Dua hal di atas, pernah terjadi p...more

This book was comic genius. Told from the alternating point of view of a guy and a girl. He's trying to come up with "The Next Big Thing"...as soon as he thinks of what that might be. She's his seemingly crazy neighbor that's trying to figure out what to do with her life.

Lots of current cultural references. Just plain funny and easy to read.

So good! I loved this book. Funny, silly, goofy. Heaven and Brady were perfect loveable characters.
Looking forward to her next novel.

The is Caprice Crane's debut novel and the second of hers that I have read. It's not usual to find great first books and I'm glad to say I liked this one as much as her second book.

Heaven and Brady are next door neighbors. It's dislike at first sight, even though they dislike each other even before they meet for the first time! Heaven works in public relations and she's good at what she does. Unfortunately she has a low bs meter and no sense of personal boundaries. You're eithe...more

Jadi terbaca jelas bahwa ketika mereka diceritakan bertetangga, jadi berj...more

Heaven has lost her job as a PR rep and now a waitress trying to make ends meet and stay happy with her life. Brady just got out of a bad relationship and is struggling trying to make his record label work, and he just moved into next to Heaven. With mis-delivered mail that Heaven takes it upon herself to open for Brady their friendship starts and blossoms into what seems to be a mutual annoyance friendship that grows.

I enjoyed this book. Which seems different from most of the revi...more

I hesitated to even admit that I read this on here. And I had to explain to my daughter why I was reading a book with this title and she isn't allowed to say the word stupid in our house. I don't recommend this to anyone unless their looking for total mind candy. That being said, there are some very funny parts to this book, including this quote,
"yesterday I had a woman ask me what kind of salad dressings we have. I told her we have sesame soy dressing, spicy lime vinaigrette, and ...more

After having a so-so reaction to Caprice Crane's other novel, Forget About It, I was wary of reading this one, but here I am, giving it 5 freaking stars. Color me pleasantly surprised.

The prose switches between the two characters, Heaven and Brady, chapter-by-chapter. I don't normally enjoy this type of format, but Crane makes it work by skipping the doldrum "this is my life" explanation crap and jumping right into the essence of the characters - how they speak. I'm a big...more

I thought this book was funny, but I had to stop reading it halfway through because there was just way too much language! I got tired of reading the F word 10 times every page. A bit excessive. So I did not finish it, but it is pretty obvious from the first chapters what is going to happen anyway so I don't think I am missing much....other than reading the F word another 2000 times.

Stupid and Contagious by Caprice Crane was different from many of the books on this blog. Heaven loses her high paying PR job and ends up as a waitress where she has a hard time not talking back to rude customers. Brady struggles to keep his record label afloat and has just moved to Heaven's apartment building.

The two meet when Heaven brings over Brady's mail which has found itself to her instead. Brady is not impressed with his open mail and Heaven's forward personality. Heaven can ba...more

This book makes me wish we could rate on the half star...I'd give it two and half stars. It was ok for what it is.

I finished this blindingly fast, as is often the case with chick lit books. They’re heavy on conversation- short, quippy/quirky dialogue that’s a breeze to read. At points it was laugh-out-loud funny.

There were two main characters, a guy and a girl. Yeah, you can see where this is going. It’s told in a kinda past/present first-person narrative, usually in alt...more

I liked this book, even if it was a little bit of a mindless indulgence. The humor and character dynamic definitely had enough quirkiness to be considered a little edgy and interesting, without overdoing the zaniness to the point of trying too hard. (Although I had my doubts, at first.)

The further I got into this book, the more fond I started to feel of the main characters, particularly the male character, who I actually thought had a fairly believable male "voice", and who...more

I read this book a few years ago, and I have actually read it about 3 times total. Then I lent it to someone and I have never seen it again. And I miss it desperately! I can't bring myself to buy a new copy because I have so many passages underlined, and tons of my own comments in the margins that to have to start all over makes me sad. (Every time I would re-read I would use a different color ink. This allows me to know when the different yummy bits popped out at me.) I absolutely LOVE LOVE LO...more

What did Franklin Roosevelt and Stalin have in common during their alliance in WWII? Very little. Stupid and Contagious, by Caprice Crane, revolves around the lives of two very different people, giving alternating chapters for both protagonists: twenty-six year old Heaven Albright, a failed PR executive turned embittered waitress, and twenty-nine year old Brady Gilbert, a hopeless independent music producer with a get-rich quick product idea: "Cinnamilk" – a questionable “beverage” th...more

I would say this book was ok. and I had a lot of laughs reading this one. Heaven and Brady? Are just two of the most crazy people I have read and they are meant for each other. They are both hilarious, they are both weird, they both love their music and they are just crazy (didn’t I say that earlier).

First let’s dig into the crazy life of Heaven:
She’s a nuisance (well according to Brady and I definitely agree with him) and the type of person that just gets into your nerves. ...more

I enjoyed the content of this book but not the conversations. Heaven seemed a bit too flighty and she was difficult for me to relate to and I found myself liking Brady more and more throughout the book. It bothered me that I couldn't picture either Heaven or Brady while I was reading. They could make a movie out of this book and I wouldn't be disappointed in who they chose to act out the parts because they were that forgettable.

It might be silly, but one thing that bothered me was whe...more

This was my most recent Gym Book, defined as one which fits perfectly in my Book Caddy [the best invention ever:], in which I don't anticipate having the urge to write notes, and which I can read without having to slow my pace with deep thinking. This book fits the criteria perfectly. It was light and predictable, but funny enough to distract me from my physical endeavors.

Here's the idea -- Heaven and Brady are new next-door neighbors. They hate each other but keep getting thrown into...more

To be frank, Heaven and Brady are brilliant. Their duality is electric and infused with humor. Really, they’re like bread and butter. Or peanut butter and jelly. Separate, they’re equally fantastic, but together they’re amazing.

Crane’s writing is so detailed about the little things, the everyday events that we tend to overlook; she captures these minute details and moments in the most humorous and quirky ways possible, that the normally dull subjects turn alive and become not so bo...more

I admit this is shallow and riddled with enough consumer product references to border on being some kind of ode to commercialism. (Though Gen-Xers are stereotypically shallow, distracted and obsessed with pop-culture) At any rate, it's pretty funny and zany. I like zany and the characters were likable. The title (a lyric from the Nirvana song Smells Like Teen Spirit) is what made me buy this book, which includes a very bizarre yet conveniently placed plot line devoted to Kurt Cobain. I bought th...more

Buku pertama yang ditulis Caprice Crane. Sebenernya mungkin saya kebalik ya bacanya, yang saya baca duluan malah buku keduanya, yang Forget About It. But well, they are two different stories anyway.

Ohmigaud. I have never given a book a one star before...so...I guess thats really saying something. I could not bring myself to even finish this piece of worthless crap. I was so lost since the first chapter, while I was reading it, the book was choppy and I kept getting lost even when I kept on re-reading the pages. The characters were not developed at all, I can't really describe them physically or mentally. In the first few chapters theres some random creeper who starts masturbating in front ...more

Heaven and Brady do not think they were made for each other. If they had their wishes, they would not even live in the same building in NYC. However, it is apparent that fate has other intentions for them. Otherwise would they keep tripping over each other?

There is a lot about music, PR and New York in this book. I don't know much about those subjects, but this book was an introduction for me. It was also great for this 54 year old to see how 20 somethings may perceive the world...more

I really enjoyed this book. It wasn't very deep or profound, but it was highly entertaining and a quick read.
I have to say that about the first 75 pages are kind of slow. However, the number of times I laughed (loudly, in the middle of the night, so that my husband surely thinks I'm crazy now) while reading it made up for the pace.
Brady's character was well-developed and I enjoyed his shortcomings and self-depreciating humor. Heaven was a bit over the top. It sometimes felt like the...more

One of the funniest, quirkiest, twisted book I've read this year. It alternates between a girl and a guy's point-of-view (Heaven and Brady) and it tells us of their lives at that moment. Heaven just got unjustly fired from a PR job and Brady owns a record company but he's really trying to come up with this next great idea. Destiny has it that they both turn out to be neighbors and of course they don't hit it off right away. Brady sees Heaven has his annoying, mail-opening neighbor and Heaven doe...more

Okay, so I admit that this book has a ridiculously stupid title (HOW on earth did they come up with Stupid and Contagious?... and that idiotic arrow???) and the cover makes it look like it's just another trashy contemporary romance novel but in spite of all that this book is SO worth reading!

I read this all in one sitting and laughed out loud at several points throughout the book. The characters are well developed and super likable but still manage to be quirky. I loved the alternate...more

Ugh. This is another book to add to the so-not-into-it-I-didn't-finish-it collection. Which was very disappointing to me because I was at the time, I long-time reader of Caprice's blog/webpage. I found her funny and entertaining in that atomsphere ... but when it came to her first novel? Not so much! I found it boring and it could not hold my interest for more then a page at a time. I attempted to read this book three times, each months (years even?) later trying to giving it a fresh chance....more

“Yesterday I had a woman ask me what kind of salad dressings we have. I told her we have sesame soy dressing, spicy lime vinaigrette, and blue cheese. She made a face and asked, 'Is that all?' 'Yes,' I told her, 'those are all of our dressings.' 'Don't you have any other dressings?' he says. I mean, what the hell? What does she think? That I'm holding out? I was tempted to say, "No, we actually have an entirely different assortment of dressings that I don't tell people about the first time they ask, because they don't deserve these great secret dressings. But now that you have proven your worth, I will show you to the VIP room, where the array of salad dressings will dazzle and delight you.” 28 people liked it
