This was the second volume of the German translation of DFW's Oblivion.

Again, consistently great short stories in the DFW style - interesting story-telling structures, intriguing story turns, strange topics, quaint vocabulary (prepare for "katexochen", "ptotic", "epitasis") - melancholically-head-shaking pessimistic world view.
