Entah karena bio...more

Fulfilling. I felt like I just took an AP course on the Manchu Dynasty. This story is about the last Empress of China, Tzu Hsi. I was unsure about how to say her name so I asked my Mandarin speaking husband. And he quickly said her name and used the proper tones. I won't presume to spell it out phonetically. I thought it looked like Su-Si. "That little Suzie, what a sweet girl." Which is quite laughable, once you read the book you will see that Tzu Hsi was courageous and cunning,...more

Pearl S. Buck seems to be out of fashion these days... can't imagine why, her books are full of passion, treachery and deceit-- you'd think she'd make the perpetual top sellers list.

This is one of the first "adult" books I ever read. How lucky I was to happen on it. (not only did I learn what a Euniche is, though not how to spell it apparently) but I was gripped by Buck's character relations driven plot.

Once inside the narrative, it satisfies all guilty pleasures yet the lan...more

bravo for Pearl S Buck, yang membuatku jadi bi...more

Interesting read about the days when the Western civilization ran out of space and decided to turn to China. Really nice descriptions scattered around here and there but in about halfway through it all became a bit exhausting and indifferent to me. The passion just wasn't delivered to the reader. If it had I would have probably given this a 5 star rating.

this is my fave kinda story, the story that tells about how great n powerful a woman can be. she's one hell of a woman if i can say that. but as we know, no pain no gain..n u have to choose which way to go, especially if ur at the crossroads. she made sacrifices needed in order to fulfill her ambition. n she's really tough, ambitious, inspiring lady.

Yayy! Girl Power!!!

I found this paperback in my dad's collection. The sticker price is something like 39 cents! I was afraid the pages would fall out. I loved it! It's a great story of life inside the Imperial palace. Hard to believe but it's the only Pearl S. Buck I've read. I really must get to The Good Earth soon.

This might be my all time favorite book. It had historical properties, strong women, lots of descriptive scenery and well developed characters. I learned alot about China.

Her story just got a little long and the same to me...it was interesting the life they lived back then, but after a while it all got very exhausting. I hated the eunuch servants...gross, perverted, completely void of all moral men. Yuck.

One of my fav book all time. This is a must see book!
I love Tzu Shi, the main character. Beautiful, yet dangerous. A woman who knows what she wants and do everything to achieve it. Such a provocating one...
