Would you be an assassin?

i stayed up all night reading. the only thing that stopped me from finishing it was when i looked out the window the sun was already up and i still have a 8 am class to attend, so i figured i got to catch at least an hour's sleep. really exciting, i couldn't put it down. gary soneji is simply sick... yet strangely fascinating.

Why do I keep picking up Alex Cross novels when I am constantly dissapointed? Is it because I read Kiss the Girls when I was much younger and at that time found it enjoyable? Ah the blissful pleasures of ignorant youth. Maybe it is just because there happen to be so many in every airport bookstore that I just can't resist. This book was apparently thrown togeather with no regard for cohesive story line, no thought of how time passes, and no thought of how real people think and feel. Alex Cross w

Its about a guy who's name is Soneji he is a sociopathic killer who ever since he was little has been killing people and has made a game of killing people since he got out of prison. Soneji was trying to get revenge on Alex cross because he was the one who got him put into jail for killing people. That’s where he was raped every single day by a man in prison so when he escaped from prison he went out to get revenge. He killed people at train stations because that’s his secret dark place he has h

James Patterson- Cat & Mouse (Warner Books 1998) 4 Stars
Gary Soneji is back and he is coming for Alex Cross’s blood. He does not intend to kill him outright instead he wants to play a deadly game of cat and mouse. At the same time another deadly serial killer is on the loose and he is killing people all over the globe. Mr. Smith and Soneji believe that Alex Cross is the only one who can take them on, but can Cross survive two deadly killers?

This is the first time I am reading a James Patterson book. It later dawned on me that “Cat & Mouse” is actually part of a long series of Novels featuring Alex Cross, an Afro-American hero who is a criminal psychologist.
Anyone who loves crime thrillers – especially gruesome murder mysteries will love this book. This book actually covers two stories – one featuring the serial killer Gary Soneji; apparently Alex Cross has interacted with him in earlier books; Soneji makes a comeback here, a More...

I first picked up this book when I needed something to read on a 12-hour drive with my church youth group down to Tennessee. My friend lent it to me, and let's just say it didn't last long at all. By the time we got there, I was almost done with the book, and I hadn't started it until about 5 hours into the trip. I was completely captivated by the characters and world James Patterson had created and became an immediate fan.

Another book in the Alex Cross series. Funny how I've only read two of all the books in this series and the same mad man is on the loose in both books! A quick page-turning read, but how does Patterson make up all these crazy people? I had to laugh at the narcisstic description in the book as it fits my brother to a "t." Of course, my brother isn't a mad serial killer, but he is a difficult person to be around!! (p. 235: They exhibit little or no concern for anyone but themselves,

Alex Cross is a cool customer---a black, jazz and classical piano playing, smooth, fit, smart, Ph.D. psychologist and detective---who is often called in on special murder cases because of his special skills and intuition. Here he is asked to help find Soneji, a serial killer he put in prison once before. Soneji is out to kill with a vengeance this time and Alex Cross is in danger. Cross is aided by Pierce, a talented new investigator who has made his name in England going after a serial killer

James Patterson’s Cat and Mouse is a definite thriller. Patterson’s use of suspense and ambiguity creates what the novel is – a page turner. Yet, with all the book’s cliff hangers that spur anxiety, the author still gives a very descriptive background of the characters in the novel. I liked this book because of the long term detective versus criminal pursuit, which creates the idea of a cat and mouse chase. Alex Cross seemed to be an ambitious man in his career, was very ded

NOTE: This review in no way diminishes my love of Patterson's Alex Cross series or his relaxed style of writing. In fact, I started a new Patterson novel last night. That said, I must add that I found Cat and Mouse confusing with Patterson alternating between two equally repulsive antagonists: the vile Gary Soneji in the U.S. and the dastardly Mr. Smith in Europe. The killings in this novel were so brutal they seemed almost gratuitous, shocking the reader for the sake of...well...shocking the re

This was my first venture into Fiction via Audio book. As always, James Patterson was entertaining and engaging . . . it didn't lose it's appeal over this medium. What I DID lose from it was some of the nuances I get from the written word. For instance, spelling turns out to be important and when someone tells me a word, I don't readily visualize the spelling of that word. Further, listening to "romantic" scenes with the narrator's innonation kind of grossed me out (much like heari

I think this is the best Cross novel so far. Patterson makes the story complex and thrilling by changing narrators. First Alex meets up with Gary Soneji (antagonist in book 1, Along Came a Spider). I don't ant to give anything in the novel away. Kyle Craig is still adamant about needing Alexs help about the Mr smith case. The FBI thinks Mr. Smith is complex, but is he really? Or is he just as simple as your average serial killer? Thomas Pierce was finishing up his studies to be a doctor at Harva

Finished book four of the Alex Cross series - I had read this one before, but since I am reading the books in order, I reread this one so I would stay on track. Also, I had forgotten lots of details! In this one, Gary Soneji is back to taunt Alex Cross and to wreak havoc on Cross's family and on innocent civilians at Penn Station and in Union Station. No one is safe in America from Gary Soneji or in Europe as Mr. Smith, a serial killer there, remains unpredictable. When Alex teams up with hi

I had heard from a friend that this was not a usual Cross book, as far as the usual page turning suspense and plot go... I tried to put that out of my head, but unfortunately I think the thought kept me from really getting into the book at the beginning. There was a pretty notable event that certainly got my attention. I started to get excited about it, but then the book went somewhere that I wasn't too impressed with. Didn't really like how the aftermath was handled. And then to skip to another

In this book Alex Cross proves once again to be a little more than a mere human. The big bad from the first book of the series is back and he's looking for a little retribution. Also there is another case of an international serial killer that the FBI wants Alex to consult on. About halfway through another agent takes over the narration for a big chunk of the book. The Alex is back and ready to kick butt again. Meanwhile in his personal life, Alex is falling for the principal big time.

Against my better judgement, I listened to the Abridged version of this audio book because I am a fan of Keith David and it was free. I don't recommend this version. The two actors reading it were fine, but the actual production - which included sound effects! - made me laugh out loud several times. I don't think that was the intention, but I could not help myself. And because it was an Abridged version the plot moved very quickly. The big reveal felt odd, but I am guessing it was because I was

The 4th book in this amazing series doesn't disappoint, truthfully it's hard to read only one. I can read these non stop because each ending is deceptively left to be more ravenous, making me crave more, rather than bringing lots of closure. There is an ending, I don't want to fool anyone, but it's always open for more madness and mayhem for Alex Cross. Echoing real life, justice and truth slips through fingers, formalities and clever lawyers can make a case go either way, regardless of what rea

I read Alex Cross novels because of Alex Cross. There was a section of the book where Alex Cross was no longer in the story. It became a Thomas Pierce novel. The author, who normally writes Alex Cross's character from the first person switched and began writing the Thomas Pierce character in first person. It was confusing at first then just aggravating. Aside from that hiccup, the book was what you would expect from James Patterson and his Alex Cross novels.

Really disappointed. I usually don't "read" Patterson's books--I check them out on CD from the library to listen to while I exercise. Even so, I was disappointed in it. One thing that really surprised me was Patterson's graphic description of the sexual stuff in the book. I've never encountered that in one of Patterson's novels before. I did not enjoy this book at all--and I have really liked many of the other Alex Cross novels. Quite a let down.

The plot is interesting and engrossing, but I had to get past the writing style to finish the book. The first-person narrative parts are somehow glib and at the same time too self-conscious, and the various characters’ thoughts are too similar or too similarly expressed. And Patterson used the device of multiple narrators to hide essential information about the main character from the reader. It felt like he cheated, somehow.

I love seeing people write that this book was brilliant or that the "twist" with mr smith was great and they didn't see it coming. Well when an author lies for a good ten plus chapters from the mind of one of the characters and then we find out like in jack and jill that without any reason or prior evidence that this character isn't a good guy. Please tell me that he writes the police and fbi this way because he doesn't know anything about them. A just graduated med student does not be

This is the 4th book in the Alex Cross series. The first two books (To Catch a Spider and Kiss the Girls) were incredible. I am now finding myself reading through his books at an incredible speed for some reason.
For some reason, I enjoy characters he creates and develops in his books, from Alex Cross (the good guy), to the crazy and deranged "monsters."
I am now obsessed with finishing the series. :)

James Patterson does it again! The Alex Cross series is without a doubt the best crime, thrillers series on the market. James Patterson, yes, practically craps out his books, but the man has figured out the formula for a fast paced murder mystery and it's worked each time so far, for me. If you want a great holiday/three-day weekend read, pick up something Alex Cross.

Another very good James Patterson book. This is an Alex Cross novel, and I always enjoy them. Usually a Patterson book has me from page one. This one took a little while to get into it. I was beginning to wonder if this was going to be the first "bad" one. But once it gets going it is excellent. By the end I was far from disappointed.

Another good book in the series. An action-packed read that is a real page-turner.
Back Cover Blurb:
Psychopath Gary Soneji is back - filled with hatred and obsessed with gaining revenge of detective Alex Cross. Soneji seems determined to go down in a blaze of glory and he wants Alex Cross to be there. Will this be the final showdown?

Gary Soneji from Along Came a Spider is baaaack. He is out to get Alex Cross with a little game of cat and mouse. Who is chasing who? For another twist, another serial killer, Mr. Smith, is on the loose, and he has been killing in the US and Europe. Alex is the only one who can get into the heads of these killers, but can he stop both of them?

Good read in the Alex Cross series. Cross is facing Soneji again (from the first or second book I believe) and he is up for a game of Cat and Mouse that takes some interesting turns about mid-way through the book. Cross has good instincts and gets lucky. Of course I always think characters are crazy that date women who are in dangerous professions and there's no exception here with Cross and Christine. Anyways, looking forward to the next books.
