Wish I could give this book 3.5 stars. It's just not a 4 for me. It was just a little too "perfect", and a little too serialized. Maybe I would like this author better if I just read her series as one long Dickensian-like epic?
The thing I love about Kingsbury is her characters. They are not all good, not all one sided. They have hopes and dreams and ideals and sometimes they fall short of their own ideals.

SUNRISE by Karen Kingsbury is the first in the SUNRISE series, but the eleventh book that follows the Baxter family. With each book, we get to trail along as the Baxter family continues to live and grow. SUNRISE follows Katy and Dayne as they solidify their relationship and look towards their happily-ever-after. But I can’t help but feel the next book in the series, SUMMER, is going to have the per verbal other shoe drop. Karen Kingsbury doesn’t usually allow her characters to be happy or free f...more
It was okay, though I personally perfer other books by Karen Kingsbury. It felt too much like a bridging book to be the beginning of a series, because the reality was that it comes at the tail-end of another series featuring the same characters. While I could see the merit in this, particularly as the characters are so loveable, it was a bit tricky for me as I had read very few of her earlier books featuring these particular characters. This meant that for the first half I was trying to catch up...more
This was a nice romance and interesting about a celebrity wedding. I listened to the abridged audio tape. So, I don't know if I missed some important parts, but it all just seemed a little too perfect. There is something to be said for that, if you enjoy a nice light romance, as many do, but for me, I kept waiting for something to happen - for the paparazzi to catch up and give 'em a chase, or something more to go wrong with the alcoholic players, or any incident to add an action scene. This is...more
As with all of Karen's books in this series, this one had me, once again, living right there in Bloomington along with the Baxters.
And yes, the book definitely made me cry. A lot.
Ashley's problems (don't want to give away any plot lines here!) at first had me hesitant to read this book, and it took a bit longer to get started on it. It was well worth it, however, and I really enjoyed it.

this book was awesome i loved this story about katy and dayne matthews getting married toward the end of the story. In the other parts of the story i read about coach flanigan and his football team who had went to a party and he had called their parents to pick them up because he didnt want the guys on the team driving home drunk and maybe end up causing a bad accident and end up causing innocent people to get killed all because of someone drinking alcohol and i liked the part about where everyo...more
I really enjoyed this book. It held my interest and made me want to keep reading forever. It is the story of two different Christian families and the tangled web of life. It was nice to see how they turned to their Heavenly Father for comfort, support and guidance. I am going back to the library to get the rest of the series. The only bad part is I didn't realize this was the third series for these characters. So if you are interested start with Redemption. The good news is all the books can sta...more
This is my first Karen Kingsbury book and I would have enjoyed this book more I think if I had read the others before it.
I have discovered that it is part of a series, it is Book 1 of Series 3 of the Baxters. There seemed to be a lot missing when reading the story and I now know why the bits are missing because they were spoken about in a previous book.
There are a lot of people in this book but the main characters are Dayne Matthews and Katy Hart who are planning their wedding.

This isn't usually the kind of book I would read to myself. I am Christian, but novels where it is constantly portrayed on every page usually don't appeal to me. But, this was a book in my grandmother's favorite series and as she got sick, she could no longer read for herself, so I read it to her. Sadly, I had only 10% of the book to go before she passed away.

This is a story about the new season in the Baxter family. John and Elaine are planning a wedding and selling the house where John shared his life with his wife Elizabeth before she passed away. Ashley is pregnant again after the death of her baby girl. Katy and Dayne are starting CKT again after they both decide to take a break from the glaring Hollywood lights. Everything is going well except for Luke and his wife Regan. They are facing divorce and not sure what to do about it. So far i like i...more
There isn't much of a climax to this story, so if you're looking for an exciting adventure, you might want to pick up another book. I really enjoyed this novel because I liked reading about people with my faith going through everyday struggles and seeing how they handle it. Baileys experience with Bryan was something I felt with absolute certainty could have happened to me at her age. The characters are all different; they have their stories, their hurts, and their faults, but they all have Chri...more
I haven't read the prequels to this story so maybe I wasn't invested in the characters as much as I should have been. I found this story a little cheesy. I am a Christian so I do like religious fiction but finding so many family members who are this "good", wholesome, and well meaning is so rare that I felt it would have been better if she toned it down a little. The story was nice but it felt like a middle book, one that has to happen but doesn't have much going on. It was just alright to me. M...more
I have a great deal of ambivalence about Karen Kingsbury books. Generally I find the stories soap-operaish, juvenile, and often contrived and unrealistic. Often I find the characters immature and get disgusted when 30-ish Christians respond emotionally and hurtfully to a contrived difficulty with the maturity of a 13-year old. They do way too much emotional reacting and not enough pro-active thinking--most Christians in my life are way more mature and spiritually-grounded than that. However, whe...more

I like the suspense of what is going to happen but I do not like that there are three stories going on at one time. I kept getting confused about who was who and where everyone fit into the story. I like that we can see into the life of how a movie star might feel. This book is very preachy so that kind of gets to me but since the author puts in scripture it also makes me think about my life and how to use the scripture in my life.
Too much of the book spent reminding the reader of things that happened in her previous series with these same people which was enough to make me wonder if I should read them. Becomes predictable as events always seemed to occur as they should because they prayed. Not much drama in the story as Dayne and Katy make plans for a perfect wedding which makes you realize it is not easy when you are famous.
The Baxter family is a group of people with many individual each with their own problem. Some are full a faith and some are struggling with their faith. Karen Kingsbury is able to bring these families together and help them work through their problems. In this story there is a wedding to plan, helpfully without the paparazzi in the mix. John Baxter is beginning to see the promise of a future after the death of his wife Elizabeth and is moving on with his friendship with Elaine. How will the fami...more
This was a fun read (actually I listened to it on CD). It's a Christian based book about several families that I found uplifted. It's not intense or a stay up all night to find out what happens next book but it was a light read that encouraged me to look at some other points of view. I did get a good idea for incorporating Christ more into Christmas that I really enjoyed and hope I can use this year!
When I was given this book, I did not realize it was from the Christian literature genre. The story is obviously one of a series about several families. In this volume, two of the key characters Dayne, a movie actor, and Katy, a woman involved in amateur theater, are getting married. While I'm sure this genre appeals to many, I find that the "message" keeps intruding on the story.
This was an okay book. I listened to the Book on CD.. and it was a good story but generally not the type of book I like to read. It was interesting to think about the type of work that those in the public eye have to go through to have a normal life including such an important thing as planning a wedding. I liked the characters but didn't like the voice of the narrator that much.
first book in the new baxter series, leaves off with the last book, katy and dayne being the main characters, along with their family members, with a little bit more of serious stories from secondary characters, which probably means later they will have their own series. as always this book carried with it a message, this particular book was about the dangers of teenage drinking. good book!
I enjoyed the Redemption series very much, and felt it was complete in itself. I just can't bring myself to care about Dayne and Katy the way I invested in the original Baxter family. I picked this volume up solely for the Bailey/Cody storyline, and that's all I read (in preperation for the Bailey Flanigan series). I enjoyed those characters and their budding romance very much.
I enjoyed this book but must warn people who start it that you need to read the Redemption series first. I started with this book and was confused at first about who was a Baxter and who was a Flanigan. It is a good book but I wish I had actually read Dayne & Katy's love story in the previous series rather than going straight to their upcoming wedding day. Karen always writes such great novels. I'm looking forward to reading more about the Baxter and Flanigan clan!
This is my first christian novel read, and i loved it! Its great to read a chick-lit novel that has all the morals and values that you strive for as a christian. There was nothing to make me uncomfortable, nothing to make me cringe, just everyday struggles that we deal with. I loved it and look forward to reading more Karen Kingsbury novels in the future.
Love Karen Kingsbury! Everything she writes touches my heart. There's always love and family issues that need resolution. God is always the center of that resolution. She has a way of sharing scripture that brings it to a new light for me. I just plain feel good when I read her books. They are an easy read...a curl up in your favorite chair and just enjoy!
Absolutely wonderful book! It was my first read from Karen Kingsbury, and I am looking so forward to many more! The magic of love, life, and relationships come to life on her pages, making you feel as if she's writing about you and your neighbors. While some of the storyline was foreign to me (there is a famous movie star character, which I obviously cannot relate to in real life), I was drawn in, compelled to continue reading, disappointed when I had to put the book down. My only other comment...more
This book received many great reviews, but I just could not get into the story. I can appreciate the author's desire to let everyone know that they are a god-fearing, god-loving person who wants to share the message with everyone. The culture of this book however, is just not my style of appreciating the Savior and I couldn't get past the second chapter.

First time to read a Karen Kingsbury Book and I fell in love with her. She is just so simple and really impacts my walk with God and my Family, after reading her I tend to work real hard at doing more things with my family as well as reinforcing how important it is to me to keep our home Christ Centered
Personally I think this book was a little too picture perfect.. Nothing bad really ever happens there isn't much of a plot twist at all. I've started realizing in that a lot of Karens books are predictable which I don't enjoy, I like when stories are unexpected . Overall an okay book. It ties in well with all the other books in the series.
