I am definitely interested, and am looking forward to the next installment in the series.
There's a humorous twist to the Demon Lord character in that he's not particularly evil. At all.

I am now into the fourth book in this series and have completely changed my mind about how much I like it, hence the new rating of five stars. This is a keeper, a lender, and a definite recommendation to anyone who enjoys fantasy and/or manga!

Aaaaah, Demon Diary! I remembered the pretty art and the incoherent storytelling, but I had totally forgotten how crackalicious you are. What other book has dialogue like this:

Eclipse: What should you do if someone sees you taking a bath?

Raenef: Say "harumph" with aplomb, cast a faint prevention spell and then administer 99 wedgies. Finish by butchering him with a butter knife. Right?

You have to admit, that does have more panache than just turning the guy into a stag and setting his own dogs on

I cannot begin to tell you how much I love this manga! It is so much fun! It's mostly crack... but that's okay! There's nothing wrong with reading crack! The intro to this manga series was just amazing, the characters are hilarious and caring, and the world building was great! I love how everything just seemed to flow so well. I can read this manga over and over and never get tired of it!

Lee Chi Hyong did a great job with telling this story. The dialogue of the characters are so silly you just c

2010 bookcrossing:

I got this in the post yesterday from a UK bookmoocher. I read it this morning. To be honest, it really wasn't my thing, and the way everyone talks like an american teenager seemed to be particularly annoying in this book.

Even though it's a series, this one seems to be about 3 short stories. The first one is about the title, the war between demons and gods on earth. It's about this demon lord in training Raenef, who is a bit dim and too nice to be a demon. And he drives his tut

I absolutely ADORE Demon Diary!! XD I love the characters and the story, and how it manages to have a good, suspenseful plot and still be funny enough to make me laugh out loud! I enjoyed all the books, but was slightly relieved when the author changed after book 1. The illustrations at the beginning looked a bit odd, and I was glad that the new author never continued that plot hint. The bonus stories at the end are completely off-topic though. I did not read most of them, but they looked ultra- ...more

Hm.. Že by reinkarnace? Jinak si vážně nedokážu vysvětlit jak může být stejná osoba ve dvou příbězích muž a ve třetím žena. Ale bylo to krásné. Obzvlášť samotná část Deník pána démonů.

I actually quite enjoyed this story by Lee Chi Hyong...the art by Kara not as much. The basic story established in volume one is that Young Raenef, heir to demon royalty, has to be trained to be a proper evil demon. But Raenef has a more gentle nature than most of his demon peers, so he is assigned the legendary demon teacher Eclipse to help him grow into the expectations of his future role. The most captivating element of this first volume is the developing camaraderie between Raenef and Eclips ...more

This is the first manhwa I read. The art is very beautiful, and the story has many funny moments. My only complain is that the bonds between the main two characters was not really developed...is like one day they just meet and the next day they will do anything for each other and are taking vows to protect each other for eternity. This may have to do with the fact that the authors were in high school when they wrote it. Is still a very nice story and I did like it, but it could had been so much ...more

Great concept, good art -

Eclipse, a high-ranking demon, has his hands full training Raenef, a reluctant demon lord-to be. The problem is...Raenef is basically good, which makes him, and thereby Eclipse, the laughing-stock of the demon court.

This was one of the first manga series I ever bought and got me bitten by the manga bug.

We have clueless teenage Demon Lord Ranenef being trained by demon Eclipse in the ways of evil. Ranaef however isn't sure he wants to be evil...

This is a really sweet proto-yaoi story, although it does become over complicated in later volumes.

There are two bonus stories - Crystal Heart which looks at a cruel demon who collects hearts and Terra which is over-complicated and did nothing for me.

Still I really l

I haven't read this series in so long, but i remember liking the art and the plot. However, what really got me hooked was the one shot in the first volume. It was sooo beautifully well done and the surprise at the end made this one of my most favorite sad one-shots! I bought this volume specifically because of this one shot. If you can't handle shounen-ai, then i wouldn't recommend this (though keep in mind its far from yaoi), however I would recommend this to people just starting out in the gen ...more

Wonderful first volume! Demon Diary is really quite endearing; a sweet-tempered, if somewhat slow, demon lord taking lessons from his retainer on how to be a good demon; its just too funny! The relationship between Raenef and Eclipse is heart-warming; I wonder if it will remain platonic or develop into some shounen-ai? Only time will tell, but either way, I am really enjoying the dynamic of their relationship! The little glimpse into Raenef's childhood was very interesting as well, maybe there r ...more

Heir to demon royalty, Demon Lord Raenef is anything but lordly. He is assigned to proud, stern Eclipse, who must bear the burden of taking this spunky, sweet, almost kind young Demon Lord who would rather sleep during his lessons and turn him into a Demon Lord everyone will fear. Lord Raenef is an incredibly likable boy who can’t seem to grasp the fact that he’s supposed to be scary. In fact, his goofiness leads him to become the laughing stock of the Demon world. Training together creates a re ...more

I really enjoyed the first book of the Demon Diary series. It was quite amusing in parts and I felt it was a really good introduction to the main characters and situations. I like how Eclipse and Raenef's relationship is forming.

I do like the mix of serious drawings and comedy drawings. I think I would have liked more of Raenef's past, but from what I did see of it, it made me feel for him.

In comparison to the humour of this story, the two bonus stories were co

Well, well, what can I say? The style is old-fashioned and good, the plot is okay, the characters are part annoying and part yummy. However, the manga doesn't take itself too serious and is quite funny. The plot itself is only a minor matter, the humour is the main aspect. I don't know if I would read it again, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

The plot was a bit confusing in this first installment. If I hadn't already had the second one, I probably won't have read it, which is a shame because it does get better after the first one. This wasn't the best intro into the series, but it wasn't bad either, just a bit jumpy.

I enjoyed the main story here which seems quite unusual and funny. I like the idea of a lovable Demon Lord. I wished it were longer but I guess I'll just have to read the next one for more.

Chi-Hyong Lee, Demon Diary, vol. 1 (Tokyopop, 2000)

Demon Diary has a great premise, but it suffers from that ailment some manga have of the characters looking do much alike that it's often hard to tell them apart. That said, it's a bang-up story (young, happy demon with “traditional” human values-- consideration, sharing, naivete, etc.-- has to be trained to be a great demon lord), packed with humor and action in roughly equal doses. With such great ideas, it's hard to see this one not improving

The art from this manga actually drew me in.. But after I read all the randomness and dialogue I actually liked it. U ask how I liked the randomness lol? Because in a very weird but funny way they make sense. Eclipse is looking after a young boy who is not evil just a hungry thief and tries to turn him into a demon lord. Mind you the boy is a kittle on the dumb side lol.

A beautiful and hilarious story about the power of growing up and friendship. It caught my attention right away and I literaly could not put it down once I started. Easily one of my favorite mangas I have ever read. I would recommend this if you like stories about the challenges of growing up or strong friendships.

The bonus stories were a little weird, but the main story was really good.

I really wasn't expecting to like this, but I was pleasantly surprised. It's so funny! I love it! The only problems are that I have a little trouble distinguishing guys from girls, and I wish that the sound effects were in English.

The short stories in the back were weird. I didn't really like them... but ignoring them, this is by far the most hilarious manga I've ever read. Oh, Raenef... please don't mature. You're too great as you are. XD I feel so bad for Eclipse.
I'll definitely be reading the rest of these. ^^
