‘Nuther great book. She’s on a roll.
Ms. Higgs sets Mixed Signals in the radio industry, one with which she’s intimately familiar, being a radio personality herself. Her comfort with the broadcasting environment (there’s even a glossary of jargon at the beginning of the book) is as evident as her comfort with the genre. And that’s really comfortable.
This one is going to be difficult to summarize for two reasons:
First, I would like to fuss over our heroine, Belle O’Brien, but I’m still nursing a c...more

I was expecting Francine Rivers. I got Dee Henderson.
For the most part, I enjoyed the book. The dialogue was good, the plot was pretty good (though it was infallibly predictable), the characters...they were good, and the Christian message was, if not inspiring, at least wholesome and on track.
But Dee Henderson is not Francine Rivers and Liz Curtis Higgs isn't either. Their fiction is upper-end for Christian authors because they keep the characters real, but they still can't avoid cliches and o...more

Young Women and up
Mixed Signals, which is Higgs first fiction novel, is an endearing book full of romance, heartbreak, humor, and suspense. As I read this book, I felt like I lived in Abingdon, Virginia, next door to Norah and Belle, and experienced all their ups and downs of their relationships with each other and the guys in their lives! Higgs does I great job of weaving together the plot and bringing several unexpected turns into the story. The faithfulness of God's grace is a steady factor throughout the book...more
It was a sweet story of 2 couples that finally got together. Because of misunderstandings, they could'nt seem to make a connection. The part that I found most endearing, is the relationship with the Lord. Belle, who back slidded but had come to trust and see her need, David, who was rejected most of his youth, with the Lord's help, coming to know forgiviness, redemption and grace. Patrick who thru others came to know the Lord in a geniune way. This story honed in on a dependance on the Lord whic...more
A review from my old blog...
I absolutely adore Ms. Higgs Scottish series. In all honesty I cannot get enough of those characters and love her writing style. I've never read anything else of hers before and I was not disappointed in this book.
Ms. Higgs drew me in to the lives of her characters: the main character and the other secondary characters. Even though I had accidentally read a few sentences from the last couple pages and knew how things ended up I wanted to know how Belle would get there...more

Great read! Belle is a radio personality that meets her heart throb but they keep getting their signals crossed. This is a story about timing and how sometimes it works in our favor and other times we're at odds. Perfect book to take my mind off the maddening STAAR test! Thank you, Liz Curtis Higgs, for a book with classy romance! The characters put God first and even though they have ups and downs their faith never waivers!

Sometimes I just like to read a book for a diversion, and this book did the trick for that. As with most trade paperbacks, I found myself in tension. The part of me that likes a story, any story, kept turning pages. The book lover in me that wants a book to sweep me off my feet and become a fond memory wasn't quite satisfied by this read.
This is a fun book I've enjoyed enough to read a few times. A female radio dj is displaced when her station is turned into a sports radio station. She gets an offer to come work for her former boss, who she just happens to have a crush on. He doesn't know it. But, are they the right people for each other? Find out when you read this book.
It was a sweet romance with some humor thrown in it. The Christian angle wasn't overplayed, although the author seemed to think nonChristians despise Christians instead of being tolerant. I sometimes wanted to throttle the main characters for being both obtuse and obstinate. But it was a decent story.
I really love most of this author's books, but this book I just couldn't get into. I was halfway through and realized I really didn't care about what happened to the characters. I made myself finish it just to say I finished it, but I didn't take anything positive away from this book. I think it was one of her first books and I could tell.
