I realized as I started reading this that I have read it before (maybe not in its entirety but I know I started it). It must have been a better time for me this time around as I enjoyed going through it and many of the things that he writes about seemed to resonate more than they did previously. It could be because I was in the middle of taking a bit of a break from my usual strength training and card routine and doing a 4-week yoga rotation while I was reading this book or it could be that I wa...more
Wonderful! I have been a fan of Baron's teaching for a while (and I'm training with him in a couple of months! Yippee!), mostly because I completely agree with his approach to and philosophy towards yoga. Trust your intuition - it is ALWAYS right.
Having practiced for so long (13+ years), I've found it hard to drag myself to read more yoga books in the last few years since I've been teaching, because a lot of them seem redundant and not especially eye-opening. I have read just about a...more

This is really an excellent book. Its amazing how much down to earth practical wisdom he offers about health, about the body, about meditation, about diet. Of course, I always read materials like this from the lens of my faith. Baptiste does not present his yoga method as inseparable from its eastern traditions which some clearly do. Rather, he presents the principles as tools to use in the work of focusing body and mind. In that respect, I find it quite interesting how much overlap there i...more
A well-written book on what yoga can do for both body and mind. It includes directions & photos on how to perform asanas(postures), has a section on meditation, and has a great explanation of the guiding priciples of a yogi diet. Baron Baptiste has 2 studios in Massachusetts. My favorite yoga teacher was a pupil of his. His book is about using yoga to achieve a healthy lifestyle. Great read if you are into yoga and/or looking for a healthy diet.
The seriously cheesy cover doesn't do the book justice. I hate the cover but loved the book. He has a great perspective of what it is to be a yogi in American. Rather than trying to change the American, he seeks to facilitate a deepening understanding of what yoga is to an western mind. Good stuff.
I will stay zen and say very little about the ego of the author, his yoga empire, or my strange affinity for exercise in 90F heat. I did find it dubious and somewhat humorous that this book was actually a "gift to the cambridge public library on behalf of the baptiste power yoga institute" according to its nameplate sticker. A little self-promotion goes a long way, I suppose. Anyway, the book offers a solid hollywood-based story for why you should believe baron and try his yoga styl...more
I like Baron Baptiste a lot.
The book verged on the preachy though.
But it's a heck of a lot cheaper than one of his yoga bootcamps.

My favorite of the two. He had a great line about keeping up with the Jones'. I can't say that I've done the practice but I love the book
I really liked Baron Baptiste's narrative and approach to Yoga. It is simple and easy for the beginner to apply.
Awesome! Baron is an inspiration! A must-read for anyone who practices yoga or wants to start!
Superbly written so even the beginner yogi could work from this! Covers all areas.
The book would be better if Baron was not so full of himself.

Poorly written!
required reading for a recent yoga workshop but great book if you are into this type of yoga. helped me figure out the nuances of several challenging poses
I never really finished this one... but what I read was very good. I just had too many books out from the library and had to return it. It's amusing that he had famous Gurus from the world over visiting his home during his youth and rebelled against his Yogic up bringing.
It's always hard to do yoga from a book but the description and photos of the poses are excellent. The book is a great supplement to his power yoga dvds and over the years of owning the book I've gone back to it often as a reference for different poses.
A good introduction to Power/Vinyasa Yoga. This was a text in my teacher training course, and I found it a very informative reference. I like Baron's writing style, and although I think he's a bit narcissistic, it didn't come across in this book.
I'm about halfway in-- I've learned so much more about yoga through this book. If you aren't interested in the spiritual mental or aspects of yoga (and why wouldn't you be?), read it for the descriptions of the asanas alone. SO helpful.
Even the master has to drag himself to the mat somedays - resistance to good change is normal.
The prize is the process. Yoga helps with all aspects of our lives.

looks intimidating, but a suprisingly balanced yoga practice, some of the lifestyle chapters are worth reading. great detailed reviews of many basic asanas.
This is a great book to learn and understand the practice of yoga. Once you read this book, you'll find it easy to practice on your own at home.
There is such a wisdom in this book...very practical and very therapeutic approach to practicing yoga- passionately written
Even though this is a yoga book detailing poses, I really enjoyed reading about his philosophy about and relationship with food.
I don't really like the whole 40 days to whatever idea... however, there is some good information in this book.
