I liked the story, it was new and fun. I actually chuckled a few times and in a particular scene when Maddy had prepared lunch I was laughing my head off.
I can't say I liked Maddy. Often times I just wanted to slap her silly. Though I understood she was living a completely different situation than her usual life in the city. And I also felt sorry for her when David and Rain laughed at her back that one night.
I really didn't like Rain at all after that. She felt superior and always treated Madd More...

For some reason I just keep reading Hailey Abbott books, and keep ending up dissapotined. I have to say, this was far better than Waking up to Boys, but it was still pretty bad. It's another story about a blonde, bratty rich girl who somehow gets everything she wants. I feel like this story was supposed to show a change in Maddy, but I really didn't see it. She was a bitch to her parents and everyone, and basically was only nice when she wanted something. Got the cute boy, though!

I know it's my More...

After reading two five-starred books, it would be too good to be true to strike with a third one, eventually “the other boy” failed to amaze me.

The story, which could be a perfect Disney Movie adaptation starring Miley Cyrus or Emma Roberts (the book reminded me a lot of her movie WILD CHILD) is about Maddy, a rich kid from San Francisco who sees herself spending her whole summer in her parents’ vineyard in Napa valley as a punishment for throwing a wild party merely a few hours after their depa More...

I feel like I should be asking forgiveness for something.

I know this isn’t exactly the summer you’d hoped for. It wasn’t my plan, either. But this summer is turning out fifty times better than I thought it would. Score one for changing plans.
I’m sure I have a few brain cells left that haven’t been fried yet.
- David
I’m just . . . under a lot of pressure right now.
- Maddy
I’ve got something to tell you and I’m going to have to get it out before I lose my nerve.

Maddy Sinclaire has just started what she thought as the best summer of her life; no parents, party at her house, amazing friends and the hottest boyfriend until her parents busted her party and forced her to go with them to Napa Valley to help with their vineyard. Miles away from the what she thought a summer of her life she discovers a new self and a possible new love when she met David. But will this last?

This was definitely a fast read for me. The story is light and funny with just a little More...

Maddy is sentenced to spend her summer helping out on her family's newly purchased vineyard. As the ultimate city girl, Maddy does not find this to be the most agreeable use of her time, but as she spends more time on the vineyard, and most importantly with David(her father's business partner's super hot son) she begins to change her mind. However, as she begins to change she must also remember that she has a life to return to after the vineyard that include a boyfriend and friends. She must fig More...

- Review taken from my YA book blog Little Paper Rose

This was a sweet book - sweet, light, typical beach read. If you're familiar with Abbott you'll know her writing style is very light and simple.
Sure, from the description of the novel it’s already obvious what’s going to go down and how things are going to turn out so there won’t be any surprises along the way. The story rolled on fine, keeping you interested and entertained.

I definitely have a pet peeve with heroines who has a boyfriend when More...

This is okay. The story is really slow and it nearly made me to put this book down. I don't know why others really liked this book but anyway, different people with different taste, right? I've managed to finish this.

It's about Madelaine Sinclaire or Maddy, a rich girl - spoiled as David called her - had her whole summer at parents' vineyard. Then, she started to enjoy living there. Enjoying the taste of wine and the beautiful scene of vineyard. The most important of how eventually David and Mad More...

This was definitely the perfect summer read. Light, fun, and romance-filled -- what girl could resist? While it was your classic clichéd story, I thought it was super-cute and wish that I could be as lucky with guys as Maddy!!! I enjoyed seeing Maddy’s character develop from a rich snob to a down-to-earth girl who could appreciate the beauty of nature.

I’m not going to lie, at first I despised Maddy; she was whiny and stuck-up, but as the book progressed she became very likable and relatable. The More...

This was a fantastic book! It was one of the best books I've ever read! The whole time, I couldn't put it down! It gave a little bit of romance along with humor. The story line was great and the characters were created perfect for the story! I would for sure recommend this book to everyone. It's a great love story and just a good read overall. The story of a snobby, rich girl and a down to earth, country boy falling in love is such a wonderful plot! You would never guess a rich, city girl would More...

Maddy Sinclaire is a rich girl living in San Francisco, California. When she gets busted for throwing a party in her house witout her parent's permission, she is forced to spent her summer in her parent's vineyard. Maddy is away from her friends, house and her boyfriend which is torture for her, but, there is a guy, David, that can help keep Maddy busy in her stay at the vineyard. I thought this book was really good. It shows how someone can change for the better in a new environment. Also, it s More...

Abbott is one of my favorite authors and i had been waiting to read this book for a long time. i looved almost alll of it, the only issue being that i felt like it ended incredibly abruptly. Abbott usually has a good amount of steamy scenes toward the end of her novels and this spent a lot of time leading up to them and very little paying off. all in all though i did love the book. it kept me up redicilously late and every scene made me smile. even with the abrupt ending where i was expecting at More...

I have to admit, I got a little annoyed with Maddy at times. She just couldn't appreciate...at least at first. But then again, it would suck to have planned out you're summer and then have it ruined in just seconds, having to leave you're "so called boyfriend" and friends behind. Her friends turned out to be very supportive of her. By that I mean, they weren't only friends with her because of who she was dating and the house she lived in. They liked her for her, even when her relationship ended, More...

If you don't already know books like The Other Boy aren't my usual reads. But when I discovered this one Goodreads one day, I knew that this would be the perfect summer read. And boy was I right!

The Other Boy starts off with a bang and held my attention till the very last page. It was fun being able to escape in a book you wouldn't normally read. And I had a wonderful time being in the character's world and heads.

Other than being a light, fluffy sort of cliched book, The Other Boy was extremely More...

Good for what it was but it wasn't all that. I have like 10 books by Ms. Abbott but this is the first and only one I've read so far. It was okay, but not great.
It's about a snooty girl with a boyfriend who has to god forbid go spend the summer with her parents on a vineyard they just bought. Meets a super cute boy and you can figure out the rest. I think my issue with this book is that I didn't really like the main charter. Didn't really connect with her. Thought that the vineyard boy deserved More...

My Thoughts:

Madeline Sinclaire’s parents allow her to stay home while they go to Napa Valley for the summer. Her parents end up coming back early and catch her throwing a party at the house. They are infuriated and sentence her to spend the rest of her summer with them at their vineyard. This means she’ll be away from her friends and away from her boyfriend, Brian. She’s reluctant to enjoy the two months there. The place is unlike what she’s accustomed to in San Francisco.

She gets commissioned b More...

By Hailey Abbott

HarperCollins Publishers.

Madeline

Sinclaire (AKA "Maddy") is a typical, (and almost cliched) rich girl. She loves a great party, and has anything she could ask for including her gorgeous boyfriend, Brian, and the house to herself all Summer long. Or so she thought. Maddy's parents have gone up to their vineyard in Napa, so they trust Maddy to stay home in the city and be totally responsible. The first night that her parents are away, Maddy More...

I finished this book in one day, I didn't even need to read into the night. This was such an easy light funny book I couldn't stop reading. It wasn't like the story was very engaging but still it was very nice.

This was beyond cute! A relaxed, easy read that I read in like 2 1/2 hours today. There was no drugs or sex in it, so people that get offended by that stuff won't have to worry! There was extreme minor swearing, only like 5 times did they swear. There was a tiny bit of drinking at the very beginning, but that was only like the first few pages.
I can't wait to read her other books!
btw, David is amazing in it :)

this is more of a movie type of setting and plot.. im not really sure, there are tons of these kind out in books and of course movies. the plot is good but im not half interested in reading this.. so 3/5stars it maybe just the timing of this book, i mean i'll have to put this aside for awhile and maybe when the time comes that i'll read this again i'll get into it hopefully soon. so yeah, i'll update this review when i can :)

Well... I didn't like this book at all, i even kind of hated it. The plot is something that i have read countless times before, & even have watched more movies just like this, just worst.
Maddy is a spoiled brat who i found super annoying.
The book goes like this: blah blah, im super popular blah, my parents hate me blah, i loooove being bitchy blah blah,. And David the guy, seriously?? first she is all annoying and mean to him, then she lefts him to do all the cleaning of the barn or whateve More...

Although Maddy has an awesome life, bpyrfriend, and friends back home she drends having to go work at her parents vineyard over the summer. That is until she becomes very, very good friends with her parents employ when they work on decorating their new tasting room. But can she see beneath his dirty clothes and see the real him, or is it back home to the rich and famous??

Loved loved loved the book, I fell in love with David. I pay waay too much attention to small details though and got really annoyed at one point when Maddy says that David has brown eyes, while on the back cover/the rest of the book it says he has blue. Petty detail, but still bothered me.

This book was lacking romance, and it barely hadf any humor. I've read a couple of Hailey's novels and they are all light, easy and fun reads but this book seriously bored me. After reading the Summer Boy Series I thought this novel would be better. It was a dissappointment.

An easy read, it covered a lot of the subtle changes that come from being outside your comfort zone :) Not to mention David was a lovable character which always helps and the scenery was described really well, it made me want to embark on a country trip really soon!
