Another fabulous audiobook of Sarah Orne Jewett's short stories narrated by the incomparable Flo Gibson. Set in Jewett's beloved Maine, these stories were written in the 1880's and preserve a way of life long gone but oh so delightful to escape to. Most of the stories deal with the friendships and relationships between women as they go about their daily lives and rituals. Audiobook...............This is a collection of precious gems, short stories which illuminate the character of the classic New England elderly lady. Ever concerned about her image within her community, avoiding growing old, facing death, and keenly observing those around her. The stories fit a stereotype which may well have been fairly accurate in its day, and some of which may still hold true. Jewett writes superbly and has a subtle touch in her caricatures. Very nice.
