Overall Rating: A++
Synopsis: A psychological/supernatural thriller created by writer Tsugumi Ohba and illustrator Takeshi Obata, Death Note follows a high school student, Light Yagami, who discovers the notebook of a shinigami that allows him to kill anyone by writing the victim's name while picturing his or her face. Light's goal is to create and lead a world cleansed of evil using the book, but where is the line between an honorable goal, and mass murder?
The note book has a series of instructions written by the shinigami, Ryuk, who owned the book, and holding the book allows Light to see Ryuk. After confirming that the book works, Light begins a killing spree, wiping out all of the major criminals whose identities are televised. Soon, this attracts the attention of the International Police Organization, and a mysterious detective known only as "L".
Through a stunt that kills a man sentenced to death in prison, L learns that "Kira" (the name the public gives to the mysterious killer of criminals), is located in Japan. L then quickly begins working to determine who Kira is. Light realizes that he must kill L, and it's a race to determine who will survive. ...more

The story gets trippier, really, as the author explorer even more intricate implications of having a deathnote. In this volume, a girl with her own deathnote tries to seduce Kira, and starts indiscriminately killing people to get his attention. One of the better entries in the series.

It's not like there's anything new happening at this point, is there? L thinks Light might be Kira, Light is Kira but has a brilliantly convoluted plan to convince L that he's not Kira, Light's father spends a lot of time wearing suits and looking shocked, so on and so forth.

anyone who likes Boondock Saints movie, they have a lot of similar themes
I love this series - the more I read it the more I find it has in comon with the movie the Boondock Saints. I'm interested to see what happens in next as the end of this volume seems like a good ending place, however there are still 8 volumes more!

I was so drawn in by the psychological drama and new developments in this one that I finished it during my lunch hour and immediately checked out the next two in the series. Can't wait until the anime and live action movie are released at Netflix!

This volume had a lot more characterization, especially surrounding L, and I really enjoyed the introduction of Misa. I'm really liking the direction this series is going, and just how complex the relationships are getting!

Light and L's phychological duels just get more intense, and then as second "Kira" throws off everyone's plans . . . if you've liked the series so far, it just keeps gathering steam.
