Lacey Sherlock's life is forever changed when her older sister's body is discovered in an abandoned warehouse. She is the fourth victim of the String Killer, the name given by the media to a murderer who leads his victims into a maze with a ball of twine. Seven years after Belinda's death, Lacey, now an FBI agent, is paired up with computer whiz Dillon Savich, who has deve...more

This one's just as awesome and UNPUTDOWNABLE as the first! Coulter drags you right in at the beginning and holds you until the end! Twists that I didn't see coming, especially in finding out who killed Lacey's sister. Just when I thought I for sure had the murderer pegged... and I was soooo wrong! The entire story was action-packed, the suspense enough to make you cringe... the characters each had a personality very much their own, the whole story believable that it could've happened / could hap...more

Lacey Sherlock is a woman with a mission. It's been seven years since a serial killer murdered her half-sister and threw her life into turmoil. And in those seven years, Lacey has managed to get a B.S. in Forensic Science, a master's in Criminal Psychology, and a job at the FBI. So when the "String Killer" strikes again, she's on the first plane to Boston to investigate, regardless of what her boss might have to say about things.

Her boss, who happens to be brilliant, good-...more

I skipped The Cove and went right to The Maze and, based on the reviews so far, I'm glad I did but it only helped me a little. I've tried to read Coulter before with no success and after this I'm not likely to try again. It's not that this book was bad, there were parts that I enjoyed, but it was like a soap opera set in a nuthouse! Everyone was crazy and hardly anything they said or did made any sense to me. I found the plot to be too hard to believe and the resolutions even more so. The romanc...more

Lacey Sherlock may have just finished training to be part of the FBI but she has been on this case every since her sister was murdered 7 years ago. Unknowingly, Dillon Savich played right in to her plans to track down this killer. After seeing her performance at a training excercise, he gave her a option to join his newly created Criminal Apprehension Unit. He's the boss but she seems to have all the answers.

The love story involved in this one is not as hot as it could have been but ...more

The Maze focuses on Dillon Savich who made an appearance in The Cove. Once again, Ms. Coulter has given us a great mystery. While I did have part of the mystery figured out early one, I did no figure out the twist at the end. The chemistry between Dillon and "Sherlock" was great! Although I would think that their HEA was a bit rushed. I also have to wonder at the Bureau chief being OK with them having a relationship when Dillon is Sherlock's boss. But, hey creative license, right...more

I really liked the little we saw of Dillon in the first book, but in this one he didn't come off as good, just weird. Lacey was weird too, which seemed to be the theme of the book for me and it wasn't a good weird. The story was pretty predictable and boring in the middle. But for some reason I had to keep reading. I think the best part of the book was when Miss Lily, Marvin, and the bartender showed up in the story. There parts bring in such funny antics that you can't help but to love the...more

I'm glad I tried the 2nd one in this series! The reader was so much better and there wasn't an annoying overuse of "folk," so I was happy about that. The story was entertaining--there were some areas that I thought were very underdevolped or just happened because that's the way the author wanted the story to go. However, I don't expect a whole lot out of these types of books--I just want to be entertained while I'm driving in the car, so it's easy to overlook. Although, I think this is...more

The plot was okay (for 3/4 of the book, anyway). The characters were decent. The dialogue was distractingly terrible. I felt like I was watching the dress rehearsal for a really awful telenovela. I'm actually shocked this book made it through the publishing house and onto book shelves like this. Also, the technology used by the FBI was surprisingly out of date, even for 1997 (the year the book was published). And the icing on the cake: one of the "hot, fashionable" characters wore a fr...more

I enjoy reading about FBI investigations but this one fell short for me. Dillon Savich is interesting and I would read another book with him, so perhaps I need to go backwards and read The Cove. Lacey Sherlock, however, is maddening. I quit reading the book when I reached the point I couldn't stand her anymore. Dedicating 7 years of your life and going insane (at least in my opinion) with anger, then participating in an FBI manhunt in which you are personally involved? No. Not going to happen.

This book is the second in Catherine Coulter's FBI series. I have been reading them out of order and was very glad to read this one and find out how Savich and Sherlock get together. They seem to be featured in all her other books in this series, except the first one. Savich is in that one, but not Sherlock.
It's an intriguing story, as have been all the others I read in this series. I enjoy trying to figure out the mystery and seeing the romance develop. This is not my favorite in the ser...more

I liked it. I would read more from her. I love a good mystery and although this wasn't fantastic...it was good. It was interesting.

I didn't love it for four reasons: 1) There is no way in the real world that the FBI would ever have accepted Lacey as an agent. They would have figured out her family history during a background check and she never would have passed the psych exam...so it was hard to get past that. 2) I hated the name Lacey Sherlock and I know that sounds really stu...more

I liked it but I didn't love it. The story itself wasn't bad, but Coulter's writing style bugs the mess out of me. Her plot is all over the place and doesn't seem very focused at all. Her dialogue is monstrously terrible and took me out of the story so many times. I wouldn't mind reading more about Savich and Sherlock, but I'm not sure I can sift through another frantic story. It stinks because I am sort of glomming romantic suspense right now, and I wanted to like this one so much. Maybe ...more

I will choose to ignore the negative reviews on this one. This is so far the most interesting of Ms. Coulter's FBI thrillers. The story reveals how Savich and Sherlock (who I really like) met and got married. I like these earlier books more as she puts very little effort to drag in characters from past books, unlike in her subsequent books where we find occasional and often misplaced appearance of characters that appeared in the past. I think this is what contributes to the poorly scripted and ...more

The heroine in The Maze, Lacey Sherlock, becomes an FBI agent to help unravel the mysteries of her own past. Seven years after her sister was brutally slain by a serial killer (the wonderfully creepy "String Killer"), Lacey is assigned to the FBI's Criminal Apprehension Unit (CAU). The CAU, headed by brawny bureau egghead Dillon Savich, uses computer modeling to catch the baddest guys around--it's like profiling, but with databases. Before you know it, Dillon and Lacey are tangling wit...more

Slightly better than THE COVE, but still her dialogue needs help because her characters just like to blather on about things. The plot felt a little weak in spots. She threw so many things at the characters it began to feel unbelievable. Also, the romance seemed very quick and almost forced. Finally, I could have done without the very bad country song lyrics...Dillon should stick to his day job and give up songwriting.

I am liking Catherine Coulter more and more with each book of the FBI series. Seems that Sherlock & Savich and Quinlin and Sally are the heart of this series after the first two books.

The Maze was a wonderful read. As I read, I thought I saw parts of the plot and mystery. What I thought would happen was hidden as I read and kept me on the edge of my seat. I had a hard time putting this book down. It is really hard to imagine that the next book in line can be as good.

I like the FBI series by Catherine Coulter. I do not like her romance series and wont read them, but this FBI series is better. This one is the one that introduces her main characters, Dillon Savich and Lacey Sherlock whom the series follows. But its her novels, "Point Blank" and "Double Take" that I like best. It follows the story of Sheriff Dix Noble and agent Ruth Warnecki (peers of Savich and Sherlock).

This was an interesting, fast-moving story. It had some bad language and some of the plot lines were a bit predictable. I liked it enough to keep reading and to have trouble putting it down at some points. Lots of "damsel in distress" which got a little annoying at times. Bottom line: if you don't mind bad language and typical murder mystery characters, you will probably enjoy this FBI Crime thriller.

I liked the plot of this book and at times it was exciting. I did want to find out what happened at the end. But the dialogue between the characters was awful at times. It was like watching a movie that feels forced or where there's no chemistry between the actors. Or the words were just awkward. I suppose that since this is only the second book in this series, the characters probably grow and maybe the writing grows as well. I'm not sure I will read any more books in this series.

Oh, we are not off to a good start with this one. Melodramatic prologue. Clunky writing in chapter 1, which is only as far as I've gotten. Definitely not as good as The Cove. Maybe Coulter put a lot of effort polishing her first book and eased off a little on her second? Or got a different editor. Also, there's a scene early on where she takes down a "bank robber" in an exercise--but only after he has disarmed her twice with martial arts and stands around waiting to see what she'll do....more

Newly graduated Special Agent Lacey Sherlock has worked hard for 7 years to go after the serial killer who murdered her sister. Special Agent Dillon Savich, Sherlock's boss, works hard to keep her in check while she does it. Very exciting adventure. It keep me up late reading long into the night. A great read!

While I loved the characters and suspense in this novel I didn't like it as much as The Cove. Now I did read it within two days so it kept my interest. The relationship between Savich and Sherlock seemed to be a whirlwind that could have slowed down a lot. Parts were predictable as well. All in all a good read.

Ultimately unsatisfying in its surface level story, stereotypical characters with zero depth and a pat on the head happy ending. I am all for happy endings but I honestly didn't care whether they survived the 'crazed serial killer' or not, so I am not impressed by this one.

Ok, I'm hooked on the series. I really like the characters and I can see a lot of improvement in writing over the first book. Since there are about 15 books in the series I should be a happy camper for a long time. Good plot and nice way to bring Lacey and Savich together. Good mystery/thriller and fun to read.

A mystery and a romance all caught up in this suspense novel. good characters, I think I read a book with the same characters. I read the second book first. both were good. Catherine Coulter knows how to weave a tale, making you wonder all the time "Who done it"

This is the book where Sherlock joins the FBI to catch the guy who killed her sister. She also meets Savich. They guy who she is after kills women after he makes them walk through a maze following a string. Once they reach the center, he kills them, slowly.

This book was suggested by a book dealer. It was exactly like he told me: a very quick read with twists and turns to the very end. You would not know the story until within 20 pages from the end. I could not wait to finish and am hoping this is a series.

I want to read other books by this author but have yet to do so...She writes with humor and has fun, action packed books.

Favorite quote: "You'll do, Agent Sherlock. Hey you're not related to Mohammed Sherlock, that famous Middle Easter sleuth?"

Their first encounter at Hogan's Alley made me laugh so hard I actually got hooked! I knew right then that I would fall in love with Savich and Sherlock. Nary a couple have I met in romance literature that's so endearing, it took everything I had not to start reading the book all over again. ^-^

This is a new author for me.
I listened to it on audio.. and wasn't that thrilled with the actor. That may have affected my choice of the number of stars.
It's a light read. Nothing really heavy or particularly suspenseful.
