Confession time. I began reading Robin D. Owens ‘Heart’ series back in 2001 when it was found in the science fiction/fantasy aisle only. I read the back cover blurb, thought it sounded interesting and picked it up. I was hooked. The books were much the same as they are now, maybe a bit less emphasis on the romance part, but still very satisfying. When I saw Owens’ name and the same book in the romance section back in 2006, I was a bit surprised,...more

Okay, this is the best book in the series so far, I absolutely loved it.
When she was 14, her parents sold her as wife to T’Yew. He promised he would not use her as his wife yet, but he lied. He and his daughter and even the Yew Residence like nothing better than to hurt Lahsin, humiliate her, abuse her. Her parents don’t care about that, only about the gilt T’Yew pays them. They know she will have great Flair after her second passage, which will occur round her 17th birthday, and they plan to us...more

I haven't read the entire series but I did begin the series with Heart Mate. I loved the light romance of the "Heart" series and the setting. Since then, I haven't been as satisfied but I enjoy the books.

It's been a long time since I've read any of the books. I found three new ones at Half Price Books and wondered if I could just pick it up again. It's light enough that I can.

For a planet which is all about finding heartmates/soulmates, there sure are a lot of people in denial of their existence...more

Return to Celta - Fate offers heart mates a second chance

I just love the world of Celta, the magical Flair, the Wiccan-ish culture and the promise of a bond with the perfect mate, a Heartmate.

Heart Fate has some very emotional moments, for Lashin, whose married life was a nightmare, and for Tinne Holly (brother to Holm from Heart Duel (Celta's HeartMates, Book 3)) who honorably accepted that he'd lost the chance to pursue his Heartmate and found another woman to marry. But both Tinne and Lashi...more

Lahsin Yew escapes from an abusive husband into a hidden sanctuary where she seeks peace and her Second Passage to acquire the magic known as Flair. But she’s not the only resident in BalmHeal. Tinne Holly is there, too, allowed inside only because he’s anguished over his divorce. Both emotionally wounded by broken relationships, they are drawn together by their unacknowledged Heart bond. Will they be able to reconcile their pasts in order to move ahead into the future? With Lahsin wary of men,...more

This book will definitely pull at your heart strings. Both Lahsin and Tinne have been through the ringer.

Lahsin married off to a very cruel man at 14, now just 3 years later she has the opportunity to repute that marriage and run like hell. She finds a safe place where she can lick her wounds, a place that is hurt just as bad as she is. She even finds a reluctant companion that is in the same situation.

Tinne's life has been one bad thing after another the last few years. Knowing his heart mate...more

Rereading...
Heart Fate is book 7 in the Celtan Heart Mates series. The hero is Tinne Holly, a continuing character throughout this series. At the start of this book, you've got to feel for this guy; if it weren't for bad luck he wouldn't have any at all. But sometimes 'bad luck' is another way for Destiny to kick you into the path you need to take. The setup is very dark. Tinne's wife [not hearmate:] has divorced him [the first time this has happened in 400 years:] and he is ravaged with guilt a...more

Heart Fate is the 7th book in Robin D. Owens' Celta's HeartMates series.

The HeartMate series books take place on the faraway planet of Celta - a place where nearly everyone has some form of psychic power - or Flair. Sometimes the Flair of two people resonate in a particular way to create the much valued HeartMate relationship. Celta is a world with a complex society of classes, including the sentient Residences in the Great Houses and the psychic FamPets (FamCat, FamDog, FamFox - you get the pic...more

Heart Fate is Book 7 in the Celta’s HeartMates series but it is the first one I have read. I was a little worried I would be lost since it is so far into the series but I needn’t have. I was able to pick up the book and feel comfortable in the story from the first chapter – and a powerful first chapter it was and from then on it was a magical ride of trust, love and power.

Lahsin was married to a much older man when she was just a child because he knew that she would become powerful and he wanted...more

There was the altogether brief levity of the search for a new voice for the House. The h was underage by our standards - 17. She was also a victim of spousal abuse. This is something I've seen in just about every book dealing with rape/abuse - once the h experiences the big O at the hands of the H, she's all gung ho. Granted, she might still be frightened of her attacker, but issues w/our H? Nah...

No, as per usual in this series, the issue has to do with the fact that he's her Heart Mate.

I love...more

This was the first HeartMates book I ever read. I wanted to do a re-read to see if it held up as well as I remember. It did.

I'd have to say this is probably my favorite of the series to date. I love that both characters have suffered greatly and aren't ready to jump into anything. The both need time to mend and heal. Seeing their relationship grow is beautiful and lovely.

If you're looking for a sweet romance, I'd highly recommend this one.

This story has two wounded people working their way to finding each other and love. The hero married to help his family because his heartmate was already married to someone else. Now, because of a curse brought on his family because of his parents' breaking an oath, his wife is divorcing him because their marriage is broken. He goes through an agonizing series of tests--Owens does a good job of showing the painful process in a different culture, but there's no saving the marriage. There's nothin...more

I've been looking forward to Tinne's book. Poor guy really had it bad since the first book when he was 17. Hard to believe he's now only 23 when he's gone through so much in the previous books.

I enjoyed the contrast between the junvenile Turquoise Residence and the grouchy BalmHeal Residence.

All in all, a pretty satisfactory read.

Probably my favorite of this series. There seemed to be a lot more worldbuilding in this book, and I really enjoyed the dynamics of the characters. Surprising since series generally have their best books at the beginning. It's still not my normal reading fare, but a nice easy pace when I'm dealing with money worries and a teething baby.

There are so many things that I really do like about this series. I've been reading so much sci fi of late that the romance element was a bit annoying, I'm afraid. I didn't really connect well with either of the characters, though I did like the slow pace of the building of the relationship, given her history.

this is the first book in the series that I've read. and I gotta say that it's weird for me. it's hard to really understand what's going on when I read stories that have really unique and never-before-heard names and places and customs and all. other than that I really liked it.
Cris
Not a good entry-point for newcomers to Owens' series. I would *highly* recommend reading earlier books in the series, especially earlier books about this book's hero.
Deborah Gillespie
Each one of her books gets better and better. The way she brings in characters from her previous books gives the stories a richness and allows you to recall the joy you had in reading the previous books.

This book was an excellent portrayal of how we can each overcome adversity and become who and what we were meant to be.
Jacqueline
I liked the premise here. Both the hero and heroine had angsty problems to overcome. This one was well written and drew me in.
Lillian Wheeler
Very fun SFF romance where the characters actually need time to heal. Looking forward to reading many more of these books.

I just re-read this book before catching up on the rest of the series.
I think this one is my favorite of the series. It really focuses on Lashin and Tinne's recovery from their painful pasts. The character of the sentient residence, Balmheal, was priceless, as was Lashin's famdog.

My favorite character of the series is the Turquoise House (TQ) and this book features a fair bit of time with TQ. It was great.

This is a continuation of the HeartMate series. This is the story of Tinne Holly and Lahsin. Both are married to others but know that there real heartmate is still out there. When Tinne gets divorced, he hears that Lahsin is now running from her abusive husband. He looks for her but he pretends to find her by chance and becomes her friend in order to help her.
Flitterkit
ok. I think these books are just too much of the same. I like the world, but I don't know. The books all seem to be too similar. Probably would have been better if I had not read her other books.
Tamara
The confrontation between Lahsin and her former husband wasn't as interesting as I'd hoped. I was expecting (hoping for?) an explosive situation, maybe a duel involving Tinne. What happened was, for me, anticlimactic.
Autumn
Oh this is one of my favorites in the series. I love this world that Owens has created and Tinne has become one of my favorite characters. Can't wait for more books in this series!!!
