I just now finished this fabulous book -- though I must admit I could barely read the last 30 pages I was crying/sobbing so hard!!! Honestly, I couldn't see the pages. I dropped everything else I was reading when this book arrived Thursday but really started reading it voraciously Friday night, read until 2 AM and then have been reading it all day today. This is the story of Sister Bernadette and Tom Kelly from Sandcastles and their trip to Ireland to try to find the son they gave up for adoptio...more

True love never dies—but it may need the helping hand of the Virgin Mary and the luck o' the Irish to survive in Rice's latest, effectively a sequel to last year's Sandcastles. Sister Bernadette Ignatius (the former Bernie Sullivan), Mother Superior at the coastal Connecticut Star of the Sea Academy, travels to Dublin with Tom Kelly, the academy's ombudsman, seeking James, the son they gave up over 20 years ago. In a parallel narrative set up in a prologue, young James ...more

I love Luanne Rice books, most of all because they don't all have the sappy-sweet happy "hollywood" endings that seem to be mandatory in a lot of novels these days. They characters are believable and you don't always get the ending you're rooting for - but who does in life?
What Matters Most follows new characters first seen in Sandcastles. Most of her novels, even those in a "series" of characters, can be read independent, although I think this one makes far more sense ...more

Within a two day period this book was recommended by two patrons at the library. One recommendation was a book club participant and after reading the book I agree this is a very discussable book. I enjoyed this title primarily due to my love of Irish! The pacing through part two was a bit slow but it moved on again in part three.

I love Luann Rice's writing. I read a great deal of this book while sitting on the beach in Connecticut - one beach or so over from where the author lives. In What Matters Most she writes about three of my favorite things: Connecticut, Ireland and love - a sure-fire formula for a great book. Her characters have substance.

I see Luanne Rice's books at the library and the book sales, but never read one. This book had an interesting plot--a Catholic nun and her former lover search for their son in Ireland, but it was highly implausible and the scenes and dialogue were often repetitive.

I loved this book! Get "The Edge of Winter" and this book (which continues with the same characters) and snuggle into some good reading! Rice does an amazing job weaving the lives of her characters into a tapestry that leaves me wanting more of the picture.

Not my cup of tea...I am such a realist (and unimaginative, as someone once told me) that I found the apparitions and ghosts written into this story a bit hard to take. I know Rice has written many other books, but this will probably be enough for me.

I read this book in less than a day. I like Luanne Rice's books. They are light reads and easy for me to pick up and read without a lot of thinking involved. This one was actually a continuation of Sandcastles, which I read in Mexico.

This was a very very good book. I couldnt put it down and I read it in a matter of hours. I was left speechless near the end. Luanne Rice is turning out to be one of my favorite authors. She reminds me of Nicholas Sparks.

This book was, well, just okay. I liked the book that preceded this, The Edge of Winter, but this one had just one too many Mary "visitations" for my liking. I thought they laid it on pretty thick.

This was such a beutiful story as are most of her books. It wasn't a happily ever after ending like I prefer but I undestand why it had to end that way. It's a great book to read on a snowy day!

Loved it. Some of the characters are in another book of hers. Fun to reunite with them and find out the next chapter in their lives. The new characters are great also.

Quick read about a nun and her former lover searching for the child they put out for adoption...a nice love story with great characters. Good weekend relaxation.

This was a good book but I was at times very frustrated with the main character. Be prepared to cry...it is both heartbreaking and heartwarming.
