I'm not sure whether the uniqueness of this series has just worn off on me after having read the first two books a while back or whether this book was just lacking. I suspect the latter. I'm more inclined to say there was something missing in this story.

Juliette is not your normal courtesan in more ways than one. She has the ability to weave spells. Always worried about what she is capable of she tries to hide her talents, but not before evil is brought in to her life by way of an absinthe addicted guardian.

Lyon and Juliette had more ups and downs than an elevator on their road searching for their happily ever after. If you’re already a fan of the series you won’t be disappointed with Lyon. It is entertaining and enthralling. If you’re new to the Lords of Satyr Series I guarantee you’ll want to back and read the previous two novels.

Underlying all of these stories is the need to find a cure for a rampant virus which is attacking grape vines all over Europe. The Satyr brothers are working on a cure but who knows if it will be in time. But in order to do this they need their full strength and their half-faerie wives.

Lyon is dashing, handsome and sexy beyond believe. Juliette is heart warming, sad and strong ad the same time. Truly needing to overcome adversity Juliette probably has the furthest to go to attain happiness in her life and I enjoyed every step of the way.

Lyon: The Lords of Satyr is not one to be missed. Whether this is your first introduction to Elizabeth Amber’s stories or you’re a die hard fan you will love this story. Filled with smoldering passion, suspense, and enough twists to tie you up in knots, this is summer reading at its pinnacle. (less)

Well if your looking for different paranormal, this series is for you. Lyon the third of the Satyr brothers goes in search of his wife. Along the way mischief and mayhem abound along with a lot of sexual encounters. These men are not for the faint hearted but I loved them all the same, especially Lyon, the hotest, most sexiest of the brothers, whose connection to the land and animals makes him distinct. I also loved his HEA.

I wasn't sure if I like this book better than Raine. Although it did have more erotic scenes involved. But the story plot was better in Raine. But overall this was a great story.

WHAT I LIKED:
Amber has a great way of making the ordinary extraordinary. She spins tales that have a great potential to be complex and alluring outside of the sexy stuff. Her books hold a lot of potential in terms of being able to create suspense and an exploration of different ideals and types of people.

You can actually read all of these books independently, there's no fear of missing anything in any of the books.

With a strong sense of history, a bit of artistic license, and a deep well of erotic abandon, Elizabeth Amber has penned a unique, romantic, and sexually delightful series, taking risks and daring to touch on the forbidden with an open minded ode to the freedoms of heart and body blended with a gift for story telling. I've continually been impressed with the originality of the mythos and raw sensuality of the characters as Amber has drawn us along and spun out the lives of Nicholas, Raine, and now Lyon.

Unfortunately, Lyon's story did not live up to the promise of the earlier two books, much to my disappointment.

I will say that I've enjoyed how Amber has managed to broaden the mythos of this series and with each book deepen the historical flavor with a realistic blight on the vines of Europe that has been a plot thread through the series. I also credit her flawless ability to pen erotic scenes that are hot, graphic, and intense, yet not so explicit that they seem out of touch with the rest of the narrative. Also with each book, I've noticed Amber giving more attention to creating story around the two lead characters, and none more so than she did in Lyon.

In that regard, I've stumbled upon the double-edged sword, because that is where my issues with the book begin. In relation to the plot, I felt there was too much time and attention given to Juliette's situation and her life independent of Lyon and not nearly enough time developing any sort of chemistry or bond between the two of them. There was plenty of opportunity given on their two week trip from Paris to Tuscany, yet the author chose to skip over that trip completely after the first day. And everything that followed while they were in Tuscany read more like a rushed and condensed synopsis than actual developing events, leaving me feeling short changed, especially as to the closing of the circle of the quest for the three daughters that comprised the epilogue.

It wasn't just the plot that caused me problems, though, and in fact, that wasn't even the most troublesome. Two simple facts were an even bigger issue: I didn't like how Lyon was portrayed and I couldn't stand Juliette. The sensitive animal lover and fun younger brother we met previously in the first two books was absent in this incarnation of Lyon, and instead he seemed a rather simpleminded man-whore with no further ambition than to get his dangly bits polished, one female interchangeable with another and largely unmoved by it all. Juliette was a weak, laudanum-addicted, petrified victim that wouldn't recognize a backbone if it were an ingredient in one of her lauded recipes. I found her at turns tiresome and annoying. She only ever showed any spirit when she was giving Lyon a hard time, but given the rest of her character, I never bought that she'd actually do so, so that seemed out of place. And how she handled the first Calling once they were in Tuscany (details withheld to prevent spoilers) frustrated and puzzled me.

I could go on, actually, as there was more that befuddled and disappointed me, but when I think back on the whole of the book, I think I could've even forgiven the last if not for the one issue that outshines all the rest. There was not one point through the entire book that I ever got the feeling that Lyon and Juliette loved one another. Not once. Not even when Lyon was saying it did I believe it. There was nothing about love for Juliette in his actions with Sibela, that's for sure, and I was very disappointed with that storyline in particular. Admittedly, it didn't help that the idea of love wasn't even included in the book until the last chapter or two, but there was just nothing between Lyon and Juliette that spoke of anything beyond lust and attraction for the entire story. And I'm sorry, but for me, the book just doesn't work without it. I will be continuing the series because of my appreciation for Nicholas' and Raine's books, but had Lyon's book been the end of The Lords of Satyr, I would've been quite unhappy.

After Raine this book seemed kind of lack luster. I mean, how do you top a hermaphrodite for the strange factor? Besides that, the plot was weak, strangely paced, and filler between sex scenes.

Lyon has been my favorite of the Satyr brothers since his introduction in NICHOLAS, and getting to know him better in his own installment of the series was a real treat.

To summarize the story would spoil too much of it so I can only tell other readers to read it for themselves but despite family intrigue, a protector with plans for revenge, murders and a Nereid with her own agenda Juliette and Lyon find that true love is stronger than any past or the craving for variety.

I must be honest and admit that it took me a while to get in this third installment of the Lords of Satyr.
It was luscious and beautiful in writing weaving magic, emotions, historical scenery and plot together in a paranormal tale of love.
But where in the previous books the erotic scenes had me captivated, in this book they didn't until the second part.
I missed the emotional click I did have with the previous books and I think that was because of two things.

First my expectations of how the character Lyon would be were not met in the first part of the book. After reading about him in NICHOLAS and RAINE I had this playful, roguish image of him and I didn't find this in his story at all.
The whole setting of his book was a dark one where I had expected it to be playful. And for me, certainly the first half was less sensual and more carnal with even a violent vibe to it that I just didn't expect.
I had the feeling Juliette's character and story were dominant throughout the book. Which was understandable plot wise, but where I did find the balance between hero and heroine in RAINE, for me it lacked this in LYON. I just had expected to see more of Lyon. But once I resigned myself to the fact that Lyon was different than I expected, I really enjoyed his story and his journey to love and happiness.

Secondly, and this really has to do with personal preferences and taste, Elizabeth Amber managed to broaden my horizon in the previous books but with this one I couldn't be open-minded enough to accepts some of the characters' actions. There were some actions (both sexually and emotionally) I really was not comfortable with, for example Valmont, Sibela and the two male Shimmerskins. There were things, especially concerning Valmont that almost literally turned my stomach.

But despite the discomfort Elizabeth Amber still managed to fascinate me with an incomparable storyline and love story with mysteries that only fell into place at the very end. What I missed in Lyon's personality in the beginning was made up for in a satisfying way at the end of the book.

When I leave out my own expectations I can only say that she has provided each of the Satyr brothers with a satisfactory and fitting heroine and story. She combines the carnal and lascivious erotic scenes with enthralling and captivating dialogues and emotions. She sets up an intricate and well-written plot and rounds it off beautifully.

For me RAINE was the best book of the three and even if this installment didn't quite meet my expectations it is still a unique and original series that stands out in the genre, entwining history, eroticism and magical legends with ease and fluency.
It's a series I will treasure because it was one of my first encounters with exquisite erotic romance and they are all books that are more than just a sequence of erotic scenes. Everything between the erotic scenes is rich in plot, history, magical beings and emotions.(less)

Elizabeth Amber seems to be growing as a writer for each book is an improvement on the last, at least structuraly. After thinking that Nicholas seemed to suddenly stop, Both this and Raine shows a much more fluid way of storytelling.

I really liked this book, though I didn't feel the same compassion for the two leads as I did with Raine and Jordan. I was still glad that they got their HEA and I liked some of the more paranormal elements to the story.

I liked this book the most out of the trilogy. For some reason there seemed to be more of a story in this book - and I prefer that as opposed to just sex, sex and more sex. Juliette definitely has the BEST powers of the sisters. There were some twist and turns I never saw coming in this book but I will admit it did not have the same high drama factor as the previous books. It was still captivating and I love Lyon and Juliette as much as I love the others. Bravo Ms. Amber for the first three books in this series. I hope to get my hands on the next three soon.
