I've enjoyed Stephanie Bond's books before, but I couldn't get into this one at all. There is a fine line between funny and stupid. The characters are just plain stupid. I'd prefer more realistic characters some with a little common sense. The book is more formula romance than mystery. Carlotta's identity has been stolen and the person who stole it ends up dead.

I'm still trying to decide if I love this series or not. There are things about the books I don't like but so far, the positives have out-weighed the negatives. I've ordered the next four in the series so I should have an answer to that question soon enough.
In this the second in the series, Carlotta is the victim of identity theft, but after the person who stole her identity winds up dead she finds herself living in a very cramped townhouse with the Detective she hates when she isn't lusting af...more

This book starts exactly at the moment the first, Body Movers, leaves off with a phone call from her errant, bail-jumping father. Carlotta drops the phone and through a series of unfortunate incidents is unable to take the call. Her life becomes more complicated as her identity is stolen and her double winds up dead.

The description written above is not for book 2, but book 3. Don't know how that error got through. In the second installment, we pick up right where the first left off. Carlotta Wren has just solved the previous murders when she gets a call from her father...whom she hasn't spoken to in 10 years. Discombobulated and shocked, she drops her phone and breaks it. Keeping the call a secret from her brother and hunky cop, Jack Terry, she becomes distracted. So distracted that she can't remember if sh...more
I liked this book better than the first, but am still annoyed by some things. First off, Wesley, he just keeps making one stupid move after another. I realize he is a kid, but he is supposed to have a genius IQ, too bad he doesn’t use it. The second thing that bothers me is the way that Carlotta changes her mind about all the men flitting about her. It seems like if she is with one of them, that is the one that she has decided is right for her, but changes her mind once another enters her presen...more
The fun never stops for Carlotta Wren. In Body Movers #2 Wesley, (her brother), continues to have gambling problems and adds to the already massive debt that he owes to the loan sharks. Both he and his sister become targets of the gangsters who are threatening bodily harm if the debts are not paid. Carlotta's nonexistent love live has now turned into a list of potential suiters who want to date her. Which will she choose? Even Wesley develops passionate feelings for a real hottie ... but who it...more
This book was so great!!!!! I love this series, so funny! Stephanie Bond writes this book so good, you can't put it down!!!! I have read 2 other books in this series, and I love each one! Carlotta Wren and her brother Wesley have been left by their parents when Wesley was just 9 years old, and Carlotta was 18. She had to be sister and parent to her young brother! Wesley is now 19, and works for Cooper Craft, a guy who works in his uncle's funeral home. Coop and Wesley also go on calls to pick up...more
I read books 1 & 2 of this series and was shocked myself that I liked the books. This is not a spooky or serious read. They are fun, light hearted, quick, and engaging in my humble opinion.
I have sought out the rest of the series to read. The only negative is the detailed sex scenes are not for me, but I know many readers like this aspect of the books. You don't miss anything in the story if you skip a few paragraphs of the sex scenes, if you are like me.

Two words (well, three if you don't count the hyphenated words as one): Addicting train-wreck. I think I used "train-wreck" in my review of Stephanie Bond's first novel in the "Body Movers" series...and this one is no different. (Yeesh!) But this book is even MORE train-wreckish...in a good yet cringeful way. I'm more invested in the characters this time around and I find myself being totally sucked into Carlotta's misadventures. Looking forward with trepidation to see what happens next. Three-a...more
I have this as a cozy mystery, but since the "cozy" means no sex, that label does not really apply. Romantic Suspense is to heavy for this series. So, I guess this is a cozy mystery w/sex. If you have not read book 1, stop and do so before you continue. These books build on each other, when one ends the other picks up only days later. In fact, it would probably be best read as a continous read, if possible. Brother and sister, Carlotta and Wesley were abandoned 10 years ago by parents on the run...more
Carlotta is one lady who can't keep herself out of trouble. Her brother, Wesley, is one messed up dude. Gambling, loan sharks, drinking, computer fraud. The list just goes on and on. Carlotta finds herself mixed up in murders, both as a suspect and a potential victim which she feels it necessary to solve. She has three men chasing her - her ex-fiance, her brother's boss (Cooper) and the cop set on capturing her fugitive father. And if that's not enough, she has a double who has stolen her identi...more
3.75 stars
POV: 3rd person: Carlotta, Wesley
Sensuality: Warm (one explicit, lots of innuendo)
Mystery/Suspense: Average
This is the second in the Body Movers series about Carlotta and Wesley Wren. Carlotta has 3 potential love interests: ex-boyfriend and first love Peter, hot and annoying detective Jack, and cute and creepy Cooper. She's also feeling a little out of her element. She thinks her father called her, but she can't be sure because she broke her cell phone, her credit is taking even more...more

#2 Body Movers series - mystery/romance
07/10 Rereading for the fun of it!
#2 in the Carlotta Wren "sexy mystery" series that's tops on my list of series reading :-)
Carlotta Wren's life is a mess. Her father & mother skipped bail on investment fraud charges 10 years ago, leaving her to raise her then 9 year old brother Wesley. Now Wesley's bright mind is sidetracked by his gambling addiction, which has led to trouble with loan sharks and the law.

I'm not sure why I keep listening to the series. Perhaps it's the candy corn effect - the candy I don't really like, but still find myself nibbling, particularly after picking up the first.
Apparently men find women who are prickly, secretive, fashionistas, and in debt beyond comprehension to be irresistible. There's Peter, her rich, first love; Jack, the detective who is trying to apprehend her father; and Cooper, the former ME-turned-body-mover who is turning out to be a man of many talents -...more

If you're looking to read a fun mystery...then this IS the series for you! I have finally found an author my niece and I can share!! So get the rest of the books out Brandy, I want to borrow them!!! I want to back track and read the first one now...I have to read that one before I go further with this series. These books are fun and the quickest read I've ever read! If you are looking for some serious CSI type stuff...forget it...but if you want to just sit back, relax and read an entertaining b...more
The storyline is actually much better this time. It's got a lot of depth and everything is well-rounded including the characters. It's also a fast-paced read so you'll finish it in no time. This book actually managed to hold my attention! But by the end, I wasn't too interested as the person behind the identity theft ring is revealed because it was sort of bland and 2D. Nonetheless, there's a lot of action you can't miss out and I kinda recommend it! It was absorbing but not overly so. It was an...more
I have to preface this review with writing that I listenend to this on audio and I'm not sure if it was the narrators voice or the story, but this felt like a big, long, downer the whole time I listened to it. Carlotta's life is just abismal, and most of the people in her life just stink. Maybe if I had read this as a book I wouldn't feel the same, but as of now I have no interest in reading anymore in this series.
This is a fun series, and I'm really starting to connect with the characters and care about them. She uses a lot of the same phrases over and over again though. This one picked up right where the first one left off. There were some sexier moments in this book. Wesley gets into a lot of trouble, as usual. Carlotta has a lot to think about, that's for sure! It also had a Stephanie Plum moment at the Elton John concert. Too funny!
Not sure what to expect from this book, just picked it up at the library in CD to listen on a road trip. Wish I would have had the first one to start with, but I enjoyed it. I'm a huge mystery book fan so it fit that like, not a romance reader, but luckily there was only one scene of sexualness which was enough for me. I plan to read the rest of the series.
I started out this book thinking I wasn't going to be able to relate to it's main character, Carlotta. She was an ex-rich girl with knowledge of name brands and I thought she was going to be shallow, but she surprised me. It was a cute, chick-lit mystery, with never a dull moment! I am going to go back and read the first in the series along with the one(s?) since this one. Fun book!
I enjoyed the romance between Carlotta and her three men but the mystery end was a little lacking. The mystery picked up towards the end of the book but I felt it was a little too late. It was a light-hearted book, a good beach, vacation, summer book that you can enjoy but if you are looking for more of a mystery you will be dissapointed.

Carlotta is dead! No she's not, but she has to pretend to try and lure her parents out of hiding. Not only that she has 3 willing suitors and she is totally confused about them all. She chooses one, but he doesn't choose her, then she accepts the one who has chosen her, yet she is still attracted to the 3rd. Very confusing and totally like her character.
Carlotta is back, along with her funky Goth best friend Hannah, genuius brother Wesley, contrite ex-fiancee Peter, sexy Detective Jack, and intriguing body mover, Coop. Her parents are still at large and her father's guilt is still in question.
This is a fun read for those who will recognize the Atlanta landmarks sprinkled into the plot (in that sense it reminds me of the wonderful Kathy Hogan Trochek's Callahan Garrity series) and for those who enjoyed Bond's first book, The Body Movers. 2 Bodi...more
