Non chiamatela guida perchè non ci troverete inutili descrizioni dei quadri riprodotti in foto (della serie: che Ofelia stringa in mano dei fiori gialli bianche e rossi lo vedo da me senza doverlo leggerlo!). E' piuttosto un'ottimo manuale di storia dell'arte (davvero ben scritte sono - e non potevano esser altrimenti - le sezioni sulla pittura francese).

Even if I never visit the Louvre, this guide is pretty cool to flip through and just take in the shear amount of historic paintings and sculptures of extremely fine quality. The descriptions of each painting are about a paragraph long, and wow can one learn much about the history of our kind just from reading those.. they wouldn't have that much info about the paintings at the actual louvre I'd wager. This book is a highlight of the various collections at the Louvre. It's divided into sections based on the country of origin and type of artwork. The photos of each work are pretty high quality, and there is text explaining the significance of each group.

This would have been great to have read BEFORE going to the museum, so I could have better appreciated what I was looking at. Still, better late than never!

The museum shop also had available a much more detailed catalog, that must have weighed 2
