When the chief of the Police Sword Corps himself comes asking for favors, things must be bad. Hitokiri Udô Jin-e--a black-hatted, crazy-eyed slayer who fells both targets and innocent bystanders alike--is steadily working his way through a list of former Ishin Shishi patriots now ensconced within position of power in the Meiji government. Can Kenshin withstand the hypnotic ...more

If you want an overall opinion of my thoughts on this manga, feel free to look for my review of Volume One here.

This manga only gets better and better as you read it. Another character that becomes a focal point of our group joins in this one, and then we get the biggest challenge that Kenshin has yet faced: Jin-e, a man who was also a monster of the revolutionary war ten years ago. Everything from the story we left off in the last volume with involving Sagara Sanosuke is well worth the read, an

Really solid 2nd volume, I read the first five or so volumes in a flurry so I might be mixing events together... but Udo Jin-e is a great "real villain" start to the series.

The story of Rurouni Kenshin continues in volume two of the eponymous series. Here Kenshin, living his quiet life at his new home with Kaoru and her recently acquired student, is dragged into new adventures when the enemy from the first volume returns with the the desire to kill Kenshin, as he is the only real obstacle to him succeeding in his goals against Kaoru.

To this end, they hire who they think is a common thug named Sanosuke, and send him to kill Kenshin. The thug makes it clear he won't

So Team Kenshin has officially picked up another member: Sanosuke, a former street fighter who is now a 'fighting enthusiast'. Which doesn't pay like street fighting did, so he's over at Kaoru's dojo mooching off of her for free food, like Kenshin and Yahiko already do. He complains about Kaoru's cooking, but she rightfully points out that he hasn't got to eat it and if he doesn't like it, he can leave. It being free apparently overrides the bad taste, as he (and the others) have no problem cont ...more
Sanosuke's past drives him to keep fighting, and to wipe out the last patriot, whom he believes to be Himura but Himura is the wrong target (even though he is a patriot). But even with all of his strength and his will, Himura ultimately defeats Sanosuke, and they become close friends after Sanosuke comes to a revelation, realizing that not everything is as black and white as he had always thought. But there is no rest for former Battosai, Himura Kenshin, because now he's been asked to protect an ...more

Today's review is on Rurouni Kenshin volume 2 by Nobuhiro Watsuki. It is 200 pages long and is published by Shonen Jump. It is the first volume in the long running series. The cover has Kenshin and Sanosuke on it. The intended reader is someone who likes historical stories, manga, and interesting characters. There is no foul language, no sex, but some violence in this series. The story is told from third person close following different characters. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

Volume two closes with a quick arc of Jin-e. Although I'm still enjoying the series, there isn't a clear direction the story is taking. This volume introduces Sanso, the last of our motley crew. When Kenshin literally knocks him down to size, he is humbled and decides to stick around and try to learn something from the Rurouni. Then the city is plagued by Jin-E, another mercenary out to get the Revolutionaries. He has the power to paralyze his victims with just a look. He targets Kenshin, trying ...more
Ok, so the first few volumes are nothing new or spectacular but even so, I still find this manga quite enjoyable. The story about a samurai who doesn't want to kill anymore and change himself due to his ruthlessness in his past is nothing new. We've seen this story before.

So far, the characters are really likeable and fun. Kenshin is the nice, honorable, and badass hero that you would expect from an action manga. But he also has a few traits that make him stand out. He's tough but he's also clum

Second volume for Rurouni Kenshin! Another enjoyable addition and it is certainly getting more interesting.

- Introduction of Sagara Sanosuke; I like his character so far, and he and Kenshin make up a great team and there's a nice dynamic between them.

- I really liked the adversary in this volume: Jin-e. Some villains are mediocre, rehashed so there isn't any originality. Jun-e's characterization and his skill as a hitokiri made me feel scared for our protagonists.

- The battle between Kenshin an

This story literally has everything I love in a manga. A fantastic main character with a wonderful backstory, an awesome leading lady who isn't just there for boob-service and actually has a great, well-rounded character, wonderful and memorable supporting characters whether they be friends or foes, stories that get rounded-out and resolved and don't just focus on getting the BRAND NEW FIGHTING TECHNIQUE!!1, a storyline that doesn't stray into sentimental or cliche and yet still tugs at your hea ...more

this contains my absolute favorite episode from the ten episodes i have seen from the anime. whoot. odd sidenote- one of the comments in the book said that the majority of the readers were girls. i was surprised to read that. i had always thought that this was sort of a guy series. oh well.

i still have trouble figuring out if the black "spurts" in fight scenes. are they blood, dirt, or the dramatic "pow" in older comics? don't know. i think that most of them is blood, but what about the scenes w

Baca ulang untuk keberapa kalinya. Sekarang niatnya mau nyelesaiin smp tamat. Soalnya dulu nggak jadi ngoleksi komik ini. Heuheuu....

Setelah baca ulang baru sadar, kalau Shinsengumi diterjemahin sbg Kelompok Shinsen. Padahal biarin aja mah Shinsengumi aja.

Shinomori Aoshi was once the leader of Edo Castle's elite guard, the Oniwabanshû. But with the fighting at an end and the shôgunate overthrown, the brilliant Aoshi and his four most loyal onmitsu, or spies, find themselves without a home or a purpose. When fighting is your life, loyalty to those lost ideals (and to the man who most symbolized them) may be the one thing left. But Megumi's life is at stake, and however sympathetic Kenshin may feel, he will fight on, to the last man if necessary...
We have adopted another character for our cast- Sagara Sanosuke. He is a good mix for everyone.

The villain in this volume (Kurogada) was a good match for Kenshin. He forced him to bring up the old Hitokiri Battōsai and it's adds a dimension to the character. We end this volume with a new villain- a female with opium in her sleeve.

These are getting better and better- I truly feel like I get lost in this world.

Rurouni Kenshin is the second manga that I ever finished reading. I like the drawing style a lot and thought that the plot was pretty good. The thing that I liked about this manga was that there are several people and events in here (such as Saito Hajime, Katsura Kogoro, etc.) that were real/ did happen and I enjoyed looking up said people and events and finding out the historical facts. The manga is also a good read.

This volume was way better than the first! I love the quick transition from Zanza to Kurogasa. Also that its all about the war from 10 years ago.

For the most part I enjoyed how the fight scenes were drawn. The art overcomes the time period it was drawn in unlike DNAngel.

While we go from fight to fight I like that this has a genuine story there and all the character are coming from different POVs.

BOTTOM LINE: A fighting manga.

Most notable in this volume is the fight between Kenshin and Jin-e, a former leader of the Shinsen-gumi. A man who craves to kill, and who doesn't belong in the Meiji-era. The confrontation shows Kenshin struggling with upholding his vow not to kill. He loses control over himself during the fight against Jin-e and returns to his former Battousai self.

So far, it's really good. Very captivating, I can't stop reading. There's one thing I don't really understand though. Who are the patriots, and who are they fighting against? Also, which side was Kenshin on, and who are the "good" guys in the Meiji Restoration, and who are the "bad" ones? What does each side want?? :( A little confused.
Much better than #1. The battles with swords were very exciting. And that Kurogasa guy looked exactly like Gambit O_O why did Kaoru have to be such a PITA when Kenshin was going to have his fight... hmph.
