I didn't get a chance to read the book before this one "The Pom-Pom Wars (Sweet Valley High, #113)" but I got the gist of the story in this mini series.

New mean girl Heather arrives in town and outshines Jessica in her own cheerleading team, thus snagging the captain post for herself and kicking out Jess in the process.
