The main characters in the book were Rubin Carter, Lesra Martin, Mae Carter, Lt. Jimmy Williams, and many others. Rubin was a very highly ranked boxing middleweight whom many fans thought to be the next big thing. Then suddenly his life took a change for the worst. This was a great story from two different perspectives of the struggles of being black in America. It is nuanced and sensitive the the realities of life for the characters and being a true story, I found it fascinating. The writing is clear and compelling. I highly recommend this book
