Roxanne works with an underground group to help get battered and abused women away from the abuser. Her troubles start when Detective Capistrano comes around looking for Melissa Cape, one of the women Roxanne has helped.
Capistrano wants Melissa to testify against her husband. Roxanne will not give him the information.
Things seem to go from bad to worse when she loses her job, her apartment is trashed and she is left a cryptic message that has her wondering who did it.

Out of all of the books I've read by Ms Bond, "Got Your Number" has the least likable characters than any of her other books.
One cousin is jilted at the alter and that would be Angora (?) the other cousin Roxann is a woman on a mission. A mission to save battered women and their children from husbands that have not lost their visiting privileges. Although they are from the same family they are as dissimilar as salt water and chocolate milk. Angora from a life of privilege and Roxann from a life...more

This is the first Stephanie Bond book I've read and maybe that's a good thing since those who read this after reading other works of hers didn't like this book.
I really liked "Got Your Number" and while I had to fill in some gaps on my own (which sometimes happens in a chick-lit mystery), I found it well written. I enjoyed the characters. It was a bit predictable in the romance department, but there were enough things that I didn't see coming in the mystery aspect to counteract that. I think th...more

This is not a book I would have walked in to a bookstore hoping to purchase. This is a book I might have picked up at the library when I'd read through my first priority books. That being said, the only reason I read this was because it was being offered for free in the kindle-owners' lending library and I was desperate for something to read. I'm glad I read it though.

Stephanie Bond has created two good heroines with Roxxan and Angora. Follow their adventures across the country. From Angora's high society wedding, were the groom announced to all he was still in love with his old girlfriend, to their college homecoming where they come face to face with the professor the both were in love with. Along the way they try to avoid a very persistent Detective and a violent PI, in search of his ex who testimony could get him locked up.
I listened to this on unabridged audio and thought it was a pretty enjoyable read. Not too dark and heavy and the characters were likable and interesting enough to hold my attention. It has a Stephanie Plum-like feel to it but it's a little more closer to reality than the Evanovich books. It has some nicely done but not over the top humor, a bit of romance and a mystery plot that kept me guessing. Definitely one one of the better books I've read this year.
Roxann Beadleman reluctantly agrees to accompany her jilted cousin, Angora Ryder, to a reunion at their alma mater in South Bend, Indiana. When they arrive, neither woman is prepared for the feelings they both still harbor over an old professor-and he certainly remembers Roxanne. Hot on their trail, Detective Joe Capistrano is deparately trying to protect Roxanne from a deranged criminal who may also be following the two women. When a murder occurs on campus, both women are swept into the middle...more
Actually 2.5 (Goodreads would you PLEASE add the ability to use half stars? Pretty please??) Anyway, this is one of Ms. Bond's earlier books that I got free from Pixel of Ink. It isn't her best work, but it was cute and moved along pretty well. I did have some trouble with one of the characters being named Angora (really, she is!), but I have to say that I did NOT figure out what the big secret between Angora and Roxann was.
2.5 stars. The plot was fairly engaging, if slightly predictable. The book was labeled as a "humorous romantic mystery" but I didn't think it was funny. The characters were pretty flat, and the "romance" between Roxann and Capistrano had no chemistry.
I downloaded the book for free, and you get what you pay for, I guess! I have one more Bond book, so I'll give her another chance to impress me.

Considering how much I love everything else I've read from Stephanie Bond, I was surprised at how much I didn't enjoy this one. The first half felt more chic-lit than comedy, romance or mystery. All the girlie road-trip memory-lane bonding with her cousin got old after a while. It took a Long time to get going, for there to be any mystery developments, and for the hero to get any page time. There were some times near the end when I did feel a draw to the hero, but mostly I didn't care for his ch...more
I have really enjoyed the Stephanie Bond books that I have gotten for free on kindle. This is a full length novel that I admit is a bit weird in the plot structure, but overall enjoyable. I loved how the author got me thinking that Angora may be a mastermind pretending to be an airhead. I do think that the ending was a bit too happily ever after though. Overall I really enjoyed this book.
I believe this is one of Stephanie Bond's earliest novels and it shows. In this book she is yet to develop the formula with which she writes the utterly irresistible novels of her latter career (e.g. the 'Body Movers' series). Because I'm a huge fan and I know her other work is sensational, I'm going to let this one slide. I can't pinpoint what it is exatly that didn't work in 'Got Your Number' - it just didn't do it for me. Onward and upward!

This book was good... In the end. But it dragged for what seemed like forever in the beginning. It didn't really get good till probably 60% to 70% through the book. This book probably could've been 200 pages as opposed to almost 400. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy the book, it was just not as addictive as some of Stephanie Bonds other books. The last chunk of the book was good with the murders and twists and turns. And a short peek of a new relationship starting. In the end it was a happy ending...more
