Our son David dragged us to see the movie on Saturday. Elisabeth slumbered fitfully, waking up occasionally to see if it was getting any better and generally deciding it wasn't. I thought it was interesting at an abstract level, and I found several scenes funny or sexy, but I had to admit that I couldn't really appreciate it. I also felt rather sleepy at times. David looked both superior and a little embarrassed. "Well, it's really a movie for my generation," he admitted.

Ok, when I got to B&N today I showed Mr. Greg a piece of paper with the name of this book on it… he checked on the computer and told me that they didn’t have the first volume… and I said that I don’t give a fuck is freaking manga those thingies ain’t books… so anyway he got me this, now I’ve been wanting to read this since ‘Tambito told me there was this huge fight scene with one of the chick’s super evil ex boyfriends… who happened to be a vegan! AND I FUCKING HATE VEGANS! So there was reading More...

I'm giving this 5 stars because.... well, I think I figured out how to rate comic books.

Review from a mother of a 13 year old:

Mothers across the world.... I feel it is ok to let your kids (13 and up) read Scott Pilgrim.

* There are only 2 cuss words in this book which will make your kid squeal in delight but will also make them want to read more (which is our secret maser mind plan. Let them feel like they are reading something naughty but in return they kee More...

I gave it two volumes and I've failed to get into it. The art has improved a little since the first volume, with deliberately different hair styles and more usage of upper torsos on-panel so clothing can help distinguish the characters. But that art is still conveying flat humor (he doesn't like doing push-ups - har) and an indulgently long story about a guy fighting his new girlfriend's exes. Two volumes in, I have no idea why he has to fight them. Are they going to come after him relentlessly More...

TWO WORDS:

GIRL FIGHT!

I have to calm myself first to try to at least give Scott Pilgrim vs. The World a bit decent review.

The story of Scott Pilgrim was a little bit mushy and stupid sometimes but what got me hooked to this graphic novel is the FIGHTS!. Frames and illustrations are ok. The story, more catchy and a big cliffhanger at the end.

I would not go back as far as to tell you what happend on the first book and as Scott puts it, read the book More...

4 stars. I'm still not really a fan of the art style, but it's growing on me. I found this installment funnier than the last, maybe because the humour's growing on me too. Plus, the random vegan shepherd's pie recipe halfway through had me laughing out loud.

Three stars for adding useless complexity.
One of the rules of video games design is that you introduce the player to the abilities he needs when he needs them. This books adds complexity and answers questions I haven't asked while leaving the ones I asked unanswered for building tension. Also adding more characters (which are not easy to tell apart) for the purpose of adding more depth to side characters

Scott Pilgrim, Vol. 2 / 9781932664126

I first came to the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels after being introduced to the concept by the delightful movie, "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World". Scott Pilgrim, Vol. 2 provides some much needed backstory on the characters, as well as some more in-depth characterization of the love triangle between Scott, Ramona, and Knives.

Scott Pilgrim, Vol. 2 opens with a flashback of Scott and Kim in high school and how -- as Scott remembers More...

Scott Pilgrim VS The World is not as cleanly constructed as Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life and the feature film improved upon this second volume in a number of ways - especially the fight between Scott and Todd, which is much less exciting and makes much less sense in the book.
Scott Pilgrim VS The World starts off with some unexplained backstory involving Scott, Kim, and a couple of unfamiliar characters. Unfortunately, the backstory is not really relevant to this volume and its pres More...

Fuck Ulysses.

So this second volume wasn’t quite as good as the first. The narrative seemed a little disjointed and I had some trouble following the little subplots.

I also had some difficulty telling the characters apart. Was that Knives? Kim? Ramona? Stacy? Wait, who the fuck is Sarah? I have a feeling that this is going to be an issue for me. I’m not enamored by line drawings, so I don’t pay that much attention to them. I use them as a replacement for dialogue attributi More...

Well, this is certainly a quick read. If I'd read a two hundred and thirty pages of Hellboy or Blueberry, I could have tackled four or five full story arcs by now, but with Scott Pilgrim, I feel like I'm still waiting for the story to kick in. It's very soap opera: who is dating who, who used to date who, which would be more intriguing if I were interested in the characters, but they've stayed pretty flat.

In my review of the first book, I mentioned how self-absorbed and dull all the More...

You know Scott is going to get into big trouble when he's dating two girls at once...

Scott is still dating his girlfriends, Ramona and Knives, and can't seem to choose either one. And of course, there's always Ramona's ex-boyfriends that may pop up out of nowhere to fight him... What will Scott do when Ramona and Knives meet for the first time and get into a big fight?

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, so I was excited to read the second. Overall, the seco More...

Having been stunned by the first Scott Pilgrim book I raced up the stairs at the Minneapolis Public Library in order to obtain the second one, and though I had promised myself that I would work for a little while before reading, I dove in after pulling the pulpy pages from the shelf.

I was immediately struck by how, though the style and artistry in the first book remained, the second book was very much its own. Suddenly there was a flashback and a revelation about the main character a More...

Published on my book blog.

The second installment of the Scott Pilgrim's series continues to explore his burgeoning relationship with Ramona Flowers (and, consequently, the fights with her evil ex-boyfriends) and his withering one with Knives Chau (who seems to develop an unhealthy obsession for anything Scott).

I actually enjoyed this one more. I'm not sure if it was because it's a bit more different from the movie than the first volume, or simply because the story picked up p More...

In this volume, we get to know Scott Pilgrim and his friends a little more. We see an episode from his high school days, how he started his first band, and his high school girlfriend. Then, back to the present, where Scott is enjoying his relationship with Ramona and figuring out how to break it off with Knives. He does, but she doesn't take it well. And here, we thought it was only Scott that had to deal with evil exes. Also on tap--a call from another of Scott's ex-girlfriends, wanting t More...

Here is my dilemna du jour: how will I write a review of this book without sounding like a condescending aging wanna-be hipster asshat? Maybe I should just say this series appeals to specific sensibilities and you'll either love it or be confused, possibly to the point of ire.

Anyways, Scott Pilgrim. He's a Canadian twenty-something slacker that plays in a bad indie band. He lives in a one-room basement apartment and shares a futon with a gay roommate named Wallace (fun fact: Scott i More...

Scott Pilgrim 2 is a little bit more choppy than 1, but I have to say that that aspect was what reeled me in this time. Considering I'm not sure how many books there are in this series (5 or 6?), this volume seemed like a transitional Pilgrim. (Hmmm...a great band name that never was: Transitional Pilgrim!). I was hoping for more Scott vs. Ramona's evil ex-boyfriends battles, but it was not meant to be. Slowly, O'Malley is shifting into a rare category of person for me. It revolves around m More...

And I tend to have the EXACT same problems with this book as with a reviewer, Caris and he explained it just perfectly.

A significant improvement on the story telling from the first volume. Flashbacks to high school, fights between Scott and an ex, and Ramona and one of Scott's exes. Good stuff. if you like Questionable Content, you'll probably like the Scott Pilgrim books.

I'm kinda too tired to write a proper review...

We start the second volume where we left off from the first...if Scott wants to be with Ramona, he's going to have to defeat all seven of her evil ex-boyfriends in a Super Mario must defeat Bowser to save Daisy/Peach style.

One main problem for me is that, for some reason, I don't actually like Ramona's character very much; maybe I'm jealous of the fact that she has seven evil exs willing to fight over her.

If I'm perfectly honest this should be three stars rather than four. But it's Christmas and I'm feeling generous. Plus I'm still riding off the sheer fangirliness that Volume 1 inspired in me so I'm not ready to be truly critical of Scott yet.

This storyline was mostly filler. Sure Scott dispatches another Evil Ex but that almost seemed incidental. Seems like a case of Difficult Sequel Syndrome because this didn't pop in the way that SP's Precious little life did. Perhaps it was just More...

OMG how fun are these books? So ridiculously fun. Scott is such a silly dork, such a (mostly) lovable idiot. Obvs there's a lot more characterization here than in the films; Knives' fight with Ramona is awesome, everyone's silly insults and awful comebacks are hilarious, I love love love Wallace Wells so fucking fierce. There's even a recipe for vegan shepherd's pie! Plus you can read the whole book while you're waiting for your laundry to finish, thus letting you forget that you're in a hot, cr More...

The Scott Pilgrim series continues in this volume, which I think can be confusing to those new to the series; while the movie takes its name from this book, we're still barely getting into the overall story by this point. This book has all the humor and charm of the first volume, but contains a shift in narrative style that makes it unique. If the reader can come to terms with the languid slacker motif and gimmicky video game shoutouts, they will find a fun and readable story underneath.

Let´s recap this, Scott Pilgrim is not an epic hero, lacks of any special skill (except he is the best fighter in his province), super-power or even bravery... Scott Pilgrim is not rich, let’s face it, he doesn’t have enough money to buy a bed... Scott Pilgrim is not very intelligent; in fact he is not smart at all... Scott Pilgrim is not very talented, he is a bass player in a not vary famous band in Canada, and has any other talent, he doesn’t even can draw a decent sheep.

So what´s More...

Not quite as charming as the first book, this one seems to go in circles--and never really find its way out. Another satisfyingly quick read, this book can polished off in one session, almost moreso than the first because the author allows a lot more room for imagery and artistic expression through visuals.

We learn some more about Knives (Scott's teen-age girlfriend), Kim (Scott's band-mate) and a LOT more about Scott's history, which is kind of fun. Also kind of confusing, because More...

In this second installment of the Scott Pilgrim epic, our titular hero takes on the second evil ex standing between a sweet life with his lady love, Ramona Flowers. I mean, Lucas Lee is some square-jawed, muscular, could-tear-Scott-in-two skater-turned-Hollywood-sellout, am I right? He wouldn't risk his fame and fortune at Casa Loma..... right?

I offer five complete stars for the epic showdown between Scott's recent ex, Knives Chau, and Ms. Ramona herself -- I thought I loved the Toro More...

Scott Pilgrim is finally moving on, if dating a High School student could be considered moving on for a 23 year old. Though nothing is really happening with Knives asside from riding the bus, and that's just fine by Scott. Scott goes through life wallowing in his past and not wanting to think of the future. He mooches off his gay roommate Wallace, known as the one with the money between the two of them, with all his spare time being devoted to his band, Sex Bob-omb. Then one night he dreams of a More...

Right around the time I closed the back cover on Scott Pilgrim Volume 1, I went right out and bought Volumes 3-5. I’d have bought Volume 6, but it doesn’t come out until July. I am hoping I survive that long. The withdrawal might not be pretty.

These books, at least the first two, are so fun it’s like eating ice cream in the sunshine while watching your favorite band play. Or whatever it is you think is a lot of fun to do for a couple of hours.
