The most recent of the Vicky Bliss series by Elizabeth Peters. A final book is due out later this year.
Vicky is an appealing character, a wise-cracking Ph.D. (Art History) with a funny little boss who treats her like a favorite niece. Her foil/romantic lead is a mix of Lord Peter, Raffles, and the Saint.
They're charming books; escapism that provides a bit of education along the way.

The Vicky Bliss series is a personal favorite of mine (even better than the Amelia Peabody series, in my opinion). And this last book - #5 - finally brings things to a great end. After such a long time, apparently there's a new VB book coming out later this year which I'm looking forward to read (mostly because I miss the characters) but if the series had ended here I would've been quite happy.

My other "favorite or second place?" Vicky Bliss story. The plot is long and complicated but the dialogue, as always is wonderful. Vicky is more than an adventuress in this one, and we discover her weaknesses without it weakening her. The beginning kind of lags, but is necessary to bring the real story on. Definitely read.

Another Vicky Bliss that I missed before... so far, it's funny and quite interesting. I am giving this four stars now, 80 pages in, because it is really very good and has plenty of twists and turns, especially with regard to Bliss' notorious affair with Smythe.

If you ever get a chance to listen to the audiobook of Night Train to Memphis, it's simply divine--Kathleen Turner does a bang up job in voicing the characters.

Read in January, 1999
This is the last (so far) in a series, and it really picks up steam (hee hee). The twists are exciting, the characters are loveable, and the book manages to be both hilarious and heartfelt. One of my favorite books.

I think this is the best of the Vicky Bliss series, though it doesn't make much sense if you haven't read the others. It's a fun and relaxing read, and it is fun to play "Find the Quotation" in the dialogue.

The Vicki Bliss series is a definite favorite. I am still hoping for more VB, but I would rather it end on a sweet note than a sour one; some authors don't know when to stop with a character.

Great True-Love-Hidden-Behind-Disdain- Because of Criminal Threats story. You have to read the others in the Vicky Bliss series first to get it.
