This was my favorite series as a kid! I have about 50 of these books, which I recently rediscovered. I particularly remembered this one, so I decided to re-read it. It was actually half-way decent: the writing is passable, and it deals with a pretty heavy issue. Mandy finds out that she has cancer, and all the other Sweet Valley kids cycle through the emotions and questions you have when a friend gets sick. It ends really unrealistically, though, with Mandy getting better by the end of the book. ...more

Odds are good that if you only remembered one SVT book, it was this one: the one where Mandy Miller gets cancer.

I always wondered whatever happened to Mandy. Unlike a lot of SVT characters who didn't really play a big role in SVH but still got mentioned at least as a throwaway, Mandy is never, ever mentioned once they get out of middle school. Which is a shame because clearly she and Lila fought over Jessica's soul and then Lila won. Somehow.

"The Unicorn Club" rears its elitist head in this one. Of course, all of the popular school of Sweet Valley Middle School are its founding members and they pride in its exclusivity.

Mandy Miller, a flower child wants to be part of the club as well. But true to their nature, its current members don't want her in. This proved to be one of those rare stories wherein Jessica stands up to her pals and refuses to go along with their decision. This was, of course, put into a graver test when Jessica le

One of the better ones, I thought. I liked Mandy, and I liked how Jessica didn't bend to the Unicorns' pressure to dump her new friend.
