Anbefaler for alle som interesserer seg i musikk men ikke minst i nylig historie da denne har tendens å gjenta seg. Ashkenazy's bok forteller om vanlig liv i Sovjet og veien til berømmelse og udramatisk utvandring. Men bak dette er KGB intriger, infiltrering, "honey traps" for utenlandske homofile, høy politikk samtidig avslører han en vestlig holdning til USSR som er 100 % lik holdningen Europa har til dagens regime i Russland. Recommends it for: Ashkenazy fans or Soviet history enthusiasts
My only quibble with this autobiography was that Parrott, Ashkenazy's agent, seemed to do most of the talking near the end of the book. Instead of getting Ashkenazy's insight directly, Parrott gives us paragraphs of summary of the former's thoughts.

Ashkenazy's direct reflections saved this book. I especially enjoyed hearing about his childhood and his time at the Moscow Conservatory, and his words about his time as a recruit of the KGB.
