Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life (Scott Pilgrim #1)
Scott Pilgrim's life is totally sweet. He's 23 years old, he's in a rock band, he's ""between jobs,"" and he's dating a cute high school girl. Nothing could possibly go wrong, unless a seriously mind-blowing, dangerously fashionable, rollerblading delivery girl named Ramona Flowers starts cruising through his dreams and sailing by him at parties. Will Scott's awesome life...more

Scott Pilgrim is so how I see the world. I’m sure it’s because of the years of doing almost nothing but playing Mario Bros in my childhood, but the levels and energy bars and coins, etc. as applied to mundane life things are so perfect to me. Also, the characters. Oh, the characters. Scott Pilgrim is such a rad character because he is so douchey, but still somewhat sympathetic, and everyone spends the whole story pointing out his doucheyness. I just really love a story that calls a douche a douc...more
I debated what to rate this graphic novel. On the one hand, the characters are thoroughly unlikable. Scott Pilgrim is a vapid, useless lump of a man who is dating a high schooler because that's the level of his maturity/emotional intelligence. Ramona Flowers is standoffish and rude because it makes her look "cool". The only redeeming character was Wallace, the gay roommate. On the other hand, once introductions got over, during the last scene of the book (the concert and Scott's fight with the f...more
Before I begin I just like to say was no doubt and hesitation that this is probably one of the best comic books ever!
Why is this book so good? Its fun, it's funny, it's clever and it leaves you wanting more. If you love relationship books you will love this book, if you love books that make you laugh you will love this book, if you love comic books in general you will love this book!

Lovely mix of Hornbyesque Lad lit, Steven Chow style comedy, and Simon & Garfunklesque post adolescent melancholy. Worked nicely as a palate cleanser after the wrist slitter that was Into The Wild.
It's funny and imaginitave without being twee, honest without being obvious, and sweetly sad without drowning in ennui. It's a precious little book. Even if like me comics aren't quite your thing.

You know how sometimes independent-$300-budget films can be funnier than big time Hollywood-explosions-authentic-costumes-and-Will-Ferrell-blockbuster? Just like MS paint can sometimes be more straightforward and hilarious than well drawn Adobe vector art (e.g. Natelie Dee, Hyperbole and a Half, various images on 4chan). Similarly, Byran Lee O'Malley's simplistic, charming style echoes those silly 80s anime where everything goes out of hand with crazy gravity-defying epicness. It's almost exactl...more
To be honest, I expected more. Or different. But it has its moments.
The drawing is OK, however the character design is very flawed: most girls look alike except for weird hairdos and sometimes characters don't look like themselves.
The narrative was better than the story, the latter bugged me sometimes. I don't know if his awesomeness is meant to be ironic, but in this first volume Scott Pilgram is an asshole. At first I thought "what's the point of dating a 17 year old if it's gonna be like that...more

"Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life" by Bryan Lee O'Malley was a very interesting read! This was my first time reading a graphic novel and I found this one to be very entertaining! It focuses on Scott Pilgrim, his relationship with a high-schooler, and his new love interest, Ramona Flowers. I thought Scott's younger girlfriend was really funny, and seeing her actions through pictures just furthered my like for her! I also enjoyed Scott's eccentric personality and the many characters who were c...more
A friend of mine recommended this to me, but I was a little dubious, because she's not really a comix reader and I was all "I dunno, fake manga hmmm". Oh I was wrong, cuz it totally rules! Ok, so it's about this boy Scott Pilgrim, a 23 year old Canadian, who plays bass in a band called Sex Bob-omb. He's dating a 17 year old, Knives Chau, but eventually meets Ramona Flower, amazon.ca delivery girl and is OBSESSED! In order to go out with Ramona, he must defeat her seven evil ex-boyfriends, in rea...more
This book has everything. Love, hate, battles, comedy, and music. That's not even half of it! If your in to comic books, or not like me, this is a really good one for you. Scott Pilgrim is really in a pickle when he sees a girl that is really hot in his view. But he is already dating a high schoolers named Knives. And he is also 22. And there's this part where his band, yeah he's in a band and how awesome is that, is in the ATBB (Annual Toronto Battle of the Bands) or something like that. Anyway...more

"Atentos al nombre de este peculiar personaje, retenedlo en la memoria porque, pronto sobra un espacio (muy pronto) todo el mundo hablará de él. El motivo es el de casi siempre:La adaptación cinematográfica de este cómic indie hecho por un tipo canadiense (al que hasta hace poco nadie conocía) inundará todas las salas de cine del planeta y se convertirá, casi seguro, en todo un bombazo. Once again, my good friend kept insisting (in spite of my reluctance) that I would love this, and sure enough, I do. I began reading it on a whim, then polished it off in one sitting.
Scott is a pretty typical early 20's "cool kid"--his fellow band members give him flak for his high-school girlfriend, he has a really hip gay roommate, and he hangs out a lot. One day, he notices a new girl flitting in and out of his life, and as he pursues her, his world starts to change.

Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life by Bryan Lee O'Malley chronicles the life of Scott Pilgrim, a 23-year-old Canadian bassist in a local band, "Sex Bob-Omb" as he navigates his way through love life. First pegged as a creeper for dating a 17-year-old Chinese student named Knives Chau, Scott Pilgrim begins having dreams about a hardcore, roller-skating beauty. When he finds out she's real, and she for some reasons returns his feelings, Scott must battle Ramona Flowers' seven evil ex-boyfriends...more
Catherine's Response:
While not a very deep, meaningful read on its surface, I enjoyed this first volume in the Scott Pilgrim series. Having never really read many graphic novels before, I had very few expectations coming into this reading. I appreciated the introduction into Manga-style comics (never having read an actual Manga). I loved the wit of the characters, often finding myself laughing out loud at their quips. While a very quick read, I think several of the themes in the graphic novel w...more

First of all, I didn't know this was book until I did some research on the movie (which is one of my favourites). The movie was not a huge thing that just blew through the airways but the translation was great! I know it's a comic an all but I'm so glad they didn't change anything.
The comic entirely is hilarious...I can't stress how well drawn and done the characters are. Even the artwork in the background is well thought and not rushed. I mostly read manga and not graphic novels but I in my per...more

I have a long history with Scott Pilgrim, which is mostly the polar opposite of my history with AKIRA where I love the movie so much that I'm timid to try the manga it's based on for fear it will ruin the masterpiece of animation that defined my adolescence.
Scott Pilgrim however, I had to see it in the theatre with my mother since nobody else would take me. That alone should spell out why I reacted so hostile to this pop cultural event at first. I didn't get it because I'd never been in a relati...more

Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life
Book Review
The Scott Pilgrim series has been quite popular in recent years. Upon this popularity, I opened up the first volume of the Scott Pilgrim series –Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life. I came to know soon that Scott Pilgrim was a twenty three year old man who was still much of a child. His world was a drastic allusion to the world of video games including fictitious powers and even his girlfriend Ramona Flowers having eight evil boyfriends. The fi...more

When I watched the movie, it instantly became one of my favourites, and I've watched it countless times since. So I figured, why not read the comic series?
This comic is probably one of the best I've ever read. To me, it had everything. I found every character mentioned likeable, especially Scott's room-mate Wallace. Scott doesn't really have any qualities that stand out about him, but he's real, and I like that.

The book that I read was "Scott Pilgrim's Precious little life" by Bryan Lee O'Malley. This book was funny and really interesting. It wasn't like any ordinary book, the book was diverse and could be read by anyone. The book is about a 23 year old, in a rock band called SEX BOB-OMB. In the beginning he is dating a high schooler named Knives Chau. Everything is nice and happy until Scott has a dream about a rollerblading delivery girl. Scott starts to think about this girl constantly, and one day h...more
Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Life.

This was a cute volume featuring Scott Pilgrim, a 23 year old romantically challenged amateur band member and his rag-tag group of friends, aimed at a teenage and 20-something crowd. I liked the panel layout - easy to follow, just the right amount of action in each, and effective use of humourous pacing. I also really like the dialogue between characters; their conversations sound like the half insulting, half loving ones that are typical in close friendships.

Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life is the first in a series of 6 books by Canadian artist Bryan Lee O'Malley. The first book was released back in 2004 but I didn't get round to reading this series until 2010, shortly before the release of motion picture adaptation by Edgar Wright. I managed to burn through the first 5 books in the space of a week and then I had to wait impatiently for the last one to be released. It was torture, but worth the wait.

Still haven't seen the movie and I've only read the first few graphic novels in their original black and white format, so I decided to begin my "formal" reading of the series - beginning to end - in this new color format. Blasphemy? Maybe. The original black and white editions look great, but WOW, did they do a great job with the color edition. It corrects one minor problem the black and whites had - some characters are difficult to tell apart visually - and just has a beautiful aesthetic all it...more

Premise: Scott Pilgrim is a bit shiftless, but his bumbling charm seems to carry him along. And then he meets the girl of his dreams. No, literally.
I missed Scott Pilgrim the first time around, although I heard all the accolades. I did see the movie, which covers much of the same ground in the beginning as this volume. Since I knew much of the premise and, more importantly, many of the jokes, it took me a while to get into...more

Reason for Reading: I've really paid no attention to the hype about this series, never seen the movie, nor do I know what it's even about. But I did intend to give it a try someday, seeing as the author is Canadian and since I had the chance decided now was the time.

Scott has announced to his friends and sister that he's dating a 17 year old girl. (he is 23) and they think he's crazy, but overall (except his sister) are pretty supportive and love Knives enthusiasm at the band practices. The one thing I found amazingly surprising about Scott's character is that out of all the qualities that he doesn't have. His ability to listen and pay attention to what his girlfriend is saying was a good clue for me that maybe I might root for him. When he sees Ramona Flow...more
Scott Pilgrim is a 23-year-old Canadian slacker living in Toronto who plays bass in a band called “Sex Bob-omb”. He is also dating a high school girl named Knives Chau, much to the derision of his friends and band mates. One day he begins having recurring dreams of a girl in rollerblades, whom he later sees in a library. Her name is Ramona Flowers, an American from New York who now works as an Amazon.ca messenger. Scott is mystified by her, and he ends up dating two girls. He later breaks up wit...more
Yes I’m an old fart and while not culturally starved as some of my fellow “adults”, I’m not exactly what you would call cutting edge. I never read the original Scott Pilgrim series. I remember buying it for my youngest daughter for Christmas a few years back. She loved the gift and both of my daughters read the hell out of all of the books. They would often read me funny passages and show me the quirky illustrations. I caught the buzz about the movie, put two and two together and went out and sa...more
I hate hipsters. Standing around being quirky for the sake of being quirky, behaving in an overly twee manner and trading on empty conversation, superficial gestures, and generally believing being their affected version of cool makes them better than society? Oh... but I will contain my rage for Scott Pilgrim.
You see Scott Pilgrim is the hipster's comic book. Scott is a hipster, all his friends are hipsters, the girl he's started seeing is a hipster. They buy their clothes at Good Will, they're...more
