This was turned into one of the greatest films I've ever seen, starring Henry Fonda. It's black and white and almost everything takes place within the confines of the jury room, but it's a magnificent film, taken from the script of a great play. It is so brilliantly done that you hardly realize the jury room is the only location you see, that you have to imagine what the crime scene is like from the descriptions given by the characters. A master work.

Very suspenseful play. Characterizations were fantastic.
I'm amused by one of the reviews calling it "dated" as it is "dated" to the 1950's, based on an actual experience of the writer. And who ever said anything about their being all white? Maybe they were in the movie version, but I'm absolutely positive that if this were staged today, it would have a mixed cast.

I read this book in my English class, and it wasn't the best, but it showed an amazing jury discusion. It has a turning point, for the better or worse. There's a movie I watched in class that was good, but I like the book better. The version I read was a play, and we acted some parts out. It wasn't fantasy or Jane Austen, but it had a good message.

Eh, it's famous and all, so I read it. But I don't feel that my life has been changed in any way. Which is odd, because I just love character studies. Hmmm... Whatev. It was kinda dullsville.
But you should read the Goodreads discussion. Now that is some riveting stuff...

is there a play more dated than one featuring 12 white males on one jury? in a somewhat related story, this was the first play i ever read through during my drama class. and yes, i went to a mostly white, all boys high school.

Utterly dated, simplistic in its dramaturgy and in its politics, and yet still totally charming. It was a great starting book for my dramatic literature class this year, both approachable and theaterical.

Read this in ninth-grade English class, but you can't beat the movie with Henry Fonda.
