between the characters. The second p...more

Intro: This book gets a 2.5 star rating. I really didn't like it as much as the previous books.
Cons: The plot was really slow and I only managed a few pages of reading in one sitting (usually I devour books I'm interested in). I felt like the story dragged on in a lot of places where it could have been edited out.
The writing seemed forced, especially when it was describing how a character felt. The author would outright state how a certain character felt ('he was frightened', 'she was scared')...more

Alexa’s journey continues right where it left off, on the Warwick Beacon, with a voice on the wind leading her. While the journey is uncertain, and at times seems dangerous, still she does what she must.
When the original plan to return to Lathbury has to be abandoned, it saddens the crew, but they oblige. When they receive directions that seem for sure to be heading them straight towards danger, they comply. Though Alexa begins to fear they’ll never be able to save their dear friend Yipes, she d...more

Okay, so I still don't like this series. I don't enjoy Mr. Carman's writing style. If he says "in ways I could never begin to imagine" again, I'm going to do something I'll regret later. I don't feel any loyalty or attachment to any of the characters or any desire to see the good guys or bad guys win. I will say this one thing though, by the end of this book, some of the inexplicable/unexplained things that have happen up to that point begin to take shape and make sense. I think that if the stor...more
I think part of the reason I couldn't finish this was that the woman reading it was so intent on making distinct voices for all her characters that she ended up sounding like an amateur actor reading her lines in a bunch of really stupid voices. The job of the reader is to present the material, not distract from it. The other reason I couldn't finish it, is after the first CD I still didn't care about the characters or what they were doing. Sorry Patrick, you started out with a bang (book one) b...more
This little book series is written for kids, ages 9-12, so it's not exactly a complicated or difficult read. If you're looking for something that will get your mind moving...keep looking, buddy. I thought this was the best of the series so far; definitely more going on in this book than in the first two. The religious undertones aren't hidden at all. The series is about a place called the Land of Elyon. Elyon is the creator of the land and the people. There is a devil figure trying to bring the...more

Do you you like adventures? If you do, then you should read the fiction book The Tenth City. It is about a young girl named Alexa and her animal and human friends. Together they work as a team to protect each other while they are trying to save their other friend, Yipes.

2009 #31: I really liked The Land of Elyon series, but I think I liked the prequel, Into The Mist, better than this series. Maybe it was because in The Land of Elyon series there were all these loose ends that tied up very nicely. Sometimes I don't like it when a storyline is too neat and contrived. But, all and all, it was a good read for a young, fantasy type of book.
Alexa's adventures take a turn for the worst! In the third book, she and her rag tag crew fight the evils of Victor Grindall against time to save each other and The Land of Elyon.
A secret about Alexa is reveled in the end pages of this quick read, a secret she always suspected to be so.
One more book remains of Alexa's adventures and I can't wait to begin! Carman once again delivered a beautifully written book with The Tenth City and I'm sure Stargazer will be just as wonderful! (after I read Int...more

I actually finished this a while back. Just been too busy to review it yet, and since it's been a while this will probably be a short one. I want to say that my favorite thing about this series is how simply yet complicated it is. Does that make any sense? You see the story seems simple, like any other children's adventure story, but it carries so much more meaning than that. The problems that the characters in this books series are facing are real problems that real people face. And I think it'...more
Book 3 of a good fantasy series for girls about 4th grade and up, full of non-stop action. I do think this book in particular needs to be read after the first two for the reader to get a good understanding of what's going on. Alexa pursues and fights the evil beings trying to overtake her society. This book relies a lot on Christian imagery, something not so obvious in the previous books.
Alexa, Armon the giant, Murphy the Squirrel and Odessa the wolf set off to find the mythical Tenth City, as well as rescue Yipes, who has been captured by the ruthless Grindall and is being held for ransom. In return, Grindall demands the last Jocasta, so he can gain the final key to wreak havoc upon the Land of Elyon.
Can Alexa and her crew manage to save Yipes's life, reach the Tenth City, defeat Grindall and manage to get back home?

I am not sure if it's because I want to see it or if the connection really is there but I really see God in this series. God in the form of Elyon and Satan in the form of Abaddon. There is a definite good/evil to this series and it's really well written for a children's series. Every character is relatable to and this book had a good twist in the end that even I didn't see coming, though I should have. Would recommend to any readers of the Chronicles of Narnia series.
it's been a while since we listened to the first two and I've forgotten some of the details, but we really like the reader of these books.
This book has some great imagery. Sometimes the spiritual imagery is a little too blatant. I like the kind that has to be teased out of the story more. Still, like I said above, we enjoy this reader and plan to finish out this series soon.

I liked this one more than the second, as so much of the mystery of the walls and Elyon himself were finally made clear. I was wrong in my predictions of what was going to happen and how the story was going to turn out. Now I understand why this book is sold in Christian Book stores. It is very much a story of faith and trust in an unseen being who is the creator & guide.

Anna loves these books, and from her point of view I can see the draw. I just listen to them when I need to run on the treadmill and I'm desperate for an audio book. I would recommend them for 8-10 year olds, but without the classic draw that makes it as fun for adults.

An amazing sequel to Beyond the Valley of Thorns. Its so full of excitement and suspense it will keep your heart pumping. In fact, the series is so good that, if youve finished the second one, your probaly reading this one or have read it.

Book 3 Land of Elyon Series.
The series is growing stale. The adventure doesn't seem as exciting or amazing. Every scrape Alexa gets into, someone comes out of nowhere and rescues her. It seems a bit of a stretch in many cases. The end presented an unexpected twist, and it was covered so fast that it felt rushed.
This should end the series, but there are 2 #4 books - one of the boyhood of the Warvold brothers (which is a back history) and the other picks up where #3 The Tenth City leaves off with...more

i liked this book. i would definetly read it again. there was some parts i did not like though. the ending was really dumb. at the end they had the characters wondering what will happen in the next book. also the ending of this book just abruptly stopped it did not gradually stop. if they left those parts out it would have been even better, but i still liked it. it also had many descriptive words and just made the whole story very easy and clear to understand. it was a really good book.

This book wasn't my favorite in the series, even though it takes place on a ship. I don't think the adventure captivated me like the other one's did. The ship wasn't brought to life like I wanted it to be. But it was still good.
