Another great book by Roberts. Overall, I enjoy the theme and plot of this series. But my favorite thing about this book in particular is the character of Mac - absentminded professor with a side of hunk. He's just so adorable the way he's always forgetting things and getting sidetracked. And him hooking up with Ripley was an interesting combination.

This is a pretty good book! I haven't read book 1 (on purpose, contemporary romances have not been sitting well with me lately) and I wasn't really expecting to like this one either. Strangely enough, I enjoyed it! Silly me, this is a Nora Roberts.
There are parts that didn't sit too well with me - I didn't care for Ripley's (the heroine) characterization too much. She's angry and sarcastic and rude...often for no real reason. She has a thing about being challenged that...reminded me of...more

I picked up Dance Upon the Air from my favourite bargain bin and found it full of corny stuff that I enjoy. That's the good news. The bad news is that it's a trilogy, and I have to track the other two down.[return][return]The Three Sisters Island Trilogy opens with a prologue of three witches Earth, Air and Fire - who used their power to create a sanctuary from prosecution during the Salem witch trials. They found refuge on the island, but each witch went on to enter relationships that ultimat...more
This is a predictably enjoyable example of the adventure/romance genre.
In the second installment of the Three Sisters Island trilogy, Ripley Todd is the focus. Despite knowing she has power, Ripley refuses to have anything to do with magic and just wants to live an ordinary life as the Deputy Sheriff on Three Sisters. Of course, this being a Nora Roberts book, that just isn't to be!

Ah, summer. The time when I tend to toss most of my serious reading right out the window and stick to novels that I can read with one eye on the book and the other on the kids running through the sprinkler. By far, my favorite author for summer reading is Nora Roberts, a New York Times bestselling author who is known for sticking to the romance genre, but whose books regularly supersede the low expectations you have of romantic fiction. One of my favorites that warranted a re-read before I let i...more

As the Sheriff's Deputy Ripley is used to doling out justice and protecting people. She likes to date when it suits her fancy, and she does not want anything to do with the powers that link her to her former friend Mia and her sister-in-law Nell. When researcher Mac Booke arrives on the island she's determined to have nothing to do with him, but fate seems to have other plans that have nothing to do with what she wants . . .

Really quick review...
Elements of the book and my reaction to it.
Evil S.O.B. who beats wife and after divorce dreams still of killing her.
Alright been there done that. Not my favorite memory.
Cocky female cop...
Well haven't been pulled over by one of them lately.
Three witches and some men who love them.
Well have you met my sisters? Oh wait they are the evil witches. Me and my other sister have been accused of being a witch so ok I will go with it.

Listened to Playaway narrated by Sandra Burr. Previously read. This has been a great trilogy to listen to - a nice, light break from some of the more intense audio books I've been grabbing lately. Ripley is the focus of this middle book and she's a lot of fun to follow with her temper and her battle with herself. Mac's a great hero, I'm always a sucker for the smart guys; although if Roberts hit me over the head again with how much like Indiana Jones he was, I was going to end up with a concussi...more

Oh well! I enjoyed reading Nora Roberts novels. She's one good author. :D and indeed interesting.
And the main character here is somehow funny. I enjoyed it.
The second book of the Three Sisters Island trilogy is about Deputy Ripley Karen Todd, Zack's sister. She was rude, frank, hot-headed and denies being a witch. She and Mia were old friends before, now they were like cats and dogs intimidating each others, but they do miss each others company.

I absolutely loved the dynamic between Ripley & Mac. Though I greatly connected with the compassion of Nell in the first book, it was refreshing and fun to read a character as "hardcore" as Ripley. I wasn't a big fan of her rudeness, but I definitely connected with her need for action, thirst for doing what's right, as well as the tendency to push away and be strong to protect those she cared about most. I'd definitely love to see more of that kind of fierce aura in more literary heroines. M...more
In the series, Three Sisters Island, book two is my least favorite book because of the main character Ripley. I liked getting to know more about Nell and Zach's life together from book one. But Ripley is a tom-boy cop, who has a major chip on her shoulder. I don't mind a tough women but she was right down nasty. She threw adult temper tantrums for no reason. Mac, who was rich and extremely smart, pursued Ripley even though she made it clear she wasn't interested. He took all kinds of crap from R...more
Not as 'gripping' as the first book in the series, mostly due to my dislike of the heroine. I didn't like Ripley in the first book and I didn't like her in her own story, though she sort of redeemed herself in the end.
This book was a little more intense in the paranormal/suspense department with the evil entity intruding from almost the beginning. But that's to be expected. While the first book was meant as sort of an introduction into the world on Three Sisters, this second (as is usual in the...more

After really enjoying Dance Upon Air, I was excited to dive back into the World of Three Sisters Island and the lives of its characters. Even though I had just finished Nell and Zack's story, I was excited to see how Ripley's part played out, because she had been such an independent and spirited character in the first installment.

This is one of my absolute favorite series of Nora Roberts. I have read this at least once a year for I think ten years now. I lost the paperbacks in a move and purchased each book on the Kindle within 2 days of receiving my Kindle. I am very happy to see Mrs. Roberts’ books being offered as a set for the Kindle now, since if I am going to read one, I am probably going to read the whole set.

After reading The first book in this trilogy Dance Upon the Air by Nore Roberts, I had to follow up with this to see what happened with Nell and Zack. I love this couple, they are just so damn cute together. I won't spoil the book for others who haven't read the book but I will say that I was pleasantly surprised by the turn Ripley took. All I kept thinking was "it's about time!" Anyway I am starting the third book in this series this week and can't wait to see how it all ties together and what'...more
I am not going to review every Nora Roberts book that I have read in the past because she is quite prolific and it would get redundant and I honestly cannot remember all the plots. I think someone finds someone else attractive but at least one cannot admit it so there is sexual tension, then lots of sex, and then they live happily ever after? Sometimes there is some magic , a family legacy, or a mystery. Certainly not great works of literature (however still 100% better than “the grapes of wrath...more
Another winner from Nora Roberts! The second book in the Three Sisters Island trilogy kept me reading late into the night. I remember greatly enjoying the first book in the series, and this one didn't let me down at all. I think the Three Sisters Island trilogy has to be my favorite of Roberts' series -- or at least of the ones I've read. I was impressed with her characterization. The hero and heroine were well developed, with original quirks and character traits that seemed quite believable to...more

Heaven and Earth centers around Zach's sister, Ripley Todd. Ripley is the town Deputy; she works with her brother the Sheriff. Ripley has magic but refuses to use it after an incident 10 years ago that has left her angry and in denial. When MacAllister Booke shows up, investigating the events surrounding the end of the first book, Ripley is immediately on the defense. Mac is a paranormal investigator, and is attracted to Ripley. Ripley wants nothing to do with his "hoo-doo research", but when th...more
This was a fun book. My favorite part of this book was Mac. My sweet, adorable, extremely sexy Mac. He is the most perfect guy on the planet. His physical description is one of the most perfect in all of the books I have read. The adorable baby can never find matching socks. He gets hurt a lot because he is clumsy. And he is a great kisser and fucker because he did research when he was younger. He is that extremely good looking nerdy guy who you know you just to take the pants off of. I love Mac...more
Ripley Todd has an okay life. Yeah, she's living with her brother and his new wife and, sure, she's having sort of a dry spell with her own sexual escapades and, well, she's a witch which she's not really enjoying but life is still okay. Then MacAllister Brooke comes to Three Sisters Island. Dr. Brooke is there to study the legend of the Three Sisters. He's very interested in mystical forces and UFOs and then becomes very interested in Ripley Todd.

I loved Ripley in this book! I liked Lulu a lot better in this one too, since the last book had Lulu being harsh to Nell, even when she didn't do anything. I wasn't expecting the drama from the last book to carry over into this one, but it makes me wonder if Evan wasn't acting as he did of his own free will. It doesn't really matter in the end, but I do wonder.

In this, the second of NR Three Sisters Island trilogy, we find Ripley, the big bad tough cop, fall for a science geek! A super hot paranormal scientist. He (Mac) comes to the island to meet up with Mia and to research witchcraft, but he doesn't tell the girls that he is related to the original 3 sisters. He has a diary of one of the sisters. He helps Ripley through some tough times, and she goes back to using her magic to help.

I actually liked this book better than the first book in the series. It didn't seem so heavy all the time. This book deals with Ripley Todd and her reluctance to accept her powers. When Dr. MacAllister Booke rents the yellow cottage it changes her life. As much as she doesn't want to like him or accept his paranormal research, she is drawn in and begins to rethink her views. Having just finished Roberts "In Death" series under the pseudonym of J. D. Robb, I found myself thinking of Eve and Roark...more

I picked up this book at the library because I had read the rest of the trilogy, and needed a light and fluffy break from heavier reading. Definitely light. Nora Roberts has a certain style and this weekend I needed something familiar and non-agitating.
I like that this book was different from the other two in that it didn't focus much on actual magic-doing. There was some, but it wasn't the core of the book like for the third one, or the revelation like for the first. It was amusing to see how...more
