This was definitely the darkest of the four books I have read so far, but still well written. I once again read it in a day. I thought the author did an excellent job of bring out multiple female personalities, in diverse ways. I thought the relationship between Jacky and Clarissa played out very interestingly, it makes me wonder how it will be in a subsequent one. I loved the part when Jacky explained the goddess Diana to Katy (391). Elspeth Goodwin's character also played out very interesti...more

In the fourth installment of the Bloody Jack series Jacky returns to finishing school in Boston to escape charges of piracy. As she waits for Jaimy to come meet her, she finds herself in trouble again. She and her classmates are abducted from a school picnic and held in a slaver bound for North Africa. Jacky works to organize the girls to keep their spirit up and plots their escape.

I have enjoyed all of the adventtures of Jacky Farber, but i think this is my favorite by far. I loved that instead of the girls mocking each other and being snotty they have to come together to survive. this is the way I like my mostly female characters to behave. Also this time I did not have that feeling that if Jacky acted just a bit smarter than she would not be in whatever mess she was in, though that would make for boring adventure stories. i did see the end coming and don't understan...more

Great read, fast and exciting. Even more extravagant than it's predecessors. Jacky Faber is definitely a stand out, swashbuckling female protagonist. I love the play on the letters between Jacky and her sometimes affianced Jaimy. It sometimes seems cruel of the author to keep them apart, but "separation makes the heart grow fonder" and when the two finally marry the scene will be worth the agony of the waiting.

These books are simply amazing. The characters are complex and interesting, the adventures heart-stopping and Meyer leaves you constantly wanting more. The book once again ends with a cliffhanger that made me want to run to every library to see if they have the latest copy. Jacky is a girl who you can't help but love although her ways are a bit... peculiar. I hope this series never ends!

This entry in the Bloody jack series is great, like all the rest, but the nature of the action is different. Most of it takes place inside a ship's hold, where Jacky and her school mates are being held captive! So she has to be clever in rallying the girls to make escape plans. You'll never think about rats the same way again after reading this book, either...

I like this story. The author was very imaginative. However some of parts of this series have "parts" not very descriptive and not important to the story line but there. I rated the books I thought had a more believable story line higher. Over all cute ready, wouldn't buy it though - Maybe would buy the ones I rated higher...

The adventures of Jacky Faber continue and this was a rollicking good one. She's back in Boston, but trouble is never far behind. I thoroughly enjoyed it and stayed up late, but was a little annoyed by the baldfaced setup for the next adventure - because I'll have to wait!

It was a good book, filled with alot of adventure, i read it at my cousin's house and got a good half way through it but then i was so tired i had to go to sleep so i dont know if I will ever finish it... Alot of pirate-y adventure. You realy get to know the characters.

Some parts may be a little inapropriate but it doesn't get to the point where you have to put it down because nothing ever happens. That, I think is the only bad part about this book. It's sinister and yet not creepy. Like all the rest of the books loveable.

This is the doldrums in an otherwise awesome series of books. Jacky and her school friends are taken captive by a slaver and try to escape. That's most of the plot. It isn't necessarily a bad story, it just isn't nearly as good as the others.

I'm having to set this book aside to read other ones. So far it's really, really good...but it's not moving fast and I keep picking up other books. I'm about half-way through and I hope I can finish it at the end of summer or early fall.

I love, love, LOVE all of the Bloody Jack books. She does edge a little into Mary Sue territory at times, but not in typical ways for a female character. She's kind of like an adolescent female version of Jack Ryan (Patriot Games, etc).

An interesting twist to the adventures of Jacky Faber. I found myself skimming over parts, but am interested to see where the next book is taken.

This book in the series is a little more fantastical than the others, and more grim, but still a ripsnorter.
