Very good recipes for making economical stews and simmered dishes with ingedients like turnips, daikon greens, and other good leafy greens. Wonderful emphasis on seasonal cooking. Excellent photos and descriptions. Would have to modify most recipes to cook for vegetarian friends.

An excellent primer for anyone who wants to delve deeper into Japanese cuisine. Big, beautiful photographs of everything from cutting techniques to identifying the ingredients. You will need to find an Asian Grocer to cook the majority of recipes, but they are sooo worth the trouble. The homemade teriyaki sauce is to die for! The cookbook teaches you the basics to give you a good foundation - like how to make your own dashi - and then expands on the basics to create some complex culinary edible ...more
