This review serves to offer my opinion on the entire trilogy, especially since the three books form one grand story which I had to finish in three days (yes, my sister was appalled). What can I say? I had previously read every single one of L.J. Smith's masterpieces, and I was stoked, so to speak, to find out what this was about. I finished my homework in a rush and curled up in bed with my precious new friends.

The book was just amazing!! It was really good. It was fast like the other books and no dull moment in it. I don't even know where to begin. At the start of the book I was depressed because Gabriel turned to the enemy side. And he did a pretty good job at being an enemy. There were times that I hated him. I knew that he still likes Kaitlyn and he's just suppressing his own emotions because she is already with Rob. But sometimes I could not really see through his pretense. The part where Kaitlyn started to hate him that was the part that I started not to understand him. And then Kaitlyn became troubled with her emotions for Gabriel. That made me restless because I could see that she really cared for Gabriel and while she says that she cares for Rob but somehow it doesn't show that often maybe because Rob seems to be always in control. Nevertheless I really was rooting for Gabriel. There is something about his bad boy-trying-to-be-good demeanor that really makes him irresistible. I was losing hope for Kaitlyn and Gabriel but just then it happened Gabriel told him the he loves her. Oh!! that made my day!! The walls were down and now he was vulnerable and open to Kaitlyn. I got to know him better. And I knew there was hope for them. The book was the most emotional one among the three and I have no complains about it. because although you have that torn between two lovers kind of feel to it, it was not frustrating. Then there was only slight drama to the book a drama that is not suffocating at all; you get carried away but it will not make you frustrated.

Love the book!! I recommend for everyone to read it!!(less)

After Gabriel deflects to the other side, choosing to leave his do-gooder friends for Dr. Zetes' coven of psychic Hot Topic patrons, heroine Kaitlyn Fairchild is left with a choice: to stay with golden boy Rob and hope for some sort of passive resolution to the conflict between these groups; or to chase after Gabriel, infiltrate the Zetes Institute, and destroy the evil crystal that gives them their power herself.

She chooses the latter, of course. One thing I've admired about Smith's young adult novels as a feminist reader is the strength of her heroines. Her girls are never demure damsels-in-distress, but rather women of action. Kaitlyn, for all her beauty (and for all the boys fawn over her), is no exception. In fact, this becomes a plot point, and is a factor in her ultimate romantic choice: she realizes that Rob sees are as someone to be saved, while Gabriel respects her as an individual.

Which isn't to say that Gabriel, or Smith, make this an easy choice for Kaitlyn. Upon her return to the institute, she faces many challenges--she is surrounded by a bunch of sociopaths who resent her sudden intrusion, and one of the evil psychic girls has designs on Gabriel, herself. But Smith is smart enough to let the social conflicts take a backseat to Kaitlyn's two core problems: destroying the crystal (and Zetes, in the process), and finally uniting with Gabriel.

She accomplishes this in one fell swoop. In the novel's (and probably the series') most memorable sequence, Kaitlyn gets her first glimpse of what ultimately becomes of Zetes' pupils--they are transformed into disgusting, incapacitated, slug-like idiots--and she is locked away in a sensory deprivation chamber. The goal is to make Kaitlyn like one of these creatures, a pliant psychic pawn, but her psychic connection to Gabriel saves her.

The passages here, where Gabriel feeds her his own memories to keep her afloat, are reminiscent of Smith's vampire series. But they're far more artfully accomplished, with a darkness underscoring them. Kaitlyn and Gabriel might be soulmates, but there's more than just the "silver thread" of Smith's other couples connecting them--there's genuine pain, both shared and individual, present in their connection, too.

All of this creates a real page-turner, and one not easily forgotten. Unfortunately, the ending that follows is a little too neat. There are innumerable ways in which Smith could have disposed of her villain, but I'm not sure if one that avoids all legal and emotional ramifications for the characters was the best one. And I didn't quite buy all the new couples that were hastily forged by the conclusion so that no one was left out of the love fest. But it's a satisfying ending even if it's not a realistic one, and helps make The Passion a great read.(less)

"Der tödliche Bann" ist der dritte und letzte Band der "Visionen der Nacht"-Trilogie. Die Geschichte knüpft nicht direkt an das Ende vom zweiten Band an, sondern beginnt ein paar Tage später, was jedoch nicht weiter schlimm ist, da genauestens beschrieben wird, was in der Zeit geschehen ist.

Der dritte Band ist noch spannender und aufwühlender als seine Vorgänger. Lisa J. Smith hat es geschafft, dass die Geschichte noch düsterer und verwirrender erscheint, sodass ich so manches Mal in die Irre geführt wurde. Der Verlauf ist zum Teil unvorhersehbar, so muss es bei guten Büchern sein. :)

Mit Bri, Renny, Frost und Schakal Mac lernt man neue Charaktere kennen. Sie sind mir zwar nicht ans Herz gewachsen, aber dennoch waren sie sehr interessant und wichtig für den Verlauf der Geschichte. Sie sind die Nachfolger von Lewis, Anna, Rob und und Kaitlyn im Institut und können nur schwer ihre Kräfte kontrollieren, da sie vom Kristall beeinflusst werden.

Während Anna, Lewis und Rob in diesem Buch in den Hintergrund geraten, hat Kaitlyn ihren großen Auftritt. Als Spionin zeigt sie großen Mut und ihre Kräfte entwickeln sich prächtig. Sie bekommt immer mehr Feingefühl für ihre Gaben und lernt, mit ihnen umzugehen. Ihre Hauptaufgabe ist, den Kristall von Mr. Zetes zu zerstören, gleichzeitig möchte sie aber auch Gabriel retten und ihn wieder auf die helle Seite bringen, obwohl dies nahezu unmöglich erscheint.

Das Ende ist sehr gut gemacht und lässt keinerlei Fragen offen. Auch wenn einiges schief geht und Verluste hinzunehmen sind, wird am Ende doch einigermaßen alles gut. Dennoch gibt es einige Überraschungen! Endlich mal wieder eine Trilogie, die sämtliche Fragen beantwortet und tatsächlich nach dem dritten Band endet. Bravo, Mrs. Smith!

Enttäuschend ist dagegen wieder einmal die Covergestaltung. Während mir das Cover zum zweiten Band noch gefallen hat, so sind die Cover zum ersten und dritten Band der totale Flop. Die Augenfarbe wird nicht einmal während der ganzen Trilogie erwähnt, genauso wie jemand mit dunklen Haaren. Zwar hat Anna dunkle Haare, aber sie ist in dem Buch eher eine weniger wichtige Person, von daher wäre es sinnlos, ihr das Cover von Band 1 und 3 zu widmen.

Insgesamt hat mich die Trilogie sehr begeistert und mir gruselige Lesestunden beschert. Sehr schade, dass man diese großartige Autorin meist nur durch die Vampire Diaries-Reihe kennt. Unbedingt lesen, denn diese Reihe ist wirklich wunderbar!(less)

I’ll start when Rob discovered that Gabriel hurt himself to help Kaitlyn survive that tank. I know that my face while reading is impassive. Even from the first page you knew it would be good.
Gabriel's love for Kaitlyn is strong but he has to move on, She chose who she wanted and that was Rob.
And if she gets in the way, he has to hurt her, even kill her.

I really loved this book. The ending is perfect. Some of it you expect but some of it you don't. At first I though tit would be another vampire novel but it isn't. This is great for any teen to read who really likes fantasy. The book shows some evil, but it just briefly touches it. The book has some tense moments in it. I couldn't put this book down. I found this to be very exciting. LJ Smith has gotten me to read everything she has written. I didn't find a moment of dullness.

Today I found this book at my sister's apartment. I remember when I was in high school and kept a bunch of books in one of my bureau drawers due to lack of shelf space, the three books of this trilogy were often missing and I'd find them in her room. Of course, I can't remember what the books were about now (not even the back summary sparked my memory), but I remembered all the covers very clearly. These books may have been the source of my love for the name Gabriel.
