I got so crazy about this series that I not only ordered vol. 3 (this one) from Germany to find out how it ended, I even ordered the audio book and put it on my iPod so I could obsess about it repeatedly.

The German title for the second book in this series is TINTENBLUT or INKBLOOD. Why it became INKSPELL in the US is a mystery (my guess is it was a marketing decision --- spell is a lot less scary than blood). Having now read the final book in the series, I see why that original title was so apt and think it was very unfortunate that it was changed.
But back to this book. It is dense, dark, and rich with ideas. I found it totally engrossing. The story picks up where the previous volume l...more

I was excited to find an ARC of this when I was out in Berkeley. It has been two years since I read the first two books in the trilogy, and even with the book summaries at the beginning and the glossary of characters at the end, it took me several chapters to get into the story. Then I got hooked because it is a great action-adventure story, with action along several different fronts and amongst the large cast of varied and interesting characters including black-hearted villains, misguided her...more

I was lucky to have the chance to read an Advance Reading Copy of Inkdeath, so it was fun to finish up Funke's trilogy a little early. While I love the inventiveness of the concept of people being sucked into a book, and special people being able to "write" or "read" passages and have them come true to influence the story, the novelty has slightly worn off, I think. The books are over 600 pages long and translated from German, so that might be one factor, though it could also...more

when this last book of the triology finally came out, i read it in jaust two days. it's as exciting as the other two, but though ther is a happy end, I don't like the way it is. still i would have liked a fourth book of this series (which certainly won't be written)

another one i am desperately waiting for... inkspell is another one of those killer cliffhangers, and I am almost falling off this cliff... I will be a very happy camper when this one comes out.

I'm so sad that this series is done! I'm going to miss the Ink world. Cornelia Funke did a masterful job of moving the story to the end. I just want everyone I know to read all three of these books. They should print them all in one volume, for a full reading experience.

Shoot! I have been asking everyone I knew who read this book if they thought that there was going to be a third book, and I was right. I know, I know, it was obvious. But still! I can't wait for this book to come out! = )

An extremely dense read at times (probably due to the often-awkward translation from German), this is still a great ending to an excellent series. One of the most original sets of books I've read in a long, long time.

I was sooooo excited to pick up an advanced copy of this book at ALA!!!
...and it was fantastic. The action keeps going right up to the end and I got my fill of my favorite characters!

A fantastic end to the trilogy with a finale that left me completely content - no loose ends and remarkably realistic for a fantasy. Inkdeath is certainly something to look forward too.

A good final book for the series (although I wouldn't mind if Funke wrote more).
While slow to get into, the story answers all the questions I had and offers a pleasing resolution.

Started my copy from the library over the weekend. And it's a good read...but kind of hard work.
You see, as book 3 in the series, picking up from book 2 (Inkspell) which ended with a lot of big ugly things in play, this one is moving in the old "it's gonna get worse before it gets better" path. I think I've caught a glimpse of the "get better is possible" light but I have about 40 chapters and 500+ pages to go. You can't speed read Ms Funke's dense but excellent writing...more
