Camel Club, book 3
Annabelle Conroy is again joining Oliver Stone and the Camel Club's group of mismatched characters in this suspenseful and unforgettable novel of revenge, conspiracy and murder.
The previous novel "The Collector" (a must read) laid the background for this novel, in it Annabelle Conroy pulled a con on Casino king Jerry Bagger and she is now hunted by him and needs all the resources the Camel Club can provide to protect her.

Great book, unfortunately I've gone in to reading the third camel club book without knowing about 1&2, but would definitely like to know more of the history of Oliver Stone/John Carr so will be back-ordering from the library (yes I'm a skinflint, but I like to think or myself as environmentally conscious, saving trees)!

Publishers blurb:"he #1 bestselling author of The Collectors and Simple Genius returns with STONE COLD...an unforgetable novel of revenge, conspiracy, and murder that brings a band of unlikely heroes face-to-face with their greatest threat. Oliver Stone, the leader of the mysterious group that calls itself the Camel Club, is both feared and respected by those who've crossed his path. Keeping a vigilant watch over our leaders in Washington D.C., the Camel Club has won over some allies, but i...more
After reading it about a quarter of the way through, I realized that I had missed the second title in the series, The Collectors. Oh well. This is one of those series that makes a lot more sense to read them in order but not absolutely critical.
The premise of this novel is that the Camel Club, a team of unusual people, need to protect Annabelle Conroy ( a character introduced in The Collectors), from Jerry Bagger, the Atlantic City casino owner from whom she coned $40 million. Former...more

It is a tale of cunning and lies. It is like a made-for-TV movie. The pace is steady and the plot is straight forward. There are two separate plots that are linked only by the characters and do not affect each other. The action is evenly split across a range of twelve characters with major parts played by three of them, two of whom are members of the Camel Club.
I felt a lack of empathy for all the characters, who all shared an arrogance of believing "I'm the best". The story...more

Exciting Story that will keep you on the edge!
I’ve always enjoyed David Baldacci's Camel Club series and their group of peculiar characters. The books are exciting and always keep you on the edge.
In this story there are several plots and subplots going on. In one plot we find Oliver Stone, who went by the name of, John Carr, as a former CIA assassin, comes to grips with a terrible mistake that he made years ago. He had terminated an innocent man who was falsely identified as a trait...more

Petualangan Camel Club masih terus berlanjut.

Topical thrillers like Stone Cold are not normally on my reading queue, but a friend recommended I read a David Baldacci book (so I could get a sense on what she liked to read). I'm pretty sure I've read a Baldacci book before, but it has been many years.
In this case, I picked 'Stone Cold' only because of the good reviews it had. It was easy to see it was the 3rd in a series (The Camel Club), but how well an author makes it easy to invest yourself into a series without having to st...more

I usually avoid giving five stars to my "guilty-pleasure," escapist reading. This is not a book that changed my life or made me a better person, it was just a book kept me turning pages. Although I've loved the whole Camel Club series, this one was the best yet. I loved the plot twists and the unique characters. I'm headed to the bookstore for "Divine Justice" because I can't wait for the 300+ people on the waiting list at the library to finish it.
A quick read that rates high on the entertainment scale but stretches the credulity of even regular fans of “secret government” paranoia. An old guy with all of the physical strength of a twenty year old but the experience of decades, a mind like a computer and the structural character of an ancient oak who has actually learned something from his past mistakes. Hmm..I like the concept but…nah, I’ll stick with superman or 007.
Plot-driven, fast-paced, suspenseful, political fiction

Another page turner in the style my friend Laura calls Scooby Doo stories. There are miraculous resolutions brought on by incredible coincidences that bring the story to an end.
Mind you, there were a few miraculous incidents along the way as the story developed as well. Characters were blessed with almost divine omniscience to know exactly what their antagonists were doing and thinking.
While all the juggling is taking place, snipers shooting through photos at a quarter mile and s...more

David Baldacci will most likely get a 5 star rating from me each and every time. I absolutely love his stories...I get so wrapped up in the characters! Especially the Camel Club bunch. *Spoiler alert* This could very well be the last of the Camel Club books. I am bummed :( But as usual, I had trouble putting it down at all!!! So good!!!
This was one of the best that concern the Camel Club. I was sick when I read it [literally] and I finished it too quick. It's one of those books you don't want to put down and you sure don't want it to end. Annabelle is back to team up with the guys and there are several problems they must solve. Full of action.
I should probably stop reading these books out of order, but they are good stand alone reads as well. This is mylatest installment of good things to listen to while you run. What I like about Baldacci is he slowly and steadily unravels the story, so there is no great surprise in the last 20 pages that you built up to for 400 pages. While you miss that 20 heart pounding pages, the 400 pages are far more engaging and it is more organic to continually be gathering pieces of the story until the e...more
I liked this book better than the previous book in the series (The Collectors)--the dialogue was less ridiculous and the plot somewhat more believable. One critique I have is that it's still not clear to the reader whether or not Carter Gray was a good or bad person on the whole. After what transpired at the Capitol Visitors Center, I started to think that maybe Gray wasn't as horrible as I initially thought, but then, of course, Stone/Carr takes him out, so that led me back to my original bel...more
I've enjoyed these "Camel Club" books by Baldacci. Oliver Stone comes out of hiding to find the person who is killing members of his old CIA killing squad who were involved in the murder of an innocent team member. The Camel Club is now joined by Annabelle Conroy, the con artist from the previous book, The Collectors, who is being pursued by the casino boss whom she duped in that book. A former CIA director, Carter Grey, and a Senator Roger Simpson are the "bad guys" with sec...more
I really enjoy this series about the unconventional characters who make up the camel club. This time the threat to the group is more personl. More would be telling.
Continuing right where the last Camel Club installment left off, we get introduced to yet another fantastic character who teeters on the verge of good and evil. Do we like him? Do we hate him? Is he a murderer? Is he just? Who knows (well once we finish the book we know). Then there is Oliver Stone and the Camel Club whose lives get interweaved among the new character, as well as some of our favorites from the previous two novels. This storyline was not as strong as the previous two, but the ...more
Man, this one will keep you on the edge of your seat. We have the continuation of Annabelle's story and Oliver's past coming back to haunt him.
I loved that Annabelle was able to come back to Oliver and let him help her get out from under her past actions. Jerry needed to be taken down, but in a way that let her get her life back. The way things came down with that action was bitter sweet.
We also really got to know about Oliver's past with this book. It wasn't always p...more

I listened to this book since I didn't have anything else at the time, and was going on a trip. it was pretty good, but I felt it jumped around quite a bit between plots. However, since I enjoy the genre, decided I would try another book from the author which I enjoyed much more.
This book is about a retired secret agent who is supposedly dead, but who has taken on a new identity. His past life comes into the picture as his old buddies start being murdered, and his life is in peril. A...more

I finished The Collectors last week and since it left you hanging I wanted to see what was next for the Camel Club. Parts of this book I liked: Alex, my favorite character was back and more of a part of this story than he had been in The Collectors; more about Annabelle, the interesting and likable con artist; and some of Oliver's secretive past is explained. There is plenty of action and twists but at times too much killing that is "justified" by main characters. There is also a surpr...more

This was my first Baldacci read and I'm hooked. Looking forward to reading more. I didn't know til after I'd read it that it was #3 of the Camel Club series, but that didn't affect how good the book was. I'm glad that I read this one before "Divine Justice" (#4 of the series), because I think I would be lost in the story due to how much history you need from #3 to understand what is going on. He writes a great thriller/government conspiracy story. Kind of makes you wonder how much...more
Post Listen Review: Yep, three stars for this one. It had lots of action, plenty of nefarious characters and the oddball charming good guys. I enjoyed it and thought it was well written but not spectacularly memorable. I enjoyed the con-man/CIA/ex-assassin angles in it. The death of a certain character was actually surprising to me and the plot moved on nicely. I don't mind listening to these audiobooks by David Baldacci at all and considering the amount I detested some of the audiobooks I...more
There is so much I can't say about this book for fear of giving too much away! Suffice it to say, Stone Cold picks up right where The Collectors left off. Oliver Stone, the leader of the Camel Club, is determined to help con artist Annabelle Conroy out of a jam. Unfortunately, he finds himself in a dangerous predicament of his own, making things far more complicated.
At its core, Stone Cold is a story of revenge. While all the Camel Club books have a theme of seeking justice, the even...more

The third book in the "Camel Club" series, "Stone Cold" is a good read. It is, however, my least favorite of the first three "Camel Club" books. I was a little disappointed because the second book, "The Collectors" was SO good and "Stone Cold" picks up where it left off. I'm not saying it wasn't good, but "Stone Cold" just wasn't on the same level. There were a few plot devices that were just a little too convenient and one major su...more
It really rates a 0 in my book. I have a weakness for thrillers and mysteries. The plot is implausible, the book badly written, the style that of a child and the characters but one dimensional& poorly presented. The hero and anti-hero are superhuman in their abilities, and the incidents are badly described.
