I read this a while back now so bear with me. I thought this was a mediocre read. The descriptions were very wordy and the story line seemed to go nowhere. The only saving grace for me was that I read it shortly after returning from my honeymoon so it reminded me of the clean beaches and blue waters I had recently left.
Otherwise, I think many of the "escapades" the main character found himself in were not only extremely unrealistic, but not really interesting either. I felt like h...more

I learned that as cloying and irritating as his music can be, Buffet can tell a good story. THe start was a little slow, but it continually referenced on of my favorite songs (by Lyle Lovett), and he nailed expat behavior in central america. I recognized characters from my past in the islands of Honduras, and I really liked it.
Who knew. Then again, the book is about central america and mexico and the carribean and boating...we knew I kinda had to like it...

An impulse borrowing, and I didn't know what to expect. The first part of the tale went a bit too slowly. Then it picked up speed, and read essentially like Forrest Gump, filled with some unlikely fortuitous coincidences that come together to form a surprisingly very readable book. From the guy who sang to us about searching for that lost shaker of salt. Who'd've thunk?

recommends it for:
read before bed or in a hammock
Just started, cant get Costa Rica out of my mind, so every night b-4 bed I escape to this funny ride.
*I have learned we should only read 2 books at a time
1 fiction, b-4 bed to clear mind of resposibilties and 1 non fiction , for improvement, insight, learning.
write that down and live it!

A little too rambling for me. I love the setting. He makes you want to go to Mexico or the Carribean. But his adventures are just too convienent and everybody comes full circle neatly. I don't know if all his books are like this.

It's one long beer tale. Great for mindless reading. I started it a while ago, and just haven't finished it.

This gives a wonderful view into the mind of Jimmy Buffet. You feel his songs in every paragraph. Seamed pretty far-fetched at times. I liked the Caribbean imagery.

The same airy feel as any Buffett book. There is always a good long get to know ya with the charactors, but they are generally charactors you like so no harm in that.

I had to convince myself to buy this book. Turns out it is one of the best stories I've read. It was fun, page-turning, loved it!

If I could have given this one 2.5 stars, I would have. It was just okay for me. Glad I picked it up for free at a book exchange.

A dangerous book for me to read when I read it. I almost went on the road again. A good book and I will probably read it again.

Fun book to read, but really scattered story. It has lots of references to stories from within other books he has written.

There are few things better than sipping a mai tai while reading the words of Jimmy Buffet on the beaches of Aruba.

A little strange in places (what else would you expect from Buffet) but deep down a good story.
