There aren't enough books about this topic, and none are as accessible as this one. I was validated to find that I had already, in my own way, completed some of the suggestions in this book, and happy to find new ideas that I can easily integrate into my healing journey. This book is pleasant to read, free of the heavy psychological theories that make up most self-help books, which makes it a light, short, to-the-point read, which I really appreciate since I'm regularly wading through thicker bo...more
I listened to the audio book and it was very helpful in not becoming so overwhelmed in everyday life. There are many good pointers to help you not be so overwhelmed. If this being from asking for help from a loved one to setting boundaries on what you will put up with in your life. The end of the book is very helpful in making a checklist for you and how to life a wonderful stress free life. I would recommend this to anyone that is having a hard time keeping up with the everyday task of life...more
I'm just getting started with this book, but it's a good sequel (for me) to The Unmistakable Touch of Grace, which I'm just finishing. I'm also involved in an online monthly seminar with Cheryl, going chapter by chapter thru this book. Join us!
Cheryl is one of my two muses at the moment; Jacques Salome is the other. Cheryl is wise and caring, insightful, and truly gifted as a life coach. I highly recommend anything that she has written, as well as her seminars.

As someone who was raised as a people pleaser and put up with epic amounts of abuse from irrational people growing up...I found this book very helpful in sorting out the bullshit found in most relationships. I have been told many times that I'm "too sensitive" and this book reminded me that this is actually a gift and something that should be gaurded and cherished because it has made me the caring person I am today. It offers tools to help remind yourself that you must come first or ...more
My girlfriend, who I borrowed this book from, is totally the person the introduction to the book describes. Not so much me, but there was still some useful information in the book. I especially liked the sections on creating balancing routines, the Absolute No and Absolute Yes lists, creating soul-nourishing space, setting limits on negative influences (people, technology, news) and being an active partner in your own health care.
Overall, this is a good, helpful book for removing stress from your life and taking care of yourself. However, several of her solutions involved 1) hiring a service to cook/clean etc for you, and/or 2) delegate more to your staff etc. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford to hire someone else to do stuff for them, and not everyone is a manager or supervisor at a company. One is supposed to take a year to read it, doing a chapter each month. I didn't do that.
This book is what helped change my life and my way of thinking. I keep it near and dear to me. Because of this book, I have ventured out further and now follow Cheryl Richardson on Facebook. I have put into practice daily affirmations and have begun to even write my own. This book has encouraged me to truly change my life and view the world with a refreshed set of eyes.
I really enjoyed this book! Cheryl Richardson not only gives insight on how to take on a new challenge each month, but gives her own account on how she came to write this book. I would definitely recommend! I even got one as a gift for a friend so she can learn the Art of nurturing herself, as now its her turn. Definitely one to have in your collection.
I truly enjoyed this book. It has come at a time in my life when I need to heed the advice that Richardson offers. I borrowed this book from the library but will be purchasing it to re-read often. I recommend this book to anyone who needs to remember to breathe, step-back and put themself first when life gets tough, enjoy!
A froo-froo, typical self-help, much-needed reminder to give myself a break. Less about bubble baths and pedicures and more about thinking before saying yes to everything, being a martyr/victim and sacrificing your own well-being for the sake of stupid crap ingrained in you by our culture or a flawed upbringing.
I simply love Cheryl Richardson and any time I can take a moment to read some of her very thoughtful advice I do. And one of these days I hope to be as good at taking care of myself as I am of taking care of others!
A quick read, unless you decided to study the tips Richardson has for taking better care of the most important person in your life: YOU! Some of her suggestions include saying "I love you" to your reflection every day, listening to your body's needs (including getting annual health examines, eating healthy, exercising), saying "no" and delegating, and recognizing the persistent complaints that run through our heads about life tell us we need to put some commitments on hold, ...more
When I picked this book up, I expected lists of ideas for taking care of yourself. I was really surprised at the clarity and depth in this little book. Real wisdom in its covers. 3 1/2 stars.
Definitely a few good tidbids, but not overwhelmingly helpful. I didn't like the tone she used...she almost seemed a bit full of herself (like aren't I great because I take care of myself).
Although this seemed well...a little extreme, it is a must read for those who do not know what they need or want because of self sacrificing behaviors.
I use this book as a journal guide for the year.
Each month there is a different topic to help me focus on an area of change in my life.
So far, so good!

I love Cheryl Richardson. This book is a great tool and will continue to refer to this once I've completed the many exercises and reading.
Read this when Oprah was on a Cheryl Richardson kick. It wasn't bad, but I don't remember anything earth-shattering about its contents.

Recommends it for:
the guilt-ridden and the anxious
I don't care if the book is awful, I love the title. What a concept! Who knew?
I wrote recently that we spend the first half of our lives learning that we're NOT the center of the universe and the second half learning that we ARE. This is probably more evident to parents than to nonparents.

A fabulous book for moms, caregivers, or those who have a habit of putting everyone else first.
I actually liked this book. Although it is a lot of New Age stuff, there is the captivating refresher course on taking care of your life. The reminder that we are running our own lives is made clearer through her expectations and tools for becoming aware of that notion. Some nice skills here.
Good advice--especially for Moms!
I loved this book. Each chapter has a different focus for setting up a program for self-care. From dealing with anger (or angry people) to making your home a sacred space.
If you like this book, I also recommend Cheryl's radio program on Hay House Radio.

Every woman should read this!
Loved it!
Just started reading this and already highly recommending to everyone I know who does too much or doesn't know how to decline events, projects, favours without worrying about hurting the other parties feelings. This book came about from the author visiting a life coach who showed her that her "being a good girl" to everyone came at the expense of her happiness. She shows ways of still being "nice" but also being firm about maintaining what you need to be happy.
Great book for self improvement. Month to Month change. Simple and very easey to do if you have the determination. Using it in a book club of self improvement.
Not bad. As I suspected, a bit of a "Greatest Hits" offering from this well known, well published author. Still, I love her reference sections.
This was a great little book. Each chapter talked about one way to be able to help take care of yourself, emotionally and just how to be a better person.
This was a really straight-forward read, full of items I am already aware of re: self-care. However, I am apparently in need of reminding - & this book served that purpose quite well.
