Unless people have stopped reading poetry after 1970, this is an odd collection of poetry - most of it was written in the first half of the 20th century. Also, a large part of the selection is nature based poetry, which is fine if that is what you are looking for.

My personal taste in poetry is more geared towards the human condition. Of course this is the point of most poetry, even that describing the natural world, but n

Griff Rhys Jones himself admits this selection is surprisingly conservative, and it certainly contains a disappointing volume of stodge - it often seems more Victorian than modern. Most of the poets here were dead before the twentieth century ended. However, it served my purpose which was to fill some gaps in my knowledge of well-known poetry.
