Woolley mamoths, pirates and Bethoven all in the same story? That’s what you get when you travel trough time. Time Hackers is a Science Fiction book about two kids named Dorso and Frank whose computers get hacked and the hackers send the boys back in time. They go on crazy adventures in the past. At any moment, the boys can get sent back in time which problem because they never know when it is going to happen. Never thought Gary Paulsen would disappoint. This is a little time travel, science fiction thing he wrote and I don't like it. I own it, along with several other works by Gary, but only read it today because of three of the sweetest fifth grade girls you would ever want to meet. They all approached me at my desk on Friday at school with concerned looks. Two of them explained that they had both checked out separate copies of the book at our school library on Thursday afternoon. One had alrea More...

The Time Hackers by Gary Paulsen is a very intriguing book. The book is staged in a world where bringing back images from the past is possible. For example, if you wanted to, you could see the Gettysburg Address if you wanted to. The main character of this book is a twelve year-old boy named Dorso. Dorso has a friend named Frank who is always trying to find a way to get around the blocks that prevent you from seeing naked women in the past. Dorso has been getting holograms from dead animals in More...

Author Gary Paulsen does a great job of explaining the science fiction aspect of this book for me, since my aptitude for this genre is pretty weak. Aimed at children 10 and up, The Time Hackers carries the reader through countless historical events, such as the Revolutionary War, the time of the Wooly Mammoth, pirate ships attacks, Cro-Magnon cave paintings, and the Crusades.

Main character, Dorso, and his friend Frank are unwittingly brought into a time-travel game concocted by 2 More...

Quite a departure from the other Gary Paulsen books I've read, but an engaging, quick read. Scientists have discovered how to look into the past, so anyone can view the actual battle at Gettysburg or see what Cleopatra really looked like. Then Dorso (what on earth is up with that name?!?) discovers that it's possible to actually go to the past and change the course of history. (Guess whose fault it is that Beethoven went deaf!)

There is some talk (by 12-year-old boys) about trying More...

The Time Hackers by Gary Paulsen

What would you do if one day you open up your locker and a dead man is hanging in there and disappears a few seconds later? And what would you do if you and your best friend were traveling back and forth in time? Find out what two middle school boys will do in The Time Hackers by Gary Paulsen.

A middle school boy, Dorso opens up his locker and finds a dead body i More...

The Time Hackers, by Gary Paulsen, is a fantastic read that combines such suspense between its very little pages.

Time Hackers is about two boys, Dorso and Fred, who end up finding out that the situation that there in could change the whole world.

This book takes place in the future, so all of the common things we do today are history and a bore in there world. Like TV for example, is watched by no one. Same with writing, everyone writes electronically now on tablet noteboo More...

An extremely short story that was made as a novel. In a way it felt more like a synopsis than the whole story. I found myself wanting to know more about Dorso (and his strange little sister Darling) and his best friend Frank. I also wanted to know more about the "gamesters" and how everything worked.

It was an ok read (fairly quick as it's only 87 pages long!!). I just feel like there was so much that was missing.

This book was a little too fiction for me. It's about a boy named Dorso who gets his laptop fixed but didn't know it had a time travel chip put inside of it.
It causes a lot of chaos with sending things from the past to present [with the smells and everything] and making Dorso and his friend get caught in events in the past [some of which they could've got killed in]. After everything, (stopping the other fools who had stolen chips from their creator to play with time and possibly mess every More...

This is a "youth" book. But there are a few unfortunate PG-13 things that the author threw in that didn't need to be there. It just made it seem stupid. It's too bad, because some of his other books are so fantastic.

THis book was o.k. until the end, when they actually find the time hacker. It was a quick read, but semi-interesting. Gary Paulsen is a good author most of the time!

But did it explain the right info?
Neat book. I thought that it was interesting.

I wonder what made Paulsen write this book. Known for wilderness adventures, this is a sci fi story.

Dorso Clayman, 12, is suddenly the victim of several practical jokes. Holograms appear in his locker and he can SMELL them--worms, deada fish, and dead bodies. The jokes get progressively more extreme, until he is being taken back in time and put into dangerous situations, stuck in the middle of a deadly game being played by a couple of time hackers.

Dorso's friend, Frank, tries to help him catch the time hackers before it is too late. Action is fast-paced, but there is little char More...

This was in interesting take on time travel. The historical details and the actual time travel tended to drag the story a bit, but I guess Paulsen used this vehicle to show the inevitableness of fate and history, and to create a background, tools to help the main character step out of his comfort zone and become engaged in the world. He learned to take a stand and decide what was important enough to him to risk. I can relate to that not wanting to leave your comfort zone. That's probably why I r More...

I would normally not have picked this one up, but I read it to help Chris with his science fiction assignment for children's lit. I just HATE time travel so this one was destined to not be an enjoyable read. Paulsen is so great that it was actually tolerable. Young boys will just love it with all of the gross stuff going on.

Oh, this is hilarious. I like Paulsen's stuff anyway but had never picked this one up. It looked just right for filling in a wait while I was working at the library and I was exactly right. I especially liked the younger sister's persecution of the family cat and how it's described. It's not always the case that tech ages well in books, but this is still fine and communicates what's intended. I'll have to talk this one up more to kids.

The main character gets sent throughout time and witnesses various scenes of world history, all the while trying to figure out why it is happening to him. It sort of reminded me of Jon Scieszka's Time Warp Trio series, but for teens and without so much zaniness. The book is short and easy to read, though not particularly deep, and should appeal to reluctant readers.

Compared to the other Gary Paulsen books I've read such as the Hatchet series, Time Hackers really let me down. An interesting premise of an era when anyone can see any time in history and learn from the primary source, not what someone else interepreted was crippled by poor characters and even worse dialog. I didn't even bother to finish it.

I really didn't like this book. It was really lame. There was like nothing that thrilled me, nothing that inspired me just a few people travling through time. If you like kindof boring books you can read this one. I really did not like it at all. This is the worst book I read so far.
