Midnight's Mask (Forgotten Realms: Erevis Cale, #3)
by
Paul S. Kemp (Goodreads Author)
The shadows deepen in every corner of the Realms.
The sun no longer shines on a man who has embraced the darkness within him.
The day's opposite finds Erevis Cale so far along the path away from his own humanity, he may never again walk as a man.
In the end, to be Chosen by a god like Mask is more curse than blessing...

From Gnoll trackers (TF) and Skullport slavers (DoN) to pirates on the Inner Sea, and Netherese ruins (MM), this third book in the trilogy of Erevis Cale is not lacking in action or suspense by any stretch! A sentient kraken?! Yep. Loved it.
Once again, I will emphasize that Paul does a fantastic job at making your care about his characters (love or hate). In my view, this book got a little more gritty and also re-introduced a love sub plot for Cale - more intere...more

It came down to someone who was willing to do anything including murdering thousands to relive one moment he experienced in his childhood one last time before he died.
It begs the question, who was good and who was bad? The p...more

The epic fight against the Sojourner and his Slaad children is finally in reach! With alliances running amok like a tangled spiders web, and arcane energy being ripped straight from magical sights, the Sojourner is all the while getting closer and closer to his ultimate, and mysterious, goal. Meanwhile, Mask fuels Cale's spirit with more and more secrets, piece by piece, as he slowly loses himself in order to make room for the power to take up the title of 'killer' once again. Full of battles an...more
This final book in the trilogy was really pretty representative of the whole and can be summed up in one word, or perhaps sound: Eh. Kemp is a talented writer, but the plot and storyline in this trilogy was really weak. I seem to recall him foreshadowing what the endgame was for the major antagonist in this series, and when it comes, it's so, so disappointing. There is very little urgency here as we are never really sure how said endgame is going to affect anyone. The protagonists are fighting s...more
