This book is really about spiritual adulthood and was much less age-specific than I’d anticipated. Coincidentally, Cynthia and I watched the BBC adaptation of All Passion Spent when I was midway through and afterward I kept picturing Wendy Hiller’s wry, sage face as I read about aging well. In fact I have about a dozen pages left but want to savor them rather than rushing along, as I tended to do when I subscribed to Sr. Chittister’s newsletters.

expected more depth after my love for her "Wisdom Distilled from the Daily." Felt a little superficial, with all the neat chapter groupings: regret, fear, ageism, transformation, mystery, tale-telling, religion, freedom ... sometimes as though she is resisting being "religious" and doesn't know where she herself stands. Still, some good observations

Another profound book by one of my absolute favorite spiritual leaders--Sister Joan. The book is a must read for anyone 60 and older!! It is a true blessing and opens one's eyes to wisdom as an elder!

A serious look at making the best of the latter half of life. There is much left to do but must be in a different mind set than the busy years that preceded these. Much wisdom to be imparted in this book.

Do not brood over your past mistakes and failures as this will only fill your mind with grief, regret and depression. as said by Swami Sivananda

Not actually finished, but this is one of those books you dip in and out of, instead of reading front to back. Meditation chapters, basically.

Chittister is one of my favorite devotional authors. This book has short chapters that speak to the experience of growing older and the value of experience and wisdom to society. Again, Joan Chittister speaks with wisdom and insight into the experiences of life. This book would be especially good for people approaching retirement or advanced age.

Somehow given friend's recommendation, I expected something else. Not a lot that was new or newly put. Perhaps I just wasn't in a contemplative mood or perhaps I need to try something else of hers to get a better sense of why she was so highly recommended.

Chittister is based in Benedictine tradition and centering prayer so her perspective resonates. "Memory is not about what went on in the past. It is about what is going on inside of us right this moment." p. 154.
There are 40 short essays on specific topics relating to life past middle age so the book isn't necessarily a start-to-finish read.

I notice that my books are mostly for someone over 60+ while almost all my friends on goodreads are under 30(mostly)
So I hope these titles are relevant to someone.
This book has lovely short essays on the beauty of later years.
