Worth reading. Especially if you are in consulting. I like the beginning of the book especially, and will be turning back to some of those pages for reference.
Thinking logically
The book starts strong by introducing "MECE: Mutually Exclusive Collectively Exhaustive." I use it often in my teams. Think of it as building a decision tree, where you cover every option, and none are overlapping. Each branch in the tree also has more MECE sub-branches. When deciding or investiga More...

I have a Master's Degree in industrial-organizational psychology and am working on a Ph.D. I say this so you will know where I am coming from in this review. This book is filled with jargon that appears to be unique to the McKinsey firm. Much of the book seems to be an advertisement for the firm, indicating that anyone who works for this firm is a superhero in the business world, and only the absolute best of the best (reminiscent of Top Gun) would ever be chosen. I do believe that there is

Having been a consultant at some point or rather, this book is just the very epitome of what a consultant really is: Someone who 'cons' you out a big, fat fee, and then proceeds to 'insult' you by telling you exactly what you already know.

Not insightful and lacks depth. It may excite MBA grads looking to join McK but has pretty much nothing for others.

A very short, clear, and simple insight into some of the secrets behind the success of the management consultancy, Mckinsey. I really liked the way the author divided the book into short and to-the-point chapters, and used short quotes from successful alumni to back-up most points.
It really does provide clear-cut tools, principles and guidelines that could be applied not just to management consultancy but to most lines of work; delegation, use of evidence and many other things were di More...

a simple to follow book, yet short sentences and chapters maybe because the material was split into two books, the mckinsey way I mean. I hoped the book were written by a mckinsey alumni since the entire book was based on interviews and research, not experience, and that swallowed the information within.
If you entitled to new managerial position in a service company then this book can be helpful, even though it was originated for the purpose

Good useful tips. Interesting peek into the corporate culture of the top consulting company.

Interesting but ultimately doesn't really add that much more to the author's previous book "The McKinsey Way".

I'm a alumnus; so, I probably am biased, but it's a great book. If you have ever had to lead teams and spearhead projects, you know how hard it can be. Here's a great guide. For those of you who have a Six Sigma background and who want a way to explain things in a simple manner, here's your book.

2.5 stars, gives some insight into how consultants try to think. It's not clear from the book that they do, but at least companies like McKinsey have enough resources and processes in place that just following those can sometimes get stuff done...

Other than chapters 2, 3, 6 and parts of 5 the book left a lot to be desired.
