Are ghost real? Can a statue tell a story? Jim and his sister Sadie are getting over their mother's death. Their father makes them move to a scary mansion called Minavera Hall, where Jim's father will become the head gardener. But Jim thinks that he is being watched but children who have been dead for almost 100 years. I've read this once and loved it but it just didnt keep my attention.

Helpless, though it may seem like the end of the world when trying to figure out what in the world is going on. It’s not as easy as it seems. The hunt for the seventh in an endless mansion, a sever hunt that may cost the life of the only one who is trying to figure the seventh out. And has already cost the lives of others in the past. This divine book to me was an inspirational read. Not because of what happens in the book but, the way the author wrote it. I would recommend this book to anyone w...more

As someone who works in education, I often read books that are on my students level. I love being able to talk to them about books and get them excited about reading. I am not normally a ghost story kind of person, but when a friend recommended this book to me saying it was amazing I could not pass it up. I am very glad I listened to her and read this book because it is one that is going to stay with me for a long time.

The whole premise of the book is to "find the seventh" who is presumably a ch...more

I picked this book up at my kids school book fair, because it was on sale, and it sounded interesting.

The reading level is probably that of a middle school aged child, but I still was able to read and enjoy the book.

Jim, his sister Sally, and their Dad move into a large estate where dad is going to be the head gardener, and they will live in the old servant quarters of the estate, the South Turret to be exact. The Master of the estate, whom they call "his nibs" or "nibs" is a very old gentleman...more

Rating: **** This is an eerie thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end. The author has linked ancient rituals with modern mystery to create a great ghost story. At times the vocabulary and descriptions of the ancient rituals might prove too confusing for younger readers.

Summary: A haunted mansion, six dead children, and a garden of statues lead Jim on a ghostly adventure. The ghosts of six children urge Jim to “find the seventh.” They leave him clue...more

I just finished up this fascinating read by Christine Morton-Shaw. The Hunt for the Seventh was a wonderfully written book. There were many times in the book that I had no idea where the plot was heading so that makes it a great thriller I suppose.

The characters and plot of this book were excellent. The characters were well developed, but not over developed. I never found myself bored with an over explanation of what was going on, as some authors are prone to doing. The plot had sufficient twist...more

My overall view of this book is that it is a "Davinci Code" for middle schoolers. Jim Brown is a young boy who has recently lost his mother and moved to a huge estate where his father is the head groundskeeper. Jim also happens to see dead people. He also has a knack for snooping around where he's not supposed to be and getting caught. The plot revolves around the mystery of 6 unexplained child deaths on the estate and local folklore surrounding the area. I didn't really like the main character,...more

This book was awesome!! I felt a mix of emotions over the course of reading this book. I was thinking about how these kids died so young and well... you never know what's going to happen the next day. I think that one of the author's lessons was not just that life is unfair, but that in the midst of life... comes death. The Minerva kids who died were so young and full of life but death came to them.
Death is a very complicated subject in some ways. It can be good for someone... but devastating...more

I would recommend the book “The Hunt For The Seventh” by Christine Morton – Shaw because there are very mysterious parts and it’s a very suspenseful book. Also the author of the book, Christine Shaw, leaves the reader with a hook and something to think about after every meaningful event. The line from page 224 “ I got the sudden feeling Blind Meg instructed her brother to do all this”, is a very mysterious part and leaves the reader thinking what is going to ha...more

The Hunt for the Seventh is about a 13 year old boy who just lost his mother and moves to a huge haunted house with his dad and sister. His new master does not like children so does not let the kids go explore the other parts of the house. But soon he finds many new mysteries of the house.

Reading this book I felt a mixture of emotions. Since the plot and background of the book are stated early, I began to make predictions as to what I thought would happen. The plot was basically about a young boy named Jim who has lost his mother and moved to a huge, creepy estate with his father and sister. Knowing the background of the main character helped me get a feel for why he dealt with certain things the way he did. One of these things was the interaction with the many ghosts in the esta...more

This was a good, quick little read. I like ghost stories and this one had plenty of ghosts, a mystery, druidian ruins, ancient Pagan rituals and the like. The story is set on the grounds of an ancient English estate where a young boy is charged by ghosts to help them resolve the curse on the land, from the moment his family arrives at the estate. There's a cruel Master, a faithful butler and a kindly cook. Yes, cliche, but still a good story. It's not the best writing I've read in a while, but i...more

I would definitely recommend this one to kids in 5th grade or up, especially all those kids who just want to read a "scary story." I planned to read just one chapter, but that become just one more, and soon I had finished the whole book. It is the story of a boy (who is 15, apparently, but sounds more like a 13-year-old) who moves to an estate with his sister and their father, who is the new head gardener. Almost immediately, Jim starts hearing and seeing dead children, and finds out about a pro...more

Good ghost story, but got a little tired of waiting for Jim to figure out what was going on....b/c I pretty much did in the very beginning.
Jim, his younger sisiter, and dad move to a huge estate after their mother dies. The father is the new groundskeeper and the children have been strickly forbidden by the crotchety old estate owner to stay put and not snoop around. Well, as soon as Jim hears a child's voice telling him to "find the seventh," he makes it his mission to figure out what happened...more

Well, I had this huge stack of books to read for this past week's Book Talks and had to decide what to cram in at the last minute. I had to choose between three very interesting possibilities, and decided to dive into this one, The Hunt For The Seventh. I actually enjoyed it and once I'd started it I couldn't give up on it, because I wanted to sell it to the 6th grade guys.

I ended up buying the copy I'd previewed. Maybe my little guy, when he's old enough, will want to read it. Yeah, that's sad....more
