I really like the format of the smaller stories. You get to know each of the characters intimately, knowing their background and paranormal history. Some creatures are born as such and some are created, making each an individual with original thought processes.

And just when you believe the book is about to end with yet another three stories completed, the author starts corralling them all together in the same place and time to form a team of Night Worlders who will attempt to save us all - addi...more

So far, Night World is my favorite L.J. Smith series, because it is the most cracktastic. It is full of the kinds of stuff your sixteen-year-old id comes up with and incorporates into your private vast crossover-ridden original fiction playground. (Everybody mashes up all their favorite characters and tropes into a personal fantasy playground when they're sixteen, right? Right? Guys?) It has a secret history of the world, in which there is a Night World of witches, vampires, and shapeshifters, w...more

A collection of three books set in the Night World--the home of vampires, werewolves, and witches. Their rules are strict: fall in love with a human and break all of them.

Dark Angel: Gillian is saved from drowning by her guardian angel, someone only she can see and hear. He wants to help her become the person she's always wanted to be: popular, noticeable, likable. Most importantly she wants to attract the attention of the boy she's had a crush on ever since she started noticing boys. But then A...more

I was given this book as a gift from a friend. After reading the first book I decided to see where the story was going. Again I knew when the characters were introduced they were going to end up together somehow. My favourite of the three stories in this book was Dark Angel. I like how it was mysterious in nature and how the story played out.

When I finished this book I wasn't sure if I was going to read the last one. Each story had the same theme, and while the over all plot was building I wasn...more

In Dark Angel, Gillian is the quiet girl no one ever really notices. She's lonely, and is suffering from her parents' crumbling relationship. It's while walking home from school one winter day that she falls into an icy river, and dies. On her way to heaven, she meets Angel, her handsome guardian angel, who insists that it's not her time yet, and makes her return to earth. But instead of going to back to her meek and quiet life, Gillian is transformed into the most popular girl in school--with A...more

On her birthday. Ouch... (view spoiler)[ But then she meets Quinn, fearsome vampire of the Night World and she discovers they're each others soulmate GAH! MEINE MEINUNG:

Dark Angel: I really like this plot idea. I've never read a book about an "angel" before. I liked Gary as a character, but he would have been cooler if her were more sinister and hadnt given up so easily. The characters are really cool too!
The Chosen: I love Quinn! Holy crap he is awesome. I was angry at him when he bit her, because that is her nightmare. I think it was out of character for Rashel to not care so much, but I guess the Soulmate principle changed things... I also liked how Tommy ca...more

In Dark Angel a “thing” that calls himself Angel brought Gillian Lennox back to life after a near death experience! He became her best friend and best go to guy. He Helped changed her life, by giving her what every teenage girl wants- “to be popular”! Angel also gave her advice on how to make her crush…David Blackburn, well… ahhh… crush back? Until “ Angel AKA phantom” starts making peculiar requests and people start getting hurt. In trying to rid herself from Angel, Gillian learns about her her...more

I loved the story line, it was very intense. The writing was very simple and easy to comprehend, which made the book not much of a challenge at all. This can be both a positive and a negative. On one hand, It was easy for me to dive into Smith's writing with lots of commotion going on. But, I didn't feel that I gained anything new from reading NightWorld 2. I typically like to be challenged by the books I read, but this was an easy story to blow through in a few days. It seems like a huge book (...more

As I said before, I really don't like these covers but after reading the first book in the series I just had to read this one. I mean HAD to. I was/am in love with these books. They portrayed exactly what I wanted in a book at the time. Paranormal romance, a little action, and most importantly, a storyline that actually moves *cough* unlike Twilight *cough*.

At the time they were perfect for me. And at the time I really didn't have an eye for detail. I thought 'These stories are just flawless. W...more

In "The Chosen", from volume 2 of Night World, Rashel is a 17-year-old vampire hunter bent on revenge. Wanting to avenge her mother and Timmy by killing the vampire who killed them, she learns all she can about the Night World and kills every vampire who she happens to see or that is in her area.

Being without any relatives or friends Rashel travels from foster family to foster family killing every vampire she happens to come across. Then, one night while staking out a warehouse lot looking for...more

This is a combination of my individual reviews for Night World 4: Dark Angel, Night World 5: The Chosen, and Night World 6: Soulmate.

I would give this collection a 3-3.5 out of 5. Smith continues her Night World series with Gillian and a guardian angel, Rashel the vampire-hunter with a vampire soulmate, and Hannah and Thierry, the original soulmates.

Gillian's story was okay, but not what i was expecting. I thought Angel would take David's body and she would grow to love him. Also, David seemed too okay with everything. I would totally look at someone as if they were crazy if they told me all of this. Rashel's story, on the other hand and I just have to use this word, was beast. She is now my rolemodel for her coldness and way of revenge. she is probably not the best rolemodel, what with the killing vampires her whole life, but even when she...more

Do I have to say... or is it obvious that this book is hundred...no...thousand times better than Night World No1! Contains some spoilers:-

Dark Angel: I loved Gillian...Strong and sweet Character.Gary "Angel" was mysterious and very interesting and David was hmm...ok...as usual as I always say...I love Dark Bad Characters...so Gary is my type :D Characters were good...now comes the story line...Story was absolutely amazing. This was not quite as strong as the first volume of Night World, but it had its charms. The volume contains three novels:

"Dark Angel": This was very entertaining. If the heroine had been a little more mature and spunky, it would have been even better, as she faces off against a very threatening villain.

"The Chosen": The weakest Night World tale I've read so far, this one was just dull, with a Buffy rip-off heroine and a love interest who is too much like Ash from Secret Vampire / Daughters of D...more

Since it's three book in one I'll review them separately.

Dark Angel: I immediately kind of connected with Gillian, guess that's because I saw a part of myself in her, as being the outcast. Though the Night World did not play a huge part in this book, I actually think the story was pretty good. (apart from the high school drama, I couldn't care less about). I did see it coming that ofcourse the angel was no real angel, but the reason why he wasn't, was done very good.

It does bother me that not e...more

In Night World #2 there are three parts Dark Angel, Chosen and Soul-mate and In each story a human and a creature of the night world fall in love and turn out to be soul mates and join the daybreak circle which is a circle that has both human and night people in it. In "soul-mate" all the characters from the previous stories meet and together they form the daybreak circle and all of them are wanted dead because they broke the night world laws.

The 4th part "Dark Angel" starts of with Gillian a gi...more

Dark Angel

Gillian seemed to me a very gullible person. I understand that she thinks she owes her life to "Angel" but there were way too many signs pointing to the obvious. Cutting your hair isn't that outrageous so that was okay, and even some of the things she was saying and doing to be popular seemed harmless. But what with the spells against those girls? That's where I would have drawn the line. And even though the other things seemed okay, she shoud have real...more

Dark Angel: This is one of my favorite books in the series. The plot twisted and left the reader in shock at the end. I think so many can relate to Gillian. She was basically invisible to the world until an angel came to bring out her beauty and give her an admirable personality. Through this she finds that her soul mate is her crush. She also finds herself. I was so happy at the end when Thomas was forgiven so he could forgive himself.

The Chosen: You can't help but admire Rashel for being so in...more

Same as the first one, I'm giving this three stars, though if Goodreads allowed half-star ratings, this would have been 3 and a half stars, just because I liked this compilation better than the first volume. The first book (Dark Angel) gets 2 stars because of the maudlin dialogue but the latter stories (The Chosen, Soulmate) get 3 stars each; Soulmate because of sentimental value I suppose (this was the first Night World book I read) and the characters were good looking AND more kickass than man...more

The second omnibus volume to L.J. Smith’s popular Night World Series does not disappoint. Rather, it surpassed all of my expectations and reminded me why I will, forever, read everything and anything published by Ms. Smith. This set of stories contains the usual elements of a L.J. Smith story that we have all come to know and love-the stories are intriguing, fast paced, and all around captivating; the characters are sexy, dangerous, witty, and well-rounded; and the universe is more developed and...more
