Jill Rohmer, a convicted child killer with a borderline personality disorder, lures Charlotte Charley Webb, a popular columnist for the Palm Beach Post and single mom, into a web of danger and deceit in this spine-tingler. When Jill invites Charley to collaborate on the true story of what really happened to the three children she was convicted of murdering, Charley at first thinks it sounds like a great idea. Her sister Anne is, after all, a bestselling romance author, so why couldn't Charley ha...more

This is my first Joy Fielding book and after I read it, I ran to the library to get more! She writes romantic suspense with complex, psychologically flawed characters and intricate plots. Charley, single mom, writes a column for her Palm Beach paper. It's a controversial column that mirrors much of her life and she gets alot of hate mail. The mail suddenly turns vicious about the time she receives a proposal from a young woman in prison found guilty of torturing and murdering small children t...more

I REALLY enjoyed this book!
I read a lot of mysteries, and this kept me engrossed and guessing up until the last moment.
The main character is a reporter with the Palm Beach Post, and the emails she receives from the readers of her column are interspersed throughout the book, and were interesting to read.
I highly recommend this to anyone who likes a suspenseful mystery with engaging characters and great writing.

This book is littered with red herrings; many of the characters are presented as the possible villain, so many that it was a tad too much to contemplate. I often think that I’ve read too many mysteries/thrillers because I often correctly guess the culprit. I guessed right here but I wasn’t absolutely certain until Joy Fielding wrote the final reveal. I really enjoyed this book despite its predictability. The characters are interesting and the story is engrossing. Joy Fielding writes well and...more

I just happen to love Joy Fielding. She has the best suspense fiction and I was hooked immediately to the story when I started listening. I was so engrossed by the story that I had forgot that it was a whodunit so it was nearly the end of the book before I realized I needed to try and figure out who did it. It was a quick read for me, and if you enjoy suspense then you will enjoy this book

Charley's Web is the story of a young woman who writes an irreverant newspaper column weekly. Out of the blue a female child murderer on death row writes to her requesting she consider telling her story. Charley steps into a world of lies, deception and evil.
As much as I liked the story, I liked the weekly "columns" even more. The author uses them to reveal the emotional, observational and judgmental aspects of the main character as well as moving the story along. A fun book.

This was a very good read. It maybe let me down a tad at the end of the story, but still I highly recommend it. The main character, Charley, writes a column for the local newspaper, has two children, and a very fractured family of sisters, brother and parents. She has just been asked to write a story of a child killer on death row. In the process, she patches up her family, but not without almost losing her own two kids along the way.

I liked this book and the way it progressed. I don't read a lot of Joy Fielding, but having enjoyed this character as much as I have, I would definetly read her stuff in the future. This book has a lot of rising action, and a couple of nice red herrings to keep you distracted from the evil-doers. It leaves you second guessing yourself, and then exhausted on behalf of the main character when you are done.

I find Joy Fielding's books to be uneven--some are engaging and others are annoying with characters I dislike. This one had lots of twists and turns, but in the end, and while it was intertaining, I was unsure what the motive was for the situation in which Charley found herself. Her earlier books were better: The Other Woman and Kiss Mommy Goodbye were good and Whispers and Lies was excellent.

I'm trying another one. I didn't get through 25 pages of 'Heartstopper.' I'm on page 3, and I'll keep reading... unless it gets really bad. :) I love many of Fielding's earlier books. Some of them were pure genius. I recommend 'Whispers and Lies,' for example. Page 50, I quit. It was like slogging through molasses. Joy, where have you gone with your great suspense novels!?

A little bit of everything leads to a lot of nothing in this book. There's a bit of romance, a bit of mystery, a bit of family drama and a lot of boring, boring boring story. This book reads like someone writing a recipe for a mystery. All the parts are there with little of the flare that makes something special.

Yeah, it's complete mindless popcorn, but it's skillful mindless popcorn. And a very fast read. And even though I thought I'd figured out the villain's identity, I hadn't.

This book was really disappointing! I have always been a big fan of Joy Fielding, but lately I feel like her books have lost something. She used to be able to shock readers with suspense and unexpected twists, but her recent books have sadly been predictable.

I enjoyed this book. I have always enjoyed Joy Fielding except for her last 2 books. But this one was much better. I did have it figured out well before the end. However she throws a twist in & then maybe you don't have it figured out.
A good read for sure.

I wish they had half stars on this... really the book is probably a 3.5 instead of a four.
It was enjoyable and a bit brainless. Sadly it was one of those books that I was able to guess the twist but maybe I've just been reading too much.

This was not one of my favorites from Joy Fielding. Not sure why. Usually love her stuff. I listened to it on a cassette and felt the woman who read it did a lot of shouting instead of reading. Perhaps that is skewing my opinion.

This book is like a roller coaster. A little slow but interesting at the beginning and a WILD ride at the end! I really enjoyed this one- it was a 'can't put down' book!
