This is a fun cumulative-style story that depicts a young girl running around town, trying to find her library book. Each person she meets admits to reading the book, but no longer having it and they all follow her around until the fairly predictable ending. I liked that the book was not ever named, but each person gave enough clues that our girls were able to guess early on which story it was. And we liked looking at the variety of books that each of the townspeople borrowed at the end of the s...more

Stella Louella is distraught because she has lost her library book. She retraces her steps to find the book and meets the many, many, many people that also found her book. The premise is nice -- the lost library book is enjoyed by all and returned to the library -- but the story is really long. I also didn't love Stella Louella's hysterics. A lot of kids have lost library book anxiety already and I don't believe that this will be a selection to give them perspective.

That being said, it is a nic...more

This was a fun way to introduce kindergarten to checking out books, since it gave a nice intro to talk about book care/responsibility. I love how they never name the lost book, but every character had a different favorite part that gave us enough clues to figure out what it was. The kids thought it was hilarious when I read all the names of the people following Stella quickly in one breath, especially toward the end. Only downside was that it was a little longer than the books we usually read, s...more

Ernst, Lisa Campbell. Stella Louella's Runaway Book. (1998)

Another "Storytime with Grandma Tash" five star recommendation for my wonderful grandchildren-readers! Jennie, Ethan & Kate discovered this book and insisted that I check it out. They were right - it's a great book!! Stella Louella can't find her library book and it is due by five-o-clock!!! She and her family and friends go on a search that takes them all over town. Will they find it in time? And can you figure out the name of that missing library book from the clues they give you along the...more

Stella Louella has lost her library book and it absolutely, positively must be returned by 5pm! My favorite book to read to children as an introduction to the library. Stella's book gets passed around the town and as she chases it (with a growing crowd) each shares their favorite part of the story. A fun guessing game for the listeners who try to figure out the name of the book Stella had checked out from the library.

When I read this to my 2nd graders yesterday, they got really into the book. It talks about how this girl lost a library book and she goes throughout the town looking for it and gets the whole town involved. Also, it uses time like 10 minutes until 5 o clock and my 2nd graders were like that is 4:50 and then when it said she had 5 minutes left, they said she would not make it in time. It was a good book to read!

A little girl loses her library book that is due by 5:00 that day. She goes through an entire trail of people who have also read it, all of them listing their favorite part along the way.
It would be fun for little ones to figure out which book it was by the clues from the favorite parts listed by the different characters. Has a bit of a feel like "the house that Jack built"

This is the story of Stella-Louella's search for her missing library book. She's awefully worried about being banned from borrowing books again if she can't find and return this one library book by 5 PM! One thing I liked about the story, though, was that each person she came across who'd found the book, had read it, and mentioned something they liked about the story.

Another picture book I need to purchase. Stella Louella is extremely concerned because her library book is lost. Will Mrs. Graham, the librarian, ever trust her again. Throughout the story clues are given as to the title of the missing book. A wonderful way to introduce mysteries to students. Very appropriate for 2nd and 3rd graders.

I love this book. I have read it to several different classrooms to children ranging from 6 to 10 years old, and they all equally love it. In this book you follow Stella who has misplaced her library book, and how she travels all over the city looking for it. You meet a lot of characters in this story who are all equally interesting.

Stella looses her library book and has to find it before it is due by 5:00. She tracks her steps back to every place and finds that someone has done something else with it. It becomes a neighborhood thing that everyone is doing to help Stella find her book.

Stella Louella has lost her library book! Mrs. Graham will never let her check out another book, again. Stella has to run around the whole town to find the book. Clues are given from the townspeople as to the missing book. Will she make the 5pm deadline?
Kelly
Fabulous book to introduce elementary grades to the library. Also introduces the concept of sharing favorite elements a la book reports. I also liked the time aspect of the book...got to return the book by 5pm!

A whole group is racing to find a missing library book. Good repition, the kids liked guessing what the missing book was, and they liked the storybook characters reading in the library at the end.
Pat
The layered chase of the missing library book, good for start of the school year. Recommended for grades 2-3.

Stella Louella finds that her library book is missing, and she follows clues all around town trying to find it.

Picture Book. CIP Summary: "As she tries to find the book that she must return to the library that day, Stella gathers a growing group of people who have all enjoyed reading the book."

The author gives hints throughout the story about which book is missing, which makes it fun for the kids to guess which book they think it is from the clues. Each illustration took up both sides of the book, which makes it a great book for read aloud. Everyone can easily see the pictures. Appropriate for children t...more

A compounding story. Stella can't find her library book that is due. As Stella begins the hunt for her book, each new character goes on the hunt with her (i.e. first just Stella; then Stella and Sam; then Stella, Sam, and their dad etc...). Each new character (having read the story book)also gives the reader a clue to what story book Stella is looking for. My girls enjoyed it.

K+. Stella Louella's library book is due and she must get it back to the library by 5pm. Unfortunately, she has left it out and others have read it and passed it along. So the chase is on to locate and return the book on time.
