The government of Egypt banned Inside Egypt in 2008—the first time a book on Egyptian politics had been banned in the country in decades—and quickly rescinded it after the media firestorm that followed. The book depicts the country before the collapse, and then explores recent events in Egypt and the realization of the predicted revolution. Through interviews with ordinary...more

A book that predicted the eruption of the 25 Jan Revolution in Egypt a couple of years to come after its publication.

The reasons of the author's prediction are very well founded, and presented the underneath causes.

The problem is that the media has been focusing on some precise cases, such as the illegal murder of Khaled Saeid by the Egyptian police, as a direct cause of the Revolution.

Bradley, however, drives you to the general mood in Egypt that truly paved the way out for the Revolution, in a...more

I heard an interview with the author (John R. Bradley) right after the Egyptian uprising/revolution began and found his book at the library. Bradley's credentials as a middle eastern reporter and writer are pretty exceptional. This book is very easy to read-and put a lot of "meat on the bones" of what led up to the current unfolding of social revolution in Egypt. The book was researched and written during 2006-2008 and is based on interviews and the author's experiences with people at all levels...more

This book was written a few years before the 2010 uprising. The author predicts it, and explains how and why it was likely, as well as the dangers of any revolution being taken over by the Muslim brotherhood or, more likely in fact, the military elite. that tyurns out to be what has happened. I read this book shortly after the uprising and posted a Facebook "Congratulations!" to my cousin's Egyptian husband, Ahmed, living in the Emirates. He replied, "Free at last! Free at last!"

A must reading for all: Arabs( muslims, non-muslims,) , Americans, Eureopeans in particular.

It is quite revealing of the downward spiraling disaster that is taking place in a land that is magnificiant but being robbed of everything. I do agree that shortly we will witness an implosion. The world powers have a moral obligation not to allowed it to happen ASAP. Its ramifications will spill over in all directions.

After "Saudi Arabia Exposed" I was excited for the follow-up. After living in Egypt for four months, I find Bradley is less spot on. Namely, his final conclusions about the threat of violent Islamic revolution in Egypt are less than convincing to me after living there. Bradley does have a gift for the devastating one-liner and his book should be required reading for anyone planning on living in Egypt.

Actually this book is very good, the writer shows a great knowledge about Egypt and its political situation before the revolution. But this is not intended to be a book for Egyptians -and I'm one of them-; as they most probably know nearly all the info/stories if they have read current periodicals then. Finally, Bradley clearly predicts the uprising of Egyptians, although if you are following Egypt's news now you would not say anything except: EGYPT IS UNPREDICTABLE.

If, whoever reads this review...more

At times a bit shrill, but generally a very revealing look at one of our most favored authoritarian regimes.

this book has alot of publicity how it tells it all, but till now al I smell is FAKE!
the problem is he has his point of view and he insists on putting it in your mind by anymeans i.e he forces it to you, the history i read before is entirely different but at least the author tells the facts without constantly insulting and fuking in every part of the book, so till now (the third of the book), he is completely biased to his opinion not telling what he knows he drags you to his ideas by force, and...more

A hard look at Egypt. The tone is so negative that it seems a bit overdone at times. I have visited Egypt only once and can't pretend to know the country or its people well, but I felt more hopeful for the country than the author.

Good read for anybody trying to get up to speed with what's happening there. Analysis less than stellar though.
